A thin layer of pvc cement works well too, and would be a more permanent solution.

#170837 Weird Barrel Issue

Posted by serpent sniper on 20 August 2008 - 12:19 AM in General Nerf

It could just be that your darts are too small for your barrel.

I had an AT2k that I was running with a crayola and pvc setup for stock micros. Most of the time it shot like a beast, but regularly, a dart would become folded over in the pvc.

Look for a barrel material that allows the smallest amount of space around the darts.

This is my second commissioned piece, which was done for a friend of mine. He wanted black and red, which presented me with a challenge. The way I paint gives colors a lot of depth, which would look weird next to completely flat black. I tried to give the black some depth too, and am fairly pleased how it came out.

Next I have my quad B, which I call the trident. I did Slug's mod, except I used the reducer from a plusbow that I had lying around. Standard ranges with the CPVC barrel. The gun's namesake attachment has crayolas inside the pvc. Shoots 3 stock darts about 60' @ 15 pumps.

#171298 Worst Gun Ever P2

Posted by serpent sniper on 21 August 2008 - 03:46 PM in General Nerf

Let me understand this...

Since OMC and Forsaken posted in the topic before it was locked, that gives you the idea that it would be a good thing to make a clone topic of one that was deemed by the administrators to be a waste of bandwidth?

We'll see where this gets you.

#171319 Gmail Users Read

Posted by serpent sniper on 21 August 2008 - 04:52 PM in Off Topic

Thanks for the heads up with the security issues.

OMC, awesome addon. The theme is very similar to my firefox skin, and my IM client's skin. Everything is nice and unified.

More google related thread hijacking:

Anyone else use digsby? It's a cool IM client that can do a lot of stuff. It combines all of your IM services, and can alert you if you get emails or messages on a social networking site. I use it and like it a lot. It keeps me from compulsively checking my gmail accounts and facebook.

It has a couple downsides though, no AIM chatroom support (yet at least) and doesn't work with just any email address. So far they support Gmail, AOL, IMAP, and POP accounts. I can't make it check my campus email (which opens in a web version of outlook), but I'm no email expert.

Just thought I'd share.

#171546 The Chimera (titan Rifle)

Posted by serpent sniper on 22 August 2008 - 01:42 PM in Modifications

Nice, I've been wondering about these since they got so much buzz in the Apoc thread.

Looks a little hard to pump. The breach is cool, I think it would be a beast with shotgun shells too.

#171710 Blaster Identification Tool

Posted by serpent sniper on 23 August 2008 - 02:03 AM in General Nerf

You might think about putting the airtech jet squadron under the "glider" ammo type as well. The original darts it came with had adjustable wings and fins.

This is very cool though.

#171823 The Chilibow

Posted by serpent sniper on 23 August 2008 - 05:17 PM in Modifications

Nice.

I'm glad you were able to get a barrel on the 750 with it being cut down as much as it was.

As for the plunger head, why not search for a new o-ring?

I just had my fall break, so I finally had a chance to work on some more guns.

The first two are for a zombie-themed party. I did these for a friend who is going as a zombie hunter.

The wrist strap coming out of the sawed off's handle doubles as the cocking mechanism. If anyone is not familiar with the innards of a double shot, the stock contains a pulley system that cocks the gun when you open it. This had to be scrapped so that I could saw the stock off. The wrist strap is made of paracord, which also covers the grip. It's good and durable for the force thats put on it while cocking, and I thought that it gave it a paramilitary feel that goes well with zombie outbreak weapons.

This next gun was done for another friend's birthday. He wanted me to do something related to politics, and he is the most ardent supporter of the democratic party that I know.

#186317 Lancer: A Product Of Kappa Sigma Armory

Posted by serpent sniper on 29 October 2008 - 07:22 PM in Modifications

This is really a hell of a job.

I especially like the bits around the magazine, and the work you've done on the stock area. She looks spot on. The logo is also pretty kick ass. I like the fact that it isn't another copy of Forsaken's. You've made your own unique monster.

This makes me want to get to work on my own lancer. I've been intending on making one, just never got around to it. I don't think I have the bondo skills to come near what you've done here.

#200128 Xbox Live Recreational Community House ---

Posted by serpent sniper on 31 December 2008 - 11:09 PM in Off Topic

Tag: ErraticBullet

Games:

Gears 2 (when I feel like dealing with the appalling match-making system)
COD4
Halo 3 (seldom)
Forza 2 (very seldom, I love the game, I'm just not as good as other drivers)

offline games:
Fallout (amazing)
Castle Crashers (worth the price if you've got a few friends for co-op)

Really I don't play on live that much. My floor-mates are all very into system-link gears games, so that's where I get my fill of multiplayer.

#200447 Oh My God Mcdonalds.

Posted by serpent sniper on 02 January 2009 - 02:38 AM in Off Topic

This is a Failtopic. But just to make it less fail, I want to know if anyone knows if McDonalds at some point offered nerf guns as part of their happy meals.

No, but Sonic did have SSPB knock-offs maybe 5 years ago.

#200760 '08 Highlights

Posted by serpent sniper on 03 January 2009 - 01:29 AM in General Nerf

Eh, I guess I'll chip in.

Pros:

-Many awesome contributors to the Haven (Angel, Slug, Rork, Hereticorp, many others)
-Being more active on the forums
-Making money by painting guns
-Getting a +bow
-Getting an increasing number of people involved with nerf at school

Cons:

-+bow falling apart on me
-Residence Life cracking down on nerf in the dorms
-Not being able to make it to any NIC-sanctioned wars (MN and Canada beckon me)

#201000 Vulcan Gears Of War Paintjob

Posted by serpent sniper on 04 January 2009 - 03:35 AM in General Nerf

Boom - Are you serious? You haven't seen Delish's Dead Space gun, or his Warhammer Pistol, apparently.

Anyways, cool gun. You've added wear in all the right places though, looks very Gearsy. I like the milsurp ammo box, but I dunno how I feel about the rest of the OD on the gun. Personally, I would do some additional drybrushing, not to add wear, but to highlight some areas using a darker metallic color. Maybe drybrush on some of the more dynamic surfaces to break up the monotony and make it pop.

Very cool dude.

I really like your paintjobs because they combine excellent detailing while still remaining within a "nerf -y" color pallet. I think that you've found a good medium where you have guns that a person can take seriously, while still looking like nerf guns.

Props to you sir.

#212437 Dizzy's Painting Method

Posted by serpent sniper on 15 February 2009 - 02:02 PM in Modifications

I don't mean anything bad by this but, did you base this off of a nite finder that I did? It's the same colors.

Don't take that the wrong way. The gun looks very nice. You should really try some inks in your paint jobs, I think that you would use them well and could make your work even more impressive.

#219882 Pointblank Titan

Posted by serpent sniper on 25 March 2009 - 11:57 PM in Modifications

I accually just made that one up to be perfectly honest.

We can tell.

ON TOPIC:

PointBlank, what means did you use to connect the pump to the tubing? I'd like to replace the pump on my titan and am worried about making an airtight seal.

If it's not a hassle, pics would be much appreciated.

Nice work though. I'm excited to see the paint.

#231992 My First Attempt To Paint/mod Nerf

Slick stuff. Personally, I would have sanded more than just the Nerf logos off. What brand of paint did you use for the brush work?

I'd just like to point out that it seems you've permanently inscribed your gun with the phrase "In Memorandum."

You mean "in memoriam."

Seems like a nice mod though.

#244434 Oshkosh, By Gosh!

Posted by serpent sniper on 28 July 2009 - 09:52 PM in Off Topic

Uh, I live here, does that count? This is the week that I don't leave my house unless I have to. It seems like half of the people at EAA drive or fly there only to head straight to Walmart and spend the whole week there.

Are they gonna have anything cool this year? They'd better live up to the F22. That was pretty badass to see flying over my house. The main attraction isn't seriously some lame ass Airbus, is it? 'Cause I don't feel like listening to that for a week.

#244616 Oshkosh, By Gosh!

Posted by serpent sniper on 29 July 2009 - 08:03 PM in Off Topic

Yeah, actually this year doesn't seem as bad as years past in general. They've made improvements to the campgrounds, so I think less people are feeling a need to spend the day driving around town. Those dorms must suck though.

I forgot to say this before, but I can't imagine the flight you made. That's gotta be pretty draining.

#282117 Amazing Paint Job - How Can I Learn This?

Posted by serpent sniper on 04 August 2010 - 03:39 PM in Modifications

gmoff - I got your PM. You don't have an email address listed on your profile, otherwise I would have emailed you the video.

Anyways, my video won't really help you achieve a look like that gun. As Aj pointed out, that gun is mostly drybrushed and my guns have a different style. I do briefly demonstrate how I use inks, so if you still want it I can email you.

The basic process for a gun like that, or at least how I would do it would be like this:

Black basecoat
Drybrush colors from dark to light
Blending ink (so in this case a red ink was used to blend everything)
Ink for grime effect (something black, brown, chestnut, maybe more than one)
Drybrush edges with light color
Seal

That's more or less how I do any of my guns, I just do a textured stippling technique instead of drybrush the whole thing.

#282142 Amazing Paint Job - How Can I Learn This?

Posted by serpent sniper on 04 August 2010 - 08:09 PM in Modifications

Yes, I think the main coat was all drybrushed.

Drybrushing is used on the raised bits, but if you do the same technique to a flat area, you leave a thin coat of paint. It gives it that blurred or soft look that the gun you posted has, and allows you to mix the tones as you add more layers.

I use a big flat brush with soft bristles for drybrushing. There's no trick to drybrushing a flat part. You might want less paint of the brush than if you were doing corners, but you just keep brushing it until it starts picking up color.
