#75835 Rof Question

Posted by m15399 on 11 March 2006 - 03:23 PM in General Nerf

Example:

Night finder. You stick a dart in the barrel, pull the plunger back, and fire. That cycle takes 2-3 seconds depending how fast you are. Then 20-30 RPM (rounds per minute) would be the rate of fire.

Rounds per minute is kind of misleading. If you have a Maverick/Firefly, you can do 2 shots in a second if you are fast. That would mean 120 RPM. However, you have to reload the clip every 6/8 shots, so you would only be able to get maybe 50 shots in a minute max.

Alternatively, you can say "1 shot per x seconds".

The FAR has a magazine for a nerf gun...

Try ompa's clip mod.

#73466 Semi-automatic Homemade Valve

Has it been done? Yes
It's a slightly different design than Zero's.

#75902 Spring Strength

Posted by m15399 on 12 March 2006 - 01:15 PM in Homemades

Well, think about how much you can pull, how much PVC can handle, and how far you are going to pull it back. I wouldn't go much above 20 lbs because of the PVC.

#77078 Making A Homemade

Posted by m15399 on 20 March 2006 - 09:57 PM in Homemades

It goes into a tank that holds the air pressure. You use a pump that takes in air from the outside world, and pushes it into a peice of pipe. That peice of pipe is called the pressure chamber. The more air you have, the more it pushes against the sides of the pipe. That means when there is an opening (ball valve), the air is able to break free and rush out the valve.

Edit: you beat me

You're pumping into a holding tank (bladder)

There are VERY FEW homemades that use a bladder. Most just use a solid tank.

#82782 Trigger System

Posted by m15399 on 05 June 2006 - 01:21 PM in Homemades

I assume it's spring powered, since you refered to the BS-4. I would recommend the clothespin trigger made by Carbon. I have one sitting 6 inches away from my left hand, but haven't been able to make a nerf gun to go with it.

#73274 Bbb At Tru Sale!

I saw some BBB's at TRU, but they were $30. That was a few weeks ago, though.

#80314 Fast And Cheap Remote Controlled Car Or Plane?

Not a plane... $30 is the lowest price for a RC air plane and it won't go that fast.

#83249 Valve Questions

Posted by m15399 on 14 June 2006 - 03:38 PM in Homemades

Ball valves can mess up accuracy, but the main reason they are extremely erotic is that you lose a lot of range when you use them. Since ball valves open so slow, the dart is out of the barrel before you've turned it 1/4 on. The smaller internal diameter, the less air can go pass, the less range you get. It is important that a valve opens extremely fast to increase the air flow at the beginning of the shot.

Good luck on your FAR!

By the way, building a far is NOT jumping on the bandwagon.

#75234 Design Programs

Mostely just single shot guns.

If you need CAD to design single shot guns...

I usually make drawings on sticky notes in school (he he) and then make neater paint drawings. I might use GIMP to illustrate an article, but I haven't had the opportunity to do so, since I haven't written any articles since I learned GIMP.

#75183 Design Programs

Posted by m15399 on 04 March 2006 - 08:48 PM in Off Topic

^But it doesn't look nearly as cool.

I draw most of my designs in Paint, just because it's quick. When I'm doing a quality drawing, I use GIMP, which is like Photoshop only its free (not quite as good, but it works really well). I've drawn some pretty awesome designs for stuff without using CAD.

#77962 Switching Gears A Bit...

Posted by m15399 on 28 March 2006 - 08:43 PM in Homemades

NO. WAY. No where near 80. The strongest tubing I've seen on the internet was rated for 35. I'm guessing more like 20. They are not rated for garden hose pressure exactly. The garden hose fills them up, but then a check valve opens to keep it from exploding.

So why is the pump connected to the little PC? If it was connected to the big one, you could be repumping it as you are mingling about so that you won't run out of air. I would recommend using a pressure gauge to keep from going over a certain PSI.

#77989 Switching Gears A Bit...

Posted by m15399 on 28 March 2006 - 10:37 PM in Homemades

The tubing is from a SC Power Pak, as he said. Do a google search. He was talking about the pressure rating for that tubing, not the ball valve.

#78067 Switching Gears A Bit...

Posted by m15399 on 29 March 2006 - 06:05 PM in Homemades

I was only looking at Latex Rubber Tubing, so there might be some other expandable piping with better pressure ratings.

I'm not too sure where the check valve (or OPR) is. I assume there is one, because I've never heard of a super soaker that didn't have one. Of course, I may be wrong. Was there a warning in the instructions about not overfilling it?

#79169 A Question Regarding Sprinkler Valves

Posted by m15399 on 08 April 2006 - 04:35 PM in Homemades

If you want multiple shots, use the ball valve homemade in the homemades section of the site for reference on how to do this. Do not rely on how fast you can close the valve. If you want something even better, then you might want to consider building a semi auto valve. It will be more work, but it will have better results.

#73659 Hot Pursuit!?

I believe semi tires use the same pressure. Not that anyone cares now...

#73635 Hot Pursuit!?

Tires only have around 30 PSI in them, so you may want to just use a bike pump.

#82864 Huge Air Tank

Posted by m15399 on 06 June 2006 - 06:57 PM in Homemades

What would it take...?
Some PVC, an endcap, and at least one other fitting, depending on what you're connecting it to.

Puggy, this is in the homemades section. He wants to know how to make a HOMEMADE tank. *sigh* B)

#82939 Huge Air Tank

#77408 Pvc Question

They do sell HUGE PVC, but it can be up to $120 for a 10 ft tube.

Do you mean a paper magazine?

#77873 Stefan Break-through

Posted by m15399 on 27 March 2006 - 11:01 PM in Modifications

Breakthrough = No.
Breakthrough means you found a way to outshoot a normal stefan by 15 feet or something of equal significance. Have you made stefans before? I highly doubt these shoot much further than those. The weight is way too light, so I see no reason for them to do so. A loose fit is probably a bad thing.

If you can provide concrete evidence that these shoot further than normal stefans, by all means, I am willing to believe you.

#75809 Signature

Posted by m15399 on 11 March 2006 - 12:23 AM in Site Feedback

It makes me slightly angry when I see quotes in signatures because most of them make fun of someone who said something by accident. e.g. "I was putting rubber bands on the cock" (of some gun or other, not meant to be quoted like that). I don't remember who said that, but someone who I won't mention saw it as hilariously funny and put it in their sig.

#73637 Semi-automatic Homemade Valve

Posted by m15399 on 19 February 2006 - 11:21 PM in Homemades

The PC (the part in the GUN) supplies power to the barrel. The air tank (probably in a backpack) refills the PC after each shot.

#73553 Semi-automatic Homemade Valve

Hope you don't mind me posting these Dr. Nerf.

Those don't appear to be semi-auto, but the only difference would be an extra set of o-rings to keep the air in the tank (hooked up to the bottom pipe) from coming out the barrel (only the air from the PC should come out).

#73467 Semi-automatic Homemade Valve

Sorry, Dr. Nerf, didn't see you posted in this topic...
For future reference, you don't need to start two topics on the same thing Spider.

Yes. Look near the faucet repair.

#71766 Revolver Magazine

Posted by m15399 on 27 January 2006 - 06:25 PM in Homemades

Do the rounds (forgive the term) just sit in front of the barrel, or is there something to push them into a coupler or something? If they just sit there, you're going to lose a lot of air from leakage, decreasing your range.

#73780 Non-manual Loading

Posted by m15399 on 21 February 2006 - 01:48 PM in Homemades

Personally, I liked the first R clip better. I think the best clips are gravity fed, open top (so you can drop stefans in while in combat), shell-less (they're a real pain), and easy to construct with a minimum amount of materials. I like the ones that don't use brass, since brass is more expensive than PVC, and much less versitile.

More kinds of systems:
Rotating bolt (I believe that's what they're called)
Blowback to advance clip
Trigger to advance clip (as seen in the Maverick/Firefly)
For full auto, you can use two spinning wheels that propel the dart
Live action trigger (Razorbeast)
Motorized

There are many more, but most are variations of clip styles with some form of the above.

#73785 Non-manual Loading

Don't forget an air powered system (rf20)

That's kind of like trigger/blowback except it uses pressurized air.

#77214 Planning Assistance

Posted by m15399 on 22 March 2006 - 12:57 PM in Homemades

I'm no expert on this, but as long as the disks have a good grip on the stefans, it should work. How are you going to do the barrel setup? If you have the disks spinning inside the barrel (two slots in the side that the disks sit in), then I have no idea. Probably around 6"-12". Spinning disks don't have a lot of power, so don't expect to get anything above 30 ft. Maybe if you got a kickass motor...

#70440 New Dart Design

How much does the ribbon affect range?

#70490 New Dart Design

7th graders are usually about half 12, half 13.

Hunter, It would be nice if you read everyone's posts and replied to their questions (hint: Mine).

#77153 Want To Make A Homeade

Posted by m15399 on 21 March 2006 - 08:56 PM in Homemades

Carbon's trigger would be the easiest.

Simple idea: SNAP 1, or KISS gun.

Ya, you would need shells to have a clip for stock darts. Shells are not exactly easy to work with and create an ejection system for, so I would just make some stefans (just as hard and get better results).

#81372 Another Noob Question For All The Older Guys

Full-auto with nerf requires motorization of one form or another.

Wrong.

If you wanted full auto without priming, then you're right.

#81357 Darts To Big.

Posted by m15399 on 06 May 2006 - 01:02 PM in Homemades

Takes too much time to reload. Unless you can come up with a good clip for it.

Not to add to the off topicness, but I doubt that's the reason because it would be pretty easy to make a clip or turret for one (just use large shells).

Yellow, try sanding the PVC into a cone where you stick the darts in.
