#299801 PumpSnap writeup.

Posted by Y-Brik on 13 June 2011 - 04:13 PM in Homemades

You never showed what your plunger rod ended up looking like, is it just a piece of CPVC with a huge slot in it for the priming bar? Wouldn't Nylon rob but much more sturdy?

I don't know about Rob, but nylon rod would definitely be sturdier--have fun carving a slot through it though. Also, since (common) nylon rod has a 1/8" smaller OD than CPVC, there's very little room for error. CPVC has been used in the past and I haven't heard of it failing on anybody, and it's much easier to make

tl;dr- nylon is stronger but it's not worth it. He likely used CPVC.

#289556 Pumpsnap A La Rork

I forgot to mention my Snap also uses a wood dowel plunger rod (It's 5/8" Oak from Home Depot- there was 2 types of wood, I opted for the heavier one). Works great but be good to it- use a long-ish wood screw (1"+ into the wood), as well as a deep fit on the priming handle- I bored out the tee so the dowel slid in further before adding my screw. Gotta say, I like this better than cpvc for the plunger rod- no fighting with that endcap on the plunger head.

Get a 1" PVC endcap, lop off the part that connects to the pipe (so you have a flat-ish surface), and use that. It's way simple yo, and more durable-Yay PVC!

#302616 Pump action U Channel blaster

Posted by Y-Brik on 01 August 2011 - 11:14 AM in Homemades

With the advent of the simpler and sturdier RBP and RCP, I don't understand why we're using a more complex and less sturdy method to achieve pump action.

#286152 Pull-back To Pump-action Conversion - Snap

Posted by Y-Brik on 27 September 2010 - 05:17 PM in Homemades

Thanks durka.

I'm a little perplexed over the apparent lack of interest in this, especially from the more experienced SNAP builders, but whatever.

Maybe they don't like wood.

Naah, that's an east coast thing. I do like this setup, just waiting to see it come to fruition. Oh and Fome, all your shit is so BA it intimidates the rest of us. We're used to plastic, not so much woodcrafting.

#303008 Project: SPARK

Posted by Y-Brik on 08 August 2011 - 02:35 PM in Modifications

4. If you made a HUGE diameter homemade pump and replaced the old one, I think pumping wouldn't be some much of a challenge. I'd use 1 1/2" to 2" pvc, then use Venom's plunger head design. I integrated that onto a SNAP, and it had an almost perfect seal with a little teflon tape on it. The entire gun was retired because the trigger didn't work.

Have fun bringing such a large diameter pump up to pressure- remember pressure is measured in pounds per square inch- to work a greater diamerter pump up to the same PSI you need to pump MUCH harder. That said, a Schraeder valve on the hard tank and an upright bike pump in the staging area may be worth exploring.

#282448 Possibly The Simplest Way To Make A Homemade Wye

Posted by Y-Brik on 08 August 2010 - 12:12 AM in Homemades

I've done the same thing with a miter box (tip: stand the tee up vertically when sawing off the 3rd leg- it keeps everything centered best.) and a 45-degree fitting solvent welded together. This setup is fantastic as it's actually cheaper than the base price of a wye (sans shipping), and can be made into other sizes as needed. ALso, I'm finding my wyes work with streamlines, something I understand the Flex versions do not do. Excuse me, I'm off to try to make a 1-piece Chopper fitting.

#294750 Pistol Splat Spring Replacement

A whole 0' so far- he said in the post that his tests were dry-fired, and do you see a barrel anywhere?

#294793 Pistol Splat Spring Replacement

Posted by Y-Brik on 20 February 2011 - 09:08 PM in Modifications

I don't know, the nut looks elegant enough to me. I always hated a stack of more than 3 washers as spacers for anything- always a pain to keep together. Using a nut means Venom has a 1-piece spring rest, not a spring rest and several washers.

#308331 Pimp Your JOLT - Share Your Tips

Posted by Y-Brik on 16 December 2011 - 01:18 AM in Modifications

Sorry for the n00b question but, does anyone know if a Jolt can handle a [k26]?
I've read that an ace #62 will destroy it but I don't know if a [k26] will.

As I recall, a [k26] will not fit. The included spring is already surprisingly strong, chances are decent a Jolt could handle a spring of that strength.

#300756 New Nerf Guns

Posted by Y-Brik on 29 June 2011 - 03:03 PM in News

Why does everyone think that these guns are going to use a familiar plunger or reverse plunger setup? How, exactly, would you propel AND put sufficient spin on a disc by blowing a bunch of compressed air at it from behind? I would be very surprised to see plungers in these blasters, and find it far more likely that it's a new propulsion system.

I'm a little bit bummed that we aren't going to see any new N-Strike guns this year, and that the stupid orange re-releases are of a bunch of blasters that nobody cares about. How many versions of the crappiest Nerf gun (Maverick) do we really need? Is that blaster really that popular, especially after the Spectre came out? Of all three retailer exclusive guns, the one that got a nod from Nerf is the battery-powered Barricade? And the Raider, really? Not the Long Strike?

I'm just hoping this isn't going to make the actually good blasters hard to find.

Agreed with your thoughts on propulsion, though Nerf has been known to, well, nerf their own designs ever since they came across their lovechild Recon design. I take issue with your view of the Nstrike lineup. The Maverick is consistently Nerf's best selling blaster, at a reasonable price point, cool functionality, and general reliability among stock blasters (It IS a piece of shit from a modders' perspective)- it's earned its 2 repaints a year. The spectre is an overengineered Mav- the less ammo capacity and increased price make it a far cry from the Mav's replacement. As for the LSk, if you really want one, there's one in the works for this year (I won't say too mich for fear of ruining the 'suprise'). And Raiders are one of my favorite ReClones, that and the Recon itself.
/end pointless rant about child's toys.
/begin more relevant rant about companies' promises to this community.
@Hasbro- you released this info on the Facebook page ages ago! Why just now let us know? If Hasbro can't keep up its send of supplying new information to the community, I fail to see why we're holding back from speculation threads (such fun little shitstorms those) and reporting the news when it crops up on the net instead of waiting an extra 2 months for a piss-poor release given secondhand!
Well, that's enough ranting. The disc-shooters look cool after all....

#288365 New Nerf Gun

Posted by Y-Brik on 13 November 2010 - 05:30 PM in News

Wasn't NH told that we would be the first place to debut nerf news, even before fb? what happened there? We're living up to our end of the deal as far as Im seeing, am I wrong?
Oh yeah, and cool blaster for a flywheel gun.
EDIT: I can't read- the email says we plan on posting this on fb later today. nevermind.

#309630 Nerf Vulcan

Posted by Y-Brik on 17 January 2012 - 10:40 AM in General Nerf

I really can't wait anymore to get this big fat gun out of the box but until I got confirmation that my model of the Vulcan is not inferior to any existing model I won't open the box.......

1. Where did you hear these claims? If it's anything like the umpteen other guns with several generations (LS, Recon, NF), then the range and power difference is something like a foot or less (read-no difference).
2. You have a stock Vulcan and you're afraid of inferior blasters....yeah.
3. Your link is not loading. If it's a picture, upload it to a photo sharing site and embed it with the appropriate tags.

tl/dr: This is a non-issue: play with your toy! If you see major issues, you can consider modding it or, you know, getting a nerf gun that's actually reliable and powerful.

#290737 Nerf Style Grenade Launcher?

so i was watching icarly and in the titles theres a clip of video with sam holding a a orange mgl it looks like thisgrenade pic can anyone identify it? I've looked in the blaster identification pinned topic and can't find it.

You saw that on Icarly?

Dude, there's a pretty descriptive youtube link that shows it in the show. Oh, and to all of you who have survived this long without having heard of iCarly, I envy you.

#307054 Nerf Quick-16 Mod

Posted by Y-Brik on 06 November 2011 - 09:27 PM in Modifications

I know but not really

The springs are extremely similar, but as I recall the PT is a hair thicker- I could fit a Louie-made RFSG spring on but barely, and ultimately had to put the original back in.

#286171 Nerf Modification Spring Sizes

Posted by Y-Brik on 27 September 2010 - 08:38 PM in Modifications

I'm 90% sure McMaster ships worldwide, so there's your primary source. Cannibalizing other objecs (Nerf or not) is another option, but here's the kicker- go to a few local hardware stores, look in the aisles with all the screws, washers, and other metal doodads, and see if there are springs there!

#296582 Nerf Dart Tag Speedload 6

Posted by Y-Brik on 25 March 2011 - 03:18 PM in Modifications

Ugh.... can't stand these guns. Barely better than a recon. Good job on the mod though.

But it's a recon with spring replacement potential (even if stock LS springs aren't that much of a boost- it's a start!). I'll be the moron who asks about ranges....

#292319 Nerf Dart Tag Quick 16

Posted by Y-Brik on 06 January 2011 - 12:32 AM in General Nerf

My Raider just dropped a few notches on the totem pole...
I absolutely love this new clip system- high ROF, we get taggers back, and you dont need to yank a clunky mag out of your blaster to reload (or, worse, haul a million of said clunky mags to keep reload times as low as possible). I'm 100% sure BOTH blasters are REVERSE PLUNGERS (big suprise), but I dont care. The Q16 is going to be the ultimate contender in indoor wars to date.

Ok, you just made flywheel guns cool to me. Excellent conversion, this blaster is gorgeous with a mag in. Is accuracy Ok wit flywheels lobbing streamlines?

#305791 Need help locating where I can get a spring for the Bullet Guard for t

Posted by Y-Brik on 12 October 2011 - 08:50 PM in Modifications

Ace #2 or 3 should be good. Take the dart tooth in and test fit, then cut it to the right size.

Ace # 2 is WAY too strong!
Gut a clicky pen, try to find a fatter pen so the spring is larger, then shave down the '+' under the dart tooth until it fits.
Also, firing bullets out of a Nerf gun never works. Everything here is made to shoot darts.

#289594 Nano Belt Blaster

Excellent work fixing up a blaster with little seen potential!
Is there any reason you used thinwall PETG (Airgun fit) instead of medium/thickwall (Springer fit)?

@Zack the Mack- Now I suddenly want a barrel break...
My new indoor primary:

BBB spring addition, brass stub in barrel, locks and other junk removed, krylon fusion PJ with rather sloppily applied detailing. Paired with an AT drum, prpbably the only reason to get an AT imo.

#295686 Mobile Version

Posted by Y-Brik on 09 March 2011 - 07:40 PM in Site Feedback

I have an idea, would it be possible to make a mobile version of the site? I use my phone and my iPod a lot to browse the forums, and this would make it relatively easier. I'm probably not the only one who feels that it is kind of difficult to view the site on mobile devices. Just a thought.

There's already an option to view in lo-res, perfect for mobile browsing. Making a system to handle mobile browsing on a site this large, with admins (as I understand) more interested in nerf than in HTML/Java/whatever from scratch is ridiculous.

Oh, and iPod sucks.

#288893 Making An Aftermarket Mod Match The Stock Color

Posted by Y-Brik on 25 November 2010 - 01:52 PM in Modifications

From what I've seen, its far easier to just repaint the entire blaster in a similar color (eliminates color matching). Oh, and if you're spraypainting, get some krylon fusion.

#283173 Make Your Own Wye

Posted by Y-Brik on 14 August 2010 - 11:19 PM in Homemades

Props for creativity, but if you just join the far-right 45 to the tee, you have a wye with a direct airflow. Works fantastically with PVC cement!

#291476 Ls Bolt,stuck

Posted by Y-Brik on 25 December 2010 - 02:08 AM in Modifications

Pictures are nice, as are more specific descriptions of what's wrong (and like Phree said- what state is the blaster in). Are you saying the LS won't catch when you pull the priming handle all the way back?

#291523 Ls Bolt,stuck

Posted by Y-Brik on 25 December 2010 - 10:57 PM in Modifications

See, this is the problem I kept running into. I added a 1 1/4" washer to the front of the plunger head (Swapped out the screw too). Cuts down on plunger volume by a hair (moot with a stock breech), but is a great quick fix!

#295884 Longstrike Marker Barrel Replacement

Posted by Y-Brik on 12 March 2011 - 02:11 PM in Modifications

Bullshit. Don't post angled ranges, they mean nothing. There's no way a stock-springed ReClone, rebarreled or not, would hit that range flat.

#295855 Longstrike Marker Barrel Replacement

Posted by Y-Brik on 12 March 2011 - 12:26 AM in Modifications

Unique mod, I suggest solvent welding the narrower 'tip' portion of the marker into the breech if you try again.
Writeup...needs a bit of love, you completely skipped the 'mounting the breech to the boltsled' question.
Friendly advice-Don't make excuses in writeups, your work will either speak for itself or you'll deserve it. Oh, and nobody uses polls.
So good, but with room for improvement.

#305890 Longshot Fouble Prime Problems

Posted by Y-Brik on 14 October 2011 - 11:59 PM in Modifications

I've seen this to be especially the case in the yellow LS. In my current blaster, I beveled the extension on the boltsled that usually catches on the lock. If you get it right, you can override the lock without removing it altogether. The issue arises from the tail of the boltsled jamming into the right hand wall of the shell without the lock to guide it.

#295222 Lanard Shotgun Problems

Posted by Y-Brik on 01 March 2011 - 10:00 PM in Modifications

Hobby lobby, get a massive sheet of the stuff for like a dollar. I've had this problem too (Haven't managed to fix it and now own a singled Quadshot), so im interested to see how this pans out.

#280117 Lanard Shotgun Problem

Posted by Y-Brik on 12 July 2010 - 11:25 PM in Modifications

I would like to mention that I have had a similar problem on my own shotgun (Airzone variant actually; singled), as well as my friend's (Also Airzone; turreted). In both cases the catch, even reinforced with both BW's mod and an additional catch spring added (From the LS stock I believe) the catch was unable to hold anything more powerful than a 1gen LS spring (even less than the stock spring for the shotgun!)

#300531 JSPB (3DBBQ/Taiwan-style) darts?

Posted by Y-Brik on 25 June 2011 - 11:07 PM in Darts and Barrels

I would also throw in Teflon tape for consideration. That should translate to less friction, but that is purely guess work.

You sir have never used Teflon Tape- 'tape' is used strongly with this stuff, it shreds like wet toilet paper and has no adhesion. Etape or PVC tape , if you look at the darts have a smaller final OD than the foam of the dart- no contact with the barrel means no friction already.
Meanwhile, I'm detecting a potential winner for the 'new dart' challenge- I love the concept of wrapping the weight around the outside of the dart instead of slapping it right on the intended contact point. Will watch this thread carefully....
