Okay, this may sound like a "uber-newb" question but I've just recently felt up to modding a Longshot (after successful recon, crossfire, and nightfinder mods) and I am stuck. If I don't own a dremmel, how do I get the air restricter out? I've followed a few mods that recommend the dremmel but I've usually found that I can tackle it with a drill, a hacksaw, patience and a perverse desire to win. Cartoon advises not drilling it out...is there any reason for this other than the inability to get a large enough bit to make the hole the same size as his? Could this be fixed with a straw or pen? I suppose I could try a sanding bit, but I wanted to ask the experts before I took to experimenting too much.

Also, in cartoon's write up, all the parts are orange. In my long shot, most of the parts are black; are there any significant changes between generations that anyone has noted yet?

Thanks,
Ichi

The parts color have no difference.

I used a drill bit to get it out too. Just push the bolt into the plunger and drill it. I used a bit that was like a sanding bit, but metal. Then use pliers to pull it out.

Or just for-go the drilling and just use needle nose pilers and attack the 3 connectors. That's all I did and then the center piece popped out because of the AR spring.

Looking into the back of the plunger chamber, stock, you see the first part of the AR which you need to dremel out. Would it hurt to just cut the three tiny things connecting it to the outer wall? Thanks

From your description, that's basically how you get the AR out.

Would I need to reinforce my longshot if I was to add a ace 49 to it along with the original spring? I didn't see anything about it in here. Actually I need to find out if it is a 49.

No, it will be fine.

All this reinforcing crap, you don't need to!

With a BBB/ LS spring combo or just a AR15 spring, you'll just need a new plunger head (washers, new screws), or a better one.

Also, epoxy putty on the sides does nothing, its just dumb.

I've got a question for anyone willing to answer. I have removed all restrictors and replaced the barrel with a piece of chromoly tube (bad idea very little clearance but it shoots far!) and put in a NF spring but my problem is that all of my darts corkscrew meaning that their tails will spin around the head. Any ideas on how to fix this? would adding weights to the darts help?

Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are. You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Heavier darts and/or longer barrel.

Don't want to shove balls in tight spaces. Trust me, bad idea.

For sale: Vintage WWII French rifles. Dropped once, never fired.

I know this was from June, but it is an interesting point, and thus I will address it:

No, #49 Springs work wonderfully. Even if you heat temper them stretched(It is 80% successful, in my results), it is still moderately easy to hold with the current setup.

I have done 8-12 different longshots with 49s, and have never heard or seen of any of them snapping.

The spring alone won't get you 100 feet like some do, but the gun will certainly last a whole hell of a lot longer.

now, a 52 damn well WILL need re-enforced.

I was wondering the optimal length for a barrel. I am thinking around 9-10". For my ls I decided to just take my 1/2" petg and put it the stock bolt then in the stock barrel putting my main 9/16 petg barrel. The 1/2" petg fits perfectly inside the 9/16.

When I did Inventor Guy's mod, I used about a foot of CPVC. It didn't work out because I couldn't get the clip to work with the chopped up bolt. Check out his thread to get an idea on barrel length. It also really depends on how your darts fit in 9/16 PETG.

I decided on 9.5" of 9/16 petg. I tested it all out. I had to cut the bolt face off but that is irrelevant in this mod as it seals nothing. The only problem I have now is the clip lock (I looked at the diagram and I think thats what it is) spring popped out into oblivion. Is this spring necessary for using the clip?

No it isn't. I took mine out because it slows reload time. Unless you shake the gun while the bolt is open, the clip will stay put.

Thanks a bunch TatumBull. I now have a fully working petg'ed LS with the stock breach. I'll post pics in a sec.
EDIT: Pics are here

The original breach now with a stub of 1/2" petg in it

The main barrel It's just OMC petg

Few things I'm going to answer here. The 1/2" petg was bought at petland. It has e-tape over it to create a better seal with the 9/16. Yes I cut off the stock breach head because it was unnecessary and got in the way of the 9/16.

That is fucking awesome. I would have totally done this if I hadn't already started an Angel breach.

What do you think is the best spring choice/ combo:

-Ace #69 (ridiculously strong, fits perfectly like the original spring does)

-1.5 Ace #49 springs

-Original LS spring + Ace #49

-Original LS spring + 1.5 Ace #49

Original LS spring + 1 stretched NF spring.

Also, I'm adding sheet matal to my boltsled. Do I just epoxy the metal on, or is there another way?

And to mod the clips, do I have to put the side bars going all the way down, or to save metal, can I make them go half way down?

And where can I find Zap-A-Gap/ Fishin Glue for my Angel breech?

Do NOT stretch springs. It's retarded, and it reduces spring performance.

Go with the LS + Ace #49, and if that's too much for the catch, go with the 49. But if the 49 is anything like the AR-15, it'll work well.

Sheet Metal: Just epoxy it on. Or use Zap-A-Gap

Clips: You only have to put strips on the top 1" of the clip, the other darts don't move backwards. I have less than 1" of plastic strip on my clips.

I get Zap-A-Gap from www.towerhobbies.com and I can get Fishin Glue at ACE hardware.

As a note, I'm also offering the breech pictured above in my Angel Breech sales thread, it's cheaper than the angel breech, but it also isn't as good.

Thanks, one more question though. Can I add another .5 #49 to the combo so it doesnt rattle around?
