Thanks, one more question though. Can I add another .5 #49 to the combo so it doesnt rattle around?

You probably could, it really depends on the compression ratio and how strong your catch is going to end up being. You might want to cut some sheet metal to reinforce the catch too.

Catch sprin(s) will be as strong as it needs to be. Where do I put the metal on it?

No. It won't compress all the way then.

69s you'll need to beef up the catch.

49+LS spring work just fine, and is easy to prime.

Put a flat sheet on the rear of the catch and cut out a hole to match the one in the catch.

I measured the coils and 1.5 #49's will compress all the way, but will it be too strong? Thanks.

As more and more people, new and old alike, acquire and inquire about their brand-spankin' new Longshots, how they can modify them for increased performance, and to stave off excessive traffic from Forsaken_Angel24's mod directory, here's the direct links to most of the practical Longshot modifications.

LET ME START WITH THIS WARNING: If you are new to Nerf blaster modification, these modifications aren't the best one to start out with. Part placement is crucial, you need great amounts of patience, and understanding of theory of how spring-powered Nerf blasters work. If you break your brand-new $30 toy, don't go posting all over how you ruined your Longshot. Consider yourself warned.

And for those modifying Longshots for the first time, take this advice from master modifier Captain Slug;

TO REMOVE THE ORANGE PRIMING HANDLE USE A CLAW HAMMER

THE ORIGINAL: Carrtoon's foundational Longshot mod; Air restrictor removal, spring additions.

THE WORKS: Forsaken_Angel24's HIGHLY advanced modification; brass breech, cleanly integrated front blaster, trigger fires both weapons. Absolutely "wicket". Definitely not for beginners.

The Inventor Guy's mod; he made his Longshot fire stefans!

Boltsniper's Longshot mod; who doesn't like anything that he makes, anyway?

Dark Shrimp's Longshot clip mod; two can be better than one and one.

Captain Slug's innovative "shotgun" foregrip; there still may be some for sale...the original foregrip design.

Dart Attack's integration mod; both pistol (now integrated) and rifle fire from the same trigger! And it looks mean!

Captain Slug's modified clips...more 12-shot wonders from the "Slug-master".

bpso86's Longshot mod; PETG with a stock breech assembly, and it works!

Fenixharth's Longshot Carbine; Make a shorty Longshot without sacrificing range or accuracy!

Shorty's CPVC'd Longshot mod; 100 foot shooter, clipless, but versatile for outdoor wars.

OfAllTheNerf made this awesome Longshot/DTG hybrid; clean, and who wants to contend with 22 shots?

yea ls can b good need a new one though, the paint messed with myu screws and i cant open it

Here are the cosmetic mods and showoff threads...all nice ones.

CROW's cosmetic work; he'd best be careful about taking that thing in public.

Spark's LS cosmetics

SPU-Nerf's cosmetics; for some reason I really like this one.

Darkstarfire's broken bolt; I just included this because his LS looks really funky. Good funky. I hope it's fixed.

Shorty's AR 43 Carbine; Shorty usually irritates me but for some reason I think his Longshot rocks my socks. Plus, it's functional as heck.

If I forgot your mod or showoff shot, sorry. There are so many posts on the LS, I'd figure that the wave of Penny Arcade readers that make their way here, in addition to all the new LS owners that would have somewhere for quick reference.

This will be updated as necessary.

And why the hell did you just re-post the entire first post?

I've angeled my longshot, and added an NF spring. I now have collapsing stock syndrome. Has anyone figured out a way to fix this while keeping a collapsable stock? If not, I'll start getting to work on it.

There was a note in my longshot writeup thread, I believe it was about putting an extra spring behind the tab that locks the stock in place.

Just put a stronger spring under the little cover where the original spring went. Can anyone answer my previous question?

For a purely stock setup, yes. It will eventually slide out of the catch.

Mildly annoying.

You will likely have to add a spring if you do 1.5 49s.

I'm adding aluminum to the back of the catch and adding three strong springs on the top. I want my LS to last forever. My official spring choice is BBB+LS. I used 1.5 #49 to replace the bbb.

What type of glue is best for a front integration? And is there anyway I can add metal reinforcement to the integration?

Most people have success with Epoxy/plumbers goop.

Mainly, you need something to attach it, and then filler to make it even.

You can "bolt" the integration on if you wanted to. Something like metal clips would work. A bit unnecessary though.

There is a cross/star shaped piece on the plunger tube, and I was wondering if it is really necessary. If so, where the hell does it fit?

That nub on the outside of the plunger tube fits into a little hole in the gun shell.

how do u take out the air restrictor :D

Thanks a bunch TatumBull. I now have a fully working petg'ed LS with the stock breach. I'll post pics in a sec.
EDIT: Pics are here

*big pics with descriptions of said pics*

Few things I'm going to answer here. The 1/2" petg was bought at petland. It has e-tape over it to create a better seal with the 9/16. Yes I cut off the stock breach head because it was unnecessary and got in the way of the 9/16.

I'm PETGing my LS like that, but instead of just sticking a stub of smaller PETG/brass/copper in the breech, I've cut the most of the breech off as one would do with an Angel breech. I think this should work out but I just want to make sure, so does anyone know of any reason it wouldn't work?

I am planning on doing a PETG barrel/stock breech thingy, and a larger spring was in order. However, I have no access to sheet metal for reinforcements, so I was looking for a spring that won't "Skullfuck the shit" out of my gun. I currently have the stock spring and a spring from my basement that looks like a slightly beefier nf spring. Any ideas?

Flip through the topic for spring suggestions.

Personally, I use ones from ace. (#49? Been awhile)

For anyone looking for a way to remove the AR, I'm pretty sure I have found an easier way to do it. On my longshot, the piece of the bolt that is inside the plunger chamber, and pushes the plunger back, is in two pieces. one has the AR connected to it, and the other is connected to the bolt. Just pull out the inner part, and the AR should come out completely. I'm waiting for the crowds to die down so I can get a new longshot to check this out, but in the mean time, that might be the way to go.

EDIT: Ignore all that, go back to your needlenose pliers. It don't work...

Until I can find some more strong enough springs for the catch, I've actually taken out the stock longshot spring and left the additional spring (I purchased at home depot). The smaller spring actually seems to work better than the stock spring. But when I had both springs in, I had some really nice ranges.

Hi, I added a Nite Finder spring to my longshot and the range SUCKS. Do I have to do AR removal, because I really don't want to mess up on the drilling and break it. Any suggestions other than AR removal?

Thanks,
Bambampker

I still don't get what's so hard about the AR. You need a pair of needle nose pliers and some muscle. But if you want to keep it in your going to still get bad ranges. You can put e-tape over the hole though, as I doubt that someone who is scared to remove an AR can pull something off like a plunger head replacement.

I didn't have to drill anything out of mine. Just take it apart, get the plunger disassembled, and take your needlenose' to the 3 prongs that hold the restrictor's cap in place, and twist them until they snap. Then, pull the restrictor cap out, pull the restrictor out, and put the plunger back together. That's what I did. That's what my cousin did.
