#285502 Guide To Barrel Material

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 16 September 2010 - 02:16 PM in Modifications

Does anyone know if any petg usable by the nic is avaliable on McMaster?

I am looking for a suitable barrel material for springs and air guns that would fit This foam. I would like to stay away from brass if at all possible. What would you suggest?

Springer barrel material --> 9245K25

Try searching next time.

I apologize. Thank you very much for your help. I've been looking all day for that.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm going to be buying material for captain slug's washer/felt stefans, and wanted to know if I could buy the foam in incriments of something between 25' and 250'. Optimally I would like 100'.

Here is the link to the part in question.

Thanks!

Here is what you want.

Same exact thing you linked to, but in 20' sections instead of 250' sections. I know you want it in 25'+, but is ordering 4x25' that much different from 5x20'?

I can't thank you enough.

#286420 Is A Big Bad Bow Spring To Stong For A Stock Longshot Boltsled?

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 02 October 2010 - 12:58 PM in Modifications

Most likely. Your best bet is to reinforce the boltsled with coathangers, or aluminum. Alternatively, you could order an aluminum longshot boltsled, and never have to worry about it.

I'm just wondering if it will break it.

Yes, it will.

#287261 Homemade Air Restrictors?

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 20 October 2010 - 07:34 PM in Modifications

[disclaimer]I apologize in advance if this should be in homemades, or not at all.[/disclaimer]

However stupid this may sound, I was wondering if anybody would know how to go about making an "air restrictor" out of pvc which would decrease the power of a blaster when attached via coupler.

The reasoning behind this is that for some game types (Such as zombies) having a powerful weapon is generally extremely erotic, and unnecessary. If you had a way to temporarily limit the power on it, though, you would not have to switch weapons during such game types.

Does anyone else see any merit in such a thing?

Thanks.

Easiest way would be to put a ball valve somewhere before the barrel in your setup. You could then dial down the air opening or flip it all the way open pretty easily.

(air system)=(valve)==[ barrel ]

That's a great idea. Thank you.

If you're really worried (say you already have an RSCB and still are shooting too far), make it with a 1/2" cross instead of a tee, and run PVC along the top of your RSCB a few inches for more deadspace. That's what I had to do for my modded Iron Man 2 Super Soaker; it was borderline dangerous at Hell Before Halloween 4, and really needed that extra reservoir to be safe.

Granted, this doesn't apply to most things used in Nerf (I had a large amount of power compared to most things), but if you really need to cut range, it works.

Thanks, that seems very practical and useful.

1/2" CPVC is way too small (i.e. can't even force the dart all the way in)

Sorry if you've already tried this, but when I first tried using cpvc as a barrel material I also thought it was way too tight. I, however, was just trying to push it in, instead of twisting. If you haven't already, try twisting the foam into the cpvc.

Sorry if that doesn't help you.

I was banned from nerfchat while I was away at school. I'm not sure why. Looking at my logs it seems like they were just dicking around, but they never unbanned me.

Fantastic, this same concept could be applied to any couplered gun for rear loading without having to remove the barrel entirely. Kudos to you.

#291184 Texan Winter War

wing'd man is right, Texas gets cold like once a year.

Talk about a necro.

Are there any texas nerfers still interested in something like this?

#292016 Hoppers W/ Pistols

For a nf hitting approx 60 feet a 3 dart inline clip seems to be optimal.

#292017 Guide To Barrel Material

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 01 January 2011 - 05:23 PM in Modifications

One last suggestion:

Nest cpvc in pvc and them ream it out as if you were constructing a barrel for a hopper. Try to make this as deep as possible.

This should significantly improve ease of loading.

I believe the u3 already does something similar to solve the "air gulp" issue.

I can't find a link right now, but they essentially did the same thing.

#292543 Long Range Primary?

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 10 January 2011 - 10:39 AM in General Nerf

I was actually thinking of making a Ja-bow, seen here. It's so incredibly simple that I have to try it. In addition, I will still get a Big Blast and make a RSCB clip for it. Can someone with clip fabbing experience tell me what diameter and types of pvc are used in this image Posted Image

The OP said nothing about what types and measurements went where and this looks much simpler than the old tutorial in Nerfhaven's mods section. I do know that the joints are 1/2" and there is both CPVC and PVC involved. I just need a description of which is where so I can put one together.

I think this should work out pretty well right?

If you're willing to spend the time/money an aabow would be a much better choice.

A name suggestion would be "SnipR3"

Not only would "snipre" be a bit more unique, but it keeps the "R3"

#292876 Mcmaster Carr Foam

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 15 January 2011 - 04:54 PM in Darts and Barrels

I'm currently using it as my primary foam and I in my experience the following is true:

It has a slightly larger diamater than most other foams

It has a tight twist in cpvc

It's a bit tight for an airgun fit in thickwall petg.

It fits mcmaster petg (9245K25) Great for a springer.

A good airgun fit for it is mcmaster part 48855K21.

The density is all right, better than most other venues but not as good as swiftnerf or b1g13en foam.

Please not that this is all after heating.

#292941 Mcmaster Carr Foam

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 16 January 2011 - 03:24 PM in Darts and Barrels

Mcmaster is the only provider that carries this exact foam. Buying elsewhere will result in a different fit.

20 feet of mcmaster foam is part 93295K33.

250 feet is 93295K43.

Pretty good for a first writeup. Perhaps you could consider replacing the plunger o ring if maximum seal is your goal.

#293396 Scammed Again For $190!

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 26 January 2011 - 02:33 PM in General Nerf

I don't know about you, but it takes some serious effort to build up a positive reputation here on the Haven as a good Buyer/Seller. Maybe you should think about selling in our threads.

Although that seems like a great idea, the cold hard truth is nobody here is going to want to buy a shittily painted black and silver recon. Not even for $40. He was selling something that only stupid children on ebay would buy, and guess who bought it? A stupid child on ebay.

#293470 Homemades Picture Thread

Posted by Inferno Falcon on 27 January 2011 - 09:51 PM in Homemades

Alright, so this isn't much, but I thought it was unique enough to share with you guys.

Blowguns can actually be very effective when used correctly, but one of their bigger downfalls is that since you need a very long barrel to get good performance with one, it's hard to carry them unless they're your primary blaster. This is especially an issue since blowguns are a great secondary longish range weapon, for if your primary blaster jams, or you run out of darts in your hopper and don't have time to reload it. Here's an idea to overcome that.

Posted Image
Posted Image

I drilled through part of the tee with a dremel drill bit. Then I put a bandolier thingy through it. I used 3 feet of pipe, and the strap was easily adjustable to be quite snug when on my back. I can easily run with this on, and is very light.

Posted Image

1/2 Sch. 40 on the top for tagger darts, and thickwall pvc for stefans. (mcmaster part 48855K21)

I can get about 65 feet with slugs at very slight angle. I really like this setup and hope to use it at my next war.

If you're going to keep the pump there consider replacing the MB pump handle with a 3/4 pvc tee. I find it's more comfortable.

Super sexy, yo!

I stuck a 1/2 bushing in the back like so

Posted Image

Then took the back thingy off a recon, put a 3/4 coupler (fits perfectly) and then nested a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer inside of that. Then all that was left was to put a stub of pvc on it. (Ignore the petg)

Posted Image

This allows it to use a pvc stock or an nstrike stock, and can be applied to any blaster.
