I just fabricated a boltsniper-esque ejector for my homemade. It's not even all that hard, just time consuming; it took me about 45 minutes.

I brainstormed many of the ideas listed here, and ultimately found bolt's to be the easiest. I used 3/16" aluminum rod instead of carbon because it was cheaper.

I strongly recommend you go with this type of ejector; it's not as hard as it looks. Trust me.

Good luck. Lord knows both of our homemades are going to need it.

Is the operation smooth? Also, can we get a picture? I wanted to look at this from as many different angles as possible so I get all of the positioning right when I go to build it.

Thanks six-five-two.

What if we combined NerfFreak's design with Bolt's? Add the extractor to his design? Think that would work?

Which one of Bolt's guns? The SCAR-N? It might be possible, but someone has to explain to me how the SCAR-N ejects it's shells.

It's best to think of the ejector as the extractor/ejector, as one won't work without the other.

The extractor is a hook that grabs a rim on the base of the shell and pulls it out of the barrel. The ejector is already compressed against the base of the shell, opposite the hook. When the shell reaches the breech, the ejector is able to push forward, causing the shell to flip around the extractor hook.

It's the same way that the FAR extracts/ejects its shells. It's helpful to examine the FAR, as the parts are bigger...makes it easier to see.

Thanks Carbon. I just wasn't sure if Bolt's SCAR-N used a different system.

Ronster, any chances of posting that simpler carrier idea?

Well, it's a bit hard to explain to were it's understandable.

But I got the idea whilst looking at the unique new Super V technology in the new Kriss SMG.
The carrier would have two walls on the sides in which a slot is cut. The bolt would have two arms that would slide through these slots on each side and make the carrier rise.
As the bolt moved forward, the arms would engage with the slots bringing the whole carrier upwards along with the shell. No more gears.

That is actually pretty feasible... The only problem is that you would need to pull back the bolt to load additional shells, which can cause you to eject a loaded shell in the process. Unless I am not seeing where the carrier would pivot and had the points backwards, but that's how it looks right now.

P.S.: The Kris is insane. 1200 rounds per minute with .45 caliber slugs....

Shit that's ingenious. The most God-damned simple idea, and it has eluded us all. You just need something to help keep the other shell from sliding under it when it is raised, and a way to keep the raised shell up in the chamber. Unless I'm missing something.

Ingenious. I've worked out a way where the shell can be chambered before the carrier lowers. I'll have to build it first though, since it's just too damn hard to explain.

I'm going to go work on my shotty now, since the carrier idea is actually now basically done.

P.S.: If by any chance this carrier doesn't work, I have my own idea that might help.

Yeah, a few pages back we figured all that out. It's a little spring that goes on the side of the mag tube that gets depressed when the carrier comes down. There's a picture back there somewhere, but I don't feel like searching; although I will say that this design makes that work much much easier than with the other designs.

The only problem I can see is the one that SHA brought up...wait; SHA you can adjust the shape to fit the shell under the loaded shell and have the loadee shell eject the loaded one.

Operation is fine. Ultimately, I dropped the idea of shells AFTER I built the bolt. but I'm keeping the part for two reasons

1) sentimental value. 45 minutes for ADD-man is an accomplishment
2) I'm going to come back to the idea of a shell fed gun, perhaps NEXT summer. This summer, I'm simply trying to finish my homemade arsenal (2 snaps, GNS, Custom Primary).

Who should I go to for photo hosting?

Well, I've been working through the day, so here's what I have done.

Posted Image

I also have the plunger completed, the main spring ready, and the bolt is almost complete, I just have to add an extractor/ejector system, and a restrictor claw, or something of the sort, since I'm using Commonly Hunted's ramp idea. I'm using a combination of Torque's trigger idea with Boltsniper's trigger plate for the fire control group.

A few questions:
How are you guys planning on connecting the slide to the bolt? Internally or externally?
What do you guys think of my design?

I opted for external on my creation, but since shells aren't an issue, I'm going to have two transfer bars (one on each side) rather than one on top. Might prevent binding... dunno... Bolt used one transfer bar, so either setup would probably work.

Looks rather tasty.

EDIT: your pistol grip is angled back fairly far. It's a GREAT idea for sidearms (one of the redeeming qualities of the Luger), but *could* be less ergonomic for a pump-action rifle. Let me know how it works out.

Go back a few pages; my most updated build has everything laid out with pictures and how I got it all to stay. I used a bar expoy-puttied to the handle and to the bolt via a rectangular piece of PVC screwed into the bottom of my bolt/plunger housing assembly. The bar is technically exposed, though if finished it wouldnt' have to be.

Shell ramp looks fairly steep. Same with pistol grip.

Actually, the shell ramp works just fine, odly. I thought it was too steep too, but the shell advances up it with relative ease.

I'm reconfiguring the design, so sit tight for a bit. It will look more shotty-ish later.

I've updated my shotty a bit, so now it's less messy and looks more like Commonly Hunted's design.

Ronster, I plan on cutting a insertion hole at the front of the magtube. If that doesn't work, maybe a hinged panel to open up one side of the ramp, like where the wood is on my first design. THe shells could then be loaded through there.

Double Post.

Posted Image

I've changed my shotty around to make it neater and to function better. The shells now get loaded to be chambered much more easily, with less stress on the ramp from the spring. No restrictor claw is needed, as I've come up with a spring loaded piece that attaches to the bolt to push the shell or spring back into the magtube. That, along with the extractor/ejector, still has to be fabricated into the bolt. From top to bottom, there is:

-The main reciever w/ magtube
-The bolt, plunger, and main spring
-The cam rod
-Various stock pieces

The magtube does look crooked/angled, but it's not. This picture was taken from an angle. The trigger system is to be designed and built this week. I believe the shotty could be done well before I get out of school on the 20th of June.

Any questions, comments, concearns?

I lost my neatest one, so I made one that isn't planned on being used in the shotty. It's really badly made, as I needed a quick replacement to make sure my systems worked. It's a 1 3/4" section of CPVC with a 1/2" PVC shell case and rim. Nothing much. The strange thing is that my bolt doesn't need an extractor. It's tight enough to pull the shell out of the chamber but loose enough to let it be ejected correctly.

Pics in a bit. I won't be around for a while, so I'll try and get them up after I get home tonight.

So it's a mini version of the FAR shell, but made for micros?

Basically. I had to change the bolt around a bit, but it should still work.

Anyway, I need to shorten the plunger, but then I can construct the grip, stock, and fire control group.
