Big loads are fun. I have more points than people with twice my loads.

Interesting, that big ass WU I just finished put me in 20th place, going from 66 points to 666 points. I like big loads.

Edit: Just rigged my p4 3.2 to work two units at a time, W00T.

All right, I know nothing at all about computers and/or software...

I downloaded the Windows 2000/XP "no nonsense" version as NerfMonkey and at the black screen that came up when I opened the file, after filling in the fields I could (most), it asked me for my user ID from server. I of course have no idea what this is, so if anyone could tell me how to find out it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You only need to answer the first three questions, it takes care of the rest.

It sounds like what you're talking about is the client requesting an ID from the F@H servers.

I too started today. I think I did it right, but when I click on LDM on the status screen thing, it takes me to some other LDM of another team. Is this because I haven't finish a WU yet?

From looking at some of the stats, it appears that NerfHaven is in the top 200 for 24 hour point averages. If you look at the rankings, it has the date of overtake for each team we are on pace to pass in the overall ranking. Though these are based on current rates only, I think the results are pretty encouraging. Based off what I saw last night, we should reach the top 800 in the next 6 weeks.

Not to mention that we have been consistently ranked in the top 5 in terms of 24 hour rank movers, and are ranked in the top 5 for movers of the week.

Keep those machines folding guys!

Nope, it's because you picked a name already in use.

You'll need to stop the service, run it again with the -configonly option, and change your name. Then restart your computer so the service launches again.

The top of this page has a little search box where you can verify that your name isn't in use.

Once you have a unique name, you will show up in the stats once you submit your first WU.

It's most likely because there already was an LMD and you're just gonna give him more points. You'll have to change your user ID.

Edit: cxwq beat me to it.

You guys are going to have to pick up the slack for a little bit while I sort some things out... my (asshole) co-sysadmin arbitrarily decided to impose a group policy software restriction on the FAH client. Sometimes being the DB guy rather than the Systems guy has its drawbacks.

At the moment I only have 3 PCs folding but I think the high volume Skinny Puppy coming from my speakers will eventually cause him to capitulate.

Ha! I just noticed (when I restarted my computer) that the F@H core was running all along with no possible way of me knowing or restarting it, and I completed like 6 work units.

I just added another computer, and a few more are to come.

Coming up on you, VACC.

Just means you haven't submitted a work unit in the last 7 days. To find out why, check the FAHlog.txt file in your install directory. If it's been working on one WU for at least 7 days and there are no errors, then that explains it.

In other news, you guys are rocking the WUs. I've only turned in a couple hundred points in the last 24 hours but everyone else is taking up the slack and we're still clicking along at around 3k points per day. Once I get things resolved at work we'll be blazing.

Since my last update we've gained 4 members! Welcome to Flamebo, Hyperion, merlinski, and RenegadeNerf. This may be the last full ranking screencap I'll be able to get - I had to reduce my font size to get it all in my browser window.

Everyone is kicking serious ass now. baelnorn has moved back into 2nd place for the moment. baelnorn, quasar, and Shinny have all joined the 10,000 point club. Cranky has passed Ompa and moved into 6th place. Darkshrimp has taken over 8th place with Piney and Andrew_01 (who has moved up 9 places!) right behind him. Flamebo is moving up the charts quickly and may be challenging those guys soon.

1,333rd place! Top thousand by end of the month and top 800 by end of next month are practically unavoidable now.

I've been reduced to 2 or 3 boxes for the last couple days so you guys are putting up those numbers all by yourselves. Keep recruiting new members and adding CPUs! If you've been thinking about a computer upgrade, you can get a Sempron 3000+ for about $75 now. That sucker will average around 200 points per day - just thought you'd like to know... <g>

Keep em folding!

Alright, I'm back on track. I had to restart the entire thing, and now I'm taking on a 5000000 step WU with a beater of a PC. Don't worry, I think I'll be an official contributor to the team in about a month. Once school starts, I'm going to try and run it off of their PCs since they keep going 24/7. Currently have 16/400 frames completed. At least I'm trying.

Keep up the good work!

Okay, I've been wondering how this works for a while now and just got an answer so I'm here to share it with all of you. In general, because the WUs are spec'd on a specific machine which is more than likely different from the one you're using to fold, your points per day will fluctuate depending on which jobs you get assigned to. This is normal and to be expected. But sometimes, occasionally, I would get a WU which would give me an insane number of points. I mean like double the amount I would normally get in that amount of time. Turns out they give up to 100% bonus points for WUs which either put undue stress on the machine, require more machine resources than normal, or are relatively untested code which might have stability issues.

Only consider doing the following if your machine is relatively modern and you can accept a greater chance of it crashing - overclockers need not apply.

That said, these changes might increase your point output by 40-60% on average, depending on how many advanced/big WUs are available at any given time.

During setup (you can run it again by stopping the client then running it with the -configonly flag) if you tell it to accept work units greater than 5MB your FAH process might use more RAM, more memory bandwidth, and have bigger downloads. I wouldn't do this unless you have ample system memory.

When you launch the client (or when the service controller launches it) if you specify the -advmethods flag, you might get code which has not be thoroughly tested and may cause instability or crashing. Only use this setting on a computer that you can keep an eye on to make sure it's still running. To add the flag to your service entry, run regedt32 and do a find for FAH502. Look for the value specifying your exe location and the -svcstart flag. Edit it to include the -advmethods flag as well.

When you do one of these things you will get some of the bonus point WUs that are available. When you do both of them you will get any bonus point WUs that are available.

If you have a hot new computer that isn't doing anything terribly important these two options will definitely increase your point totals.

How do I enter config mode on the console, I can't seem to figure it out. I got a 3.2ghz p4 just waiting to take on some of those larger ones and me or my brother are always on it so monitoring it wouldn't be a problem. I have a fairly big unit right now(it takes close to an hour to complete one percent) and I expect some big points from that.

I have had large WUs enabled since the beginning. This is mostly because I have machines that can handle the amount of memory needed to do them. I have found that I don't get a points per day allotment, so much as I get exactly how much each WU is worth as listed on the link that Cx linked to on this topic's page 5. I'm pummeling my two machines enough just by staying within striking distance of second place, I really don't want to push them any farther than I am already.

Last time I had the console version it didn't properly, and I hear it is way more efficient, so I'll work on trying again...

Edit: Will I lose my current work unit?

Davis, probably.

flamebo, go to services (control panel -> administrative tools -> services) and stop the one that starts with FAH. Then open a command prompt in your FAH directory and type:

FAH502-console -configonly

It will go through and ask you all the questions again, with your old answers as defaults. When you're done it will exit. Restart the computer to fire the service up again.
