Errrr, I just nailed this huge 360 point WU a day or two [I think it might even be three days] ago, yet im still not up on the list. I'm now processing my next WU, and it hasn't really mentioned much about my old one, should I post some log or something?

Seems like you're in 32nd place. Either you fixed your network issue or you were just impatient?

Welcome to the team, I'll post screencaps and a rundown either tomorrow evening or Monday morning.

Edit: The second highest point total (behind me) for the last 7 days is Andrew_01. This becomes more of a race every time I look at it.

Edit Edit: People with more than 1,000 points turned in during the last 7 days: Cxwq, Andrew_01, quasar, Davis, Shinny, Flamebo, The_Trouble. Hyperion and earl_the_bunny just missed that mark.

It was 3 days I thought, and that was a huge wait on my part. Not to worry, I don't fold much anyway.

I'm falling a little behind...or is it my machines?

My office comp is an old P3, and it's clicking away at some smaller WUs...I'm in my house right now so I'll post specs on that one later.

Here my two older, slower comps are folding relatively medium sized WUs...but they're taking some time on them.

Comp 1 (Home-Desktop)

Celeron 1.3 / 384 MB

p890_p53dimer890; still going since downloading on 8/12...one step every 110 minutes. Seems kind of long for a not-so-big WU. (92% completed).

Comp 2 (Home-Laptop); Old Toshiba Satellite running Windows 98.

Celeron .5 / 128 MB

p2008_BBA5; downloaded 8/11/05, still going, 70 % completed.

All of my computers (including my office comp) are second-hand used, at least several years old, and while not very fast, are quite reliable and do the tasks which I require of them (spreadsheets, schedules, e-mail, photo processing and PowerPoint), and some games to keep my kids occupied every now and then.

No high-speed. No cable or DSL. No network. Nothing very fancy. Just downright and dirty machines that (eventually) get the job done.

Are my numbers pretty much normal? It seems some of the other smaller WUs (like p1800 series) fold a lot faster than the medium/ larger ones. I have large WUs disabled, so as not to grab something that would take less than forever to complete.

Any advice or pointers? That is, besides getting new machines. These are still working fine for me. Though the college kids who were here a couple weeks ago kept waving G3 and G4 Powerbooks in front of my face, trying to convert me.

Well, I have three Pentium 4's running, all doing a lot during the day, and two that I believe haven't even been running the program the last week. Yet, I can finish a 500 point work-unit in a day.

I consistently have been getting 450-500 point units since my second unit, but an anomaly occured a while back. I had a 500 point WU that flew. Like, it literally took an hour, and I was using the computer the whole time.

*Prays for more work units like that.*

Wow, I have been moving up the last few days, like a few rankings a day, but it's a leap to Ompa, and if I manage to crawl past Crank and Andrew, I run into trouble.

See, a 3000 point leap while the person ahead is still running F@H isn't quite possible. But, I'll keep on folding.

Piney, your numbers look pretty normal from my experience. I've run Celeron 500s and they seem to average about 20 points per day. Regarding the variability in points per day between the different projects, there are two different factors at work. The first is that some of the cores make better use of SSE, SSEII, and other advanced instruction sets. These will run *much* faster on fairly new processors and seem quite slow on older Celeron, P3, etc machines. Other cores are pretty basic and will run as well on older machines as newer ones. The other is that the relatively new projects are usually tested out first with people running the -advmethods option and given a significant point bonus.

The result is that my Athlon 64 3000+ has done anywhere from 90 to 350 points per day, entirely depending on what work units I am assigned.

I haven't read much on powerpc performance with F@H. I'm sure it's pretty good because of the great FP numbers for that architecture. That said, I think PPC performance has lagged x86 performance for some years now.

On the folding forums there is a great deal of data to support the assertion that AMD chips are significantly better folders than Intel chips. The proc of choice at the moment seems to be the faster single-core Athlon 64s like the 3500+ Venice - which happens to be a decent overclocker as well.

Speaking from personal experience, my (personal) 3000+ Venice smokes my (work) P4 2.8 HT by at least 25%.

I had an I/O error when my house comp hiccuped last night, and my p890 work unit was deleted, at 98% completion. A new work unit was downloaded and started.

I can't believe this. It was folding for 10 days, and it's gone.

But, that's life and folding, I guess. Onward and fold-ward.

Wow, 1087th place. We're currently headed for top 1000 by next Tues or Wed.

Let's welcome... nobody. We haven't had any new people sign up since taita_cakes four days ago. To stay at our current pace we need new members to replace those who have dropped out so everybody try to get some new recruits!

Congratulations to Andrew_01 who has unseated Crankymonky for 6th place! Other movers include Davis in 9th, Flamebo in 10th, Viper in 11th, Hunter in 16th, Phantom in 18th, BlackWrath in 19th, Hyperion in 20th, RenegadeNerf in 23rd, LDM in 24th, Jakethesnake in 28th, and Devious in 30th. Congrats to all of you for continuing to climb up the rankings!

The top 10 producers (ranked) for the last week are:
  • cxwq
  • Shinny
  • quasar619
  • The_Trouble
  • Flamebo388
  • Andrew_01
  • That_Dude_Davis
  • RenegadeNerf
  • LDM5
  • Hyperion21454
Since this thread has gotten so long, I edited the first post with links to most of the pertinent information and to our three team stats pages.

Keep adding those CPUs!

My PC's are back on, I went on vacation and turned them off. So I'll be helping out again.

10 second Edit: After this Work Unit, I'll leave the Sempron 3100+ on with nothing else running because someone wanted to see how it folded, I think it was Cx.

Yeah, I want to see how it compares to the Athlon 64 3000+ I'm running. I don't think the differences between Sempron and A64 will be that significant for this application. The Sempron should prove a really good value for those who want to upgrade a system without breaking the bank.

There has been little trash talking in this thread, and I think it's time we change that.

Who can stop me from taking the #2 spot and holding it until the contest is over? Cxwq showed me a page of inodividual stats and rates. According to the current numbers, I am set to completely surpass quasar in the next 23 days. I however think it will be sooner, but if those are the numbers, then I guess they must have some validity.

Meanwhile, both quasar and baelnorn are set to get passed by other NH folders besides myself. I however lie on a path where no one else is even gaining ground on me. There are no threat stats in my results caused by anyone else on this site. The only other person here that can say this is cxwq, which I think means that I am on pace to grab the #2 spot and the prize on christmas morning.

If all goes well, I expect to be able to turn both my machines off a week before Christmas and still win the contest.

So who here is ready to humble the admin? I'm serious, somebody needs to give me a challenge. I've been folding with a laptop and a pretty pagthetic desktop compared to what some people have. Heck, we have folders with more than two machines, and I am gaining ground on them, what gives?

Happy Folding!

I accept your challenge, I'll install on my moms comp when she fixs it but thats all I can get in addition to mine(currently running two FAH services.) My moms comp is about as fast as mine but isn't on as often as mine, mainly because I run 24/7. I should be able to get close to you, if not completly pass you. Mine is a P4 3.2ghz with 512 ram and hers is p4 3.0ghz 512 ram. I'll do my absolute damndest to beat you. But just a quick question, going at my current rate, how long before I would pass you if at all?

I only have 1 PC, but its an AMD 2800+. How do you put multiple processors on one account? I have my laptop on team 45293 but it says even though I have the same username that I used on my comp. That's insane that I'm already in 11th place even though I have 1 processor and haven't been folding for too long.

Did you guys see where Protease inhibitors which have almost cured HIV, except that HIV-A3 strand and Viagara was also developed using folding@home information. PEOPLE GET MORE COMPS. I'm gonna try and get Western Michigan to use folding@home.

You can find all of those stats at this link. At the time of this post, I am scheduled to suprass quasar in four days, and no one is in sight of beating me. It also looks like I could be adding some more CPUs soon.

Viper, you just install Folding@Home on other machines. Just make sure to use the same username and team number. Folding@Home supports multiple machines, all you need to do is make sure you indicate the same user name as is on your other machine(s) and verify the correct team number.

I'd like to add that you must change the "Machine ID". Your one processor should be "Machine ID: 1", and all the new computers should be "Machine ID: 2/3/4/5" and so on.

Again, make sure you use the same team number (45293) and the same user name (_____) when doing each console's configuration.

I hope that helps.

Actually, you only need to change the machine ID when running multiple F@H threads on a single computer. If you have a MP or hyperthreading machine, do that. If you have multiple physical machines, just run the installer on each and type in your name and team number - easy peasy!

After a "guilt inducing" IM from CX I got my machines going.

Right now I`ve got 3 CPU's ticking away:
P4 3.2GHz @ 3.9GHz 1.5Gb Ram (both cores)
P4 1.5GHz @ 1.7GHz 512Mb Ram

Next week I`ll add my school PC and my laptop
P3 667MHz 512Mb Ram (My office PC sucks)
PM 1.86GHz 1Gb Ram

I`ll see if I can persuade any of my colleagues to get it on their machines.

Those don't exist, I don't think. The frame WUs max is 400 frames.

The team stats are updated every 6 hours or something, so your progress might not show up for hours.

Just be patient, and check back at the team stats every hour or so and see if it's been updated yet.
