We should get the wasko brothers.

Edit in response to Gears: It's a terrible thing to make jokes about a dead person like that.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

One fucking month to go; I wanted to make some notes here. First, if I haven't yet responded to your pms, there's a reason for it. The last few wars I've been involved with organizing have culminated in unforseen bouts of baby-sitting. Parents drop their kids off to nerf, and than we end up sitting in a parking lot for hours waiting for those parents to return. This park is particularly problematic in this regard because we don't know exactly when the war will be over, and until it is we won't be anywhere near the parking lot. As such, I'd prefer only nerfers who either can drive themselves, or who have a ride from fellow nerfers in attendance who will be driving themselves. If I change my mind I'll let you know, but this is not something I'm willing to debate. If I've not responded to your pm and you will indeed be driving yourself or arriving with a fellow nerfer who is driving himself, feel free to pm me again.

On a more possitive note, here's a very tentative schedule for the war:

Field: Time
Parking Lot Arrival: 9:30 - 10:00
Undiscovered Country: 10:30 - 11:05
Final Frontier: 11:10 - 11:45
The Grove: 12:00 - 12:50
The Grove: 12:55 - 1:30
Ressurection Forrest: 1:45 - 2:20
The Grove: 2:35 - 3:10
Ressurection Forrest: 3:25 - 4:00
The Arena: 4:20 - 5:00

These times are goals that we may beat, or we may exceed. The end of the war will really depend on the energy level of everyone there, but we've never had much luck dragging people all the way to 5:00 at these things. There will be minimum downtime between rounds for dart sweeps and moving between fields, and there is no scheduled lunch. Eating and drinking in between rounds will be vital.

In order to enforce round times we will be bringing our sudden death rules back. After a set time period expires (30 minutes for death matches), every nerfer remaining in play will have their hitpoints reduced to 1 for 5 minutes. Whichever team is left with the most players, at the end of sudden death, wins.

Actually Ted...we're kinda full. Tell him I'll get him in next war. After holding some spots for the regulars who I was skeptical would make it, finally got all my confirmations and it looks like we're full to capacity, which I hadn't really anticipated. If you're not on this list, I'm really sorry, but we'll be having more wars and hopefully we can make room for you. As of now, that's it. Everybody on that list, check back for updates, they should be incoming.

So, I have a question about staging. You make it sound like each field/play area is close to a mile apart and requires exhaustive hiking. At the GridCode a lot of people seemed interested in me bringing some of my "crazier" stuff to look at, but I don't want to have to haul a bunch of gear around more than one or two times. Are we more than a two-three minute jog from the parking lot (for a physically fit person)? Is there a central-ish area I can haul stuff to at the beginning of the day and then dash there between rounds to change blasters? I looked at the link to google maps, but I have no idea where exactly we'll be playing and what actual distances we'll be covering. I even sat and watched footage from Dominatio to see if I could figure it out (ugh...NERF footage...). Anyway, I'm just trying to figure out what would be practical. Thanks.

The fields themselves aren't that far away from each other, but they are all collectively pretty far from the parking lot. From the grove, I'd say it'd be more of a 5 minute jog each way, but some of the closer fields could be more like 2 or so each way.

That said, this isn't really one of those "show stuff off" wars. There will be time at the beginning and end, but there's no lunch break and about as much time between rounds as high school between classes. You mainly just gotta pick a solid, reliable blaster for the good part of the day. There is a small area that we normally use for staging, but I'm doubting that we'll use it much if at all, but hopefully Vacc will chime in about that.

Yeah, Split is pretty accurate here on times and the general pace of the day. That said, there are gonna be a few people who I think are apt to pack way too heavy. Mostly anyone carrying unwieldy blasters such as hamps is likely to be grumbling by 1 or 2.

For that reason I think we'll establish a semi-floating base camp for the day. We'll probably start out in the area refered to as Undiscovered country and leave our stuff there for 2 rounds, than shift it to the Grove and leave it there while we play the rest of the park. If we do decide to traverse the park for the bathroom arena war, anyone with too much to carry will have an opportunity to get to their cars and park in an alternate parking lot a little...ok, a lot closer to that area.

Like Split said, the parking lot is a good 5 minute jog from the grove, which is the closest field we'll be using, so hitting your car between rounds is not going to be an option.

Personally all my nerf shit will fit into a single backpack, inncluding two primaries, 2 pistols, and alternate barrels. The only other thing I plan on bringing is a small communal cooler full of life giving agua. I'd also recomend you pack some rudimentary tools in case your shit starts acting up. The reliability of your nerf guns is a bigger deal here than it is at most other wars.

Another alternative is just to do our show and tell before and after the war begins, in the large open field adjacent to the parking lot. If people are interested in this we can plan on arriving a little earlier, or shifting the actual start time a bit.

I'll post a pic of the park with markings for the field boundries (which are enforced during play) at some point. Get off my back!

For those of you who have not been here before, this is the play area at deal test site:

Drink it in.

The parking lot is accross the road at the the very top of the map, all the way to the east. If you look along the edges of the map you can see cars on the road. That should give you an idea of scale.

As of right now, the following is the schedule of events for this war.

Time--Field --Game Type
09:30 -- Parking Lot -- N/A
10:15 -- Undiscovered Country --2 Team Death Match
10:55 -- Final Frontier -- 2 Team Death Match
11:45 -- The Grove -- 4 Team Death Match
12:25 -- The Grove -- Gunslinger Heaven
01:15 -- Ressurection Forrest -- VIP Escort
02:30 -- Ressurection Forrest -- 2 Team Death Match
03:20 -- The Grove -- 4 Team Death Match
04:15 -- The Arena -- Arena Battle

We need everyone to arrive between 9:30 and 10:00. If you'd like to do a some show and tell with your latest creations, show up closer to 9:30 and we'll do that in one of the fields adjacent to the parking lot. We will be heading out to our starting position for the first round at 10:00. and believe me when I say it's a little bit of a hike from the parking lot, in the north, to Undiscovered Country, at the southern end of that map.

Yeah, I was gonna make you wear a dog collar with a bell on it this time around, but after his Grid Code collision it 's becoming clear that Chris was the culprit all along. Poor Viking.

Anyway, aside from the collision, the post war comments make it seem as if everyone really enjoyed this round 5 or 6 years back. I figure the walk there gives us a breather, and the walk back will give us a chance to bullshit and work out post war plans before departing the park. That or we can just move our cars closer.

Edit: I've updated the map above to outline the zones we'll be using most of the day. I was contemplating posting another wider angle map to include the arena (aka bathrooms), but it just made that walk seem fucking daunting.

What the F is arena battle?

It's kinda hard to describe without actually seeing the area. It's these two octogonal bathrooms linked by an overhanging roof, behind two baseball diamons. The only thing the baseball diamonds bring to the mix are their bleachers being adjacent to the bathrooms.

Anyway, there are two teams, and everybody has 3 hits and starts with 3 darts and a pistol. Each team chooses 3 players to start around the buildings (in the arena) and the rest wait on the bleachers. At any point in time a nerfer in the arena can tag another player in and go out himself. Extra darts are on the bleachers, and can only be obtained when you are out of the arena. Only 3 darts can be taken into the arena at any time.

If a player loses his third life in the arena, his slot remains empty, and he cannot be replaced. Otherwise, 3:15 applies.

Anybody in the somewhat nearby area have a spare couch or floor space I could crash on either Friday or Saturday night? I just found out that I'll be in NYC for an afternoon appointment on Friday, so I'm definitely not going to drive the four hours back home just to come back the next day.

No pressure if you can't, I might just end up camping somewhere nearby. Let me know, thanks.

Ok kids, I've been involved with planning and hosting Nerf Wars at Deal Test Site since 1999. I tell you this so that you will believe me when I say that I have accumulated some Wisdom over those 11 years. I'd now like to share some of that Wisdom with you:

Water: Each player will need a gallon of cold H2O to see them through the day. Smart Money would add a bottle or two of Gatorade on top of that. DO NOT FUCK AROUND ON THIS. FYI - I've learned from experience that packing a single, insulated canteen is cheaper and easier than carrying around individual bottles of water.

Food: We eat lunch as time permits so pack something non-perishable in a brown bag and be prepared to eat on the move if needed. Try to avoid anything that's heavy in the grease/oil department, you don't want that shit sitting in your stomach after running for a few hours in 80% humidity. Due to this year's high LGLF turnout, I feel it prudent to remind you that Clams Casino or anything else from the Raw Bar is STILL not recommended.

Guns: I suggest bringing two primaries (especially if one is an airjet) and a spring pistol. Make sure that at least one of your primaries can be converted into a single-shot, single-barrel weapon. The pistol will be required for some of the rounds. Some players like to pack a small repair kit but I wouldn't go overboard here. A screwdriver, pair of pliers, superglue, and e-tape should cover a wide variety of sins. Leave anything else in your car, you don't want to be lugging around a toolbox all day.

Ammo: 100 Darts per player is the average. Anyone who's been to Deal will testify to it being a Big Place. We'll be moving from field to field throughout the day and rarely have the time to do a thorough dart sweep. Hopefully the Proliferation of Slug Darts (specifically of penis-foam manufacture) will make it easier to use one another's darts.

Misc: Sunglasses, a watch, sunscreen, bug repellent, weird medications. All good stuff to have.

So that's that. Two weeks to go and I am salivating for this war.

I've recieved some measure of feedback on Famine's ammo annotation above. People are of the oppinion that you need a great deal more darts than that. Look, we never use 100 darts in a single round, and we never lose 100 darts. That much can usually sustain us. That said, I generally make around 200 per person. You know how you play, and you know what nerf guns you'll be playing with. It's a big park, and we will not be providing a lot of time for dart sweeping. Now, in my experience that means that we just get our asses in gear and sweep for darts more quickly, but it could also mean that you end up leaveing more darts to join the line of their people, stretching back to the beginning.

Point is, you know how many darts are enough for you. Bring at least that many.

This strikes me as an odd question, but I guess that's in the phrasing. If we can nerf through it we do. If it's raining too hard to see/shoot/run, we try to wait it out. The fields are mostly grass with sparse tree cover. They react to rain in a similar fasion to other grass fields that don't see much foot traffic.

It's still more than a week out, so I'm not going to look to forcasts to color my expectations just yet.
