Since the first one was such a success.

The when:
May 23, 2009 (subject to discussion and therefore change), from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The where:
Promontory Point Park in Chicago (meeting point at 5454 South Shore Dr, Chicago, IL, 60615).

Posted Image

The park is enormous and open to use; there is another park a block or two nearby that can be used as a secondary site in case it gets boring here.

There is a Metra stop within five blocks and a 55 bus stop within two (the 55 departs from the Garfield Red Line stop).

The who:

The relevant information:
Chano the First was pretty awesome. Good times. Room for improvement, though. Let's fill that room.

Here's what to bring:
- A few guns; at least one primary and at least one pistol. We'll have loaner guns but you'll be more comfortable using what you have used previously. The pistol is for pistol rounds.
- Ammo, and a fair amount of it. Once again we'll have loaner darts but we can not promise they'll fit your barrel material.
- Eye protection. We have some of those goofy Dart Tag protection glasses and two chemistry lab protection goggles so we can provide under pressure but there's a limited supply. If you don't bring any, you can't play; there's a dollar store two blocks away where you can buy some crappy sunglasses to use.
- LUNCH AND DRINKS. Quick lunch break because Zorn and I are going to keep delay between rounds down to a minimum.

Here's what you shouldn't bring:
- Absolutely no singled Titans. Plugged Titans must be shotgunned to at least three barrels - a minimum of three barrels attached to the airtank, with all barrels firing upon the trigger pull.
- No singled AND plugged 4Bs, LBBs, National Geographic Guns, or Signal Launchers. Plugged will imply shotgunned to at least three barrels.
- Special cases on the above banned guns will be considered on a case-by-case basis; if you feel you have something that is listed as banned but doesn't perform powerfully enough to warrant banning you may bring it, but please don't waste our time with a singled, plugged Titan where you shotgun-load a single barrel. I would ban SM5Ks but almost no one has one or uses one.
- Air-powered homemades (spring-powered ones are acceptable) will be considered on a case by case basis as well but the limitations on those will be stricter, since they're generally able to put out a lot more air than most of the big blasters.
- In the pistol rounds, the following will be banned: any of the PistolSplat variants, SM750s, Secret Shot 2s, and Splitfires. Basically, no airtank blasters; however, Spiderman guns in their wrist-strap forms will be allowed. Again, if you feel that you have a gun that should be an exception to this banned list, by all means, bring it along for testing.
- Do NOT bring anything painted all black. That is bad and you won't be allowed to use it, except for PASs and RFDGs. Those come in that color and are therefore fine.

We'll play a variety of types of game throughout the day, generally leaning towards the West Coast standards laid forth in Badger's etiquette thread (stickied, please read it). The three certainties thus far are CTF, team deathmatch, and pistols round. Zorn and I will work on creating other, more unique games.

Questions? Comments? Necessary items that need addressing but not necessarily in public? PM me.

Since there was a bit of confusion from last time:

If you've cut off the orange part of the PAS or the RFSG, you're going to have to wrap some portion of the gun in Caution or Danger tape (or other colored tape of your choosing).

Out of curiosity my plugged 4B only gets about 110, 120 max. Would you allow that?

Bring it and we'll test it on-field. If it's deemed unsafe then you'll have brought an extra pound of gun that you can't use. I would recommend just making a shotgun attachment to be certainly safe.

Like most of us, I've been looking forward to this release for a while. Version 0.7.2 of I2P is a significant release marked not only by the performance improvements, but a few key decisions in structure. I think the choice to limit the number of tunnels one user can participate in was an ingenious one. Not only did it improve performance, but it lowers the risk users take in being exposed to endeavors they wouldn't wish to be exposed in. More standard services are supported.

I think that as the start of a development cycle, there could be no better place to be.

I would really like to give a heads-up here that we will certainly be cracking down on long breaks between rounds during this war. Gone are thirty minute rounds with twenty minute breaks in between; Chano will gain more glory.

Hooray! Gone will be the long breaks. I think it would be effective to have a short break every 3 or 4 rounds to allow for stefan collecting and arsenal changes/maintenance. A set lunch break would also help to cut down on the down time.

Maybe this time we can have the pistol rounds in the park. That would allow for even closer combat and avoiding getting popped at point blank by powerful primaries.

Well, shit. I talked to my parents, and they said only one war a year so far. Their reasoning is that it is too long of a drive down to Chicago. Any ideas to convince them to let me go? Last time was a blast, and I really want to go again sometime soon instead of waiting an entire fucking year.

Yeah, hopefully that'll work out. The park thing makes for good times.

How long was the drive before?

In any case, I realize that this is (I think) scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend, and that it might be hard. But come on, considering the twenty people or so at the last Chano, this is a pretty small turnout.

The drive was about 3-4 hours. I know that really isn't as much as I make it out to be, but..that's my parents reasoning. As far as I'm concerned right now, Chano is once a year. But, Milwaukee area-only wars I can attend as much as I want, despite that there aren't very many. .... I'm going to try to host one in June-July (WANO- Wisconsin Area Nerf Out), if anyone's interested..(wink wink nudge nudge) It most likely will be in Hales Corners (Waukesha county). PM if you are interested, the topic won't be up until sometime in May. DO NOT reply to WANO in this thread, I'm really not trying to hijack this thread.

But other than that, have fun at Chano. I'm jealous.

Glad to hear you're upgrading.

In any case, based on turnout we'll probably try an RFDG versus everyone round. AS far as I know, there are two potential attendees who have completed working RFDGs and another who is certainly on the way (i.e., he owns the base gun). To make the round fair the competing team will have infinite lives, twenty second count-ins, and have ten minutes to eliminate the three or so people using RFDGs (three lives a pop, twenty second count-ins). This was kicked around by Zorn and me earlier today so it's entirely possible it won't end up happening, but it sounds like a lot of fun. Prep your guns, guys.

The Rapid Fire Dart Gun is the gun that FA24 used as the base for his Doomsayer. I prefer to not use the term "Doomsayer" when referring to these guns, but it seems as if my adamant ways have created an information gap. In any case, they'd essentially be "Doomsayer and Handicapped versus Everyone" rounds.
