We can clearly see that your O-ring has plenty of room to move freely on your plunger head. Even if this is not the primaty cause of the blaster's poor performance, it's likely going to cause problems for you down the line. if you add a smaller o-ring, or two, to the plunger head behind (towards the catch mechanism) the larget o-ring it will serve to hold the larger o-ring in place and likely improve your performance.
That is very good advice, thank you VACC.
Yeah, the fact we can see that it's crooked is a big indicator that it's not doing its job. VACC's advice is good, get more (smaller) o-rings on there to hold the biggest one in place, or get two that actually fit well. Your seals are not "fine", there's big room for improvement.
Also, is your plunger rod bent? It looks like it might be in the picture. If it is, when the spring pushes it back to fire the dart, it could be causing a lot of friction and eventually snap. Replace it with something straighter if it is bent, or it will be a real pain in the ass later, when your plunger tube warps or the head snaps off.
Edit for typo.
Yes, the plunger head is a little bent. i screwed up on that part a little.
You should have payed more attention on the mechanical details (like, reading articles on this site about plunger heads, rods and o-rings), before asking for help on this forum.
Some people gave very good advise, but then you keep japping about that the gun is fine, wich is clearly not, or else you wouldn't be asking for help would you?
So you should do this:
-Add good fitting o-rings to the plungerhead.
-Straighten out your plunger tube (scrapping this one and build one from whatever material is best, search the site!!)
-Lube the thing with a good lube. (again search the site)
-Add the [k26] spring
If THEN your gun won't work properly, take pictures of the whole contraption, inside out completly taken apart, and ask again.
I tell you this because I read more topics like: "Help me my gun sucks, but it's working properly and I ain't doing anything wrong"
lately and I think it's really annoying.
Also I am a lazy bastard, because I won't search the 'Haven for the articles you should have read, you should go through that trouble not me,
Good luck and greetings,
Thank you for your well thought out and kind advice.
I know i could have searched the site more, but where is there a write-up on a bolt action gun like this?
Well except for this one and on my computer the pictures dont show up.
Oh and to everyone else, i am sorry i now realise my gun was not fine and it is a piece of crap right now.
My list of things to do now includes
-make new plunger
-get more o-rings
-get new lube
-make everything airtight.

Thanks for the complment. And thanks to everyone else for the rest of the help. but i still have yet to have my main question answered, will a +bow spring work?Sorry…all the help that can be given has bee n given.
BUT, the shear amount of effort on this device is quite impressive so props for that.
Use one piece of PCV (or whatever you want) for the tube and a home-made plunger head and you are in business.
And great work, regardless of results.
This may be a really retarded thing to ask, but what is a [k26] spring? It might be able to handle the [k26] spring, but I would advise that you reinforce everything that takes any stress because of the heavy spring. And I mean reinforce it well. So you'd probably want to focus on the plunger rod, spring rest, and catch. And even then don't be surprised if it breaks.
p.s. I already reinforced the crap out of the thing.

I think he meant blow. If your seal is too good it creates too much friction. Have you lubricated the plunger head? Streamlines or raider/longshot/recon darts have a hole in one side that causes them to fishtail out of higher power guns and don't weigh enough to work well with higher power guns. Streamlines are also loose in 9/16 which is a bad thing for springers you want a tight fit, try putting some 17/32 or tightening rings in the back of the barrel.
thanks for the help so far but its not what im looking for. I think the problem is the spring. Would a +bow spring work?
this is the lube that i use for the o-ring
here is a video of me shooting it.

So when it is primed the spring is fully compressed? What barrel material are you using? What is the fit like with your foam? How is your seal?
When i prime it it is fully compressed, I used 9/16 brass for the barrel it works very well with my darts on other guns, I use stock raider darts, very good seal(at first i put in 2 o-rings but it didnt work)
uh...whats plowing the barrel mean(its not air leaks that is the problem)

Then wen i went to fire it it acted like a stock longshot. (it sucked monkies if i dare say.) the spring is one i got from a local hardware store and i thought it would be good. What spring should i use? I thought about a +bow spring, would that work?
p.s. its not fully painted yet, its just the texture on it now.

Your seals are bad. Either o ring or the barrel. Streamlines suck ass, the o ring looks like its too small, the plunger head looks crooked and the barrel is 9/16ths, which may or may not be right for your streamlines.
First off, my seals are fine. Streamlines work, but i use washer stefens mostley. The o-ring not to small at all. The plunger is just a little crocked. 9/16 is just fine, it works perfect for me.
From what you all have told me my to do list includes:
-get white lithium greese
-get [k25] or [k26] spring
-fix the barrel seal
Thank you NerfHaven

Well I am going to say first check other areas like barrel fit, plunger seal, and did you lube it? Also have you been loading the darts all the way back?(Stupid question I know but it has to be asked in my opinion) How stiff is the spring? How far back does it catch?
i think its about 1/16 in. and it compresses to an inch and a half

I watched the video, and I am guessing you killed your O-ring with the terrible choice of lube (SILICONE SPRAY DESTROYS RUBBER), or maybe your plunger head if you didn't pad it, but the brass barrel looks like the main problem. How is that sealing with the gun? You need about a quarter of an inch of the barrel to be inside the next size up of brass to make a seal, and that doesn't look to be happening in your video. You can clearly hear a thunk instead of pop, I suggest lengthening the brass out of the nf to make the seal, and cutting a slot in the barrel to make a breach if the video is how you normally operate it. Your problem could also just plain be the stock nf O-ring simply doesn't seal with your choice of a plunger tube.
Well easist way to explain it is through another video.
View My Video
i sound weird because im sick right now.
Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!
very bad choice of lubricant (dont hear that very often)
I've tried using the same teflon silicon stuff and its terrible for o-rings
go find white lithium grease
that teflon stuff swells o-rings like no other
that may be a big part of your problem
But i just opened it back up and there is no visible sign of damage to the o-ring.
Correct, and one more caution: Cut the spring to the length of the plunger tube and no longer. However you may have to cut a new catch as I doubt the [k26] spring cut to the length you'll need will scrunch up to an inch an a half and that would mean losing some of that massive payload of air that is the whole point of this blaster (I'm assuming). You may want to try a wider plunger tube and a [k25] spring (I don't want to look up the part number but it's the same as the +bow spring only with a five at the end instead of a six) as the coils are spaced out a little farther and it compresses more. It's also less likely to destroy your blaster and it'll wash your car for eight bucks (I really love this spring).A [k26] spring is a plus bow spring. It can be ordered from mcmasters.com (I think). This may be a really retarded thing to ask, but what is a [k26] spring?
p.s. I already reinforced the crap out of the thing.
So it would be a better choice than the [k26]?
oh and what do you mean by "it washes your car for eight bucks"?
Your problem isn't the spring. While you may not have an extremely powerful spring in there, its still of a decent wire thickness and more than strong enough for your applications. Your problem lies elsewhere, most likely in the fact that you're using stock streamlines. When you say it performs like a stock LS, do you mean in range, accuracy, or what?
I use washer stefens too and they do the same thing.
I say that because it sucks range and power wise.

Also, don't get to far in-front of your modding level. I tried that when I first started and ruined lots of guns, and from the looks of this,
The way I plan on putting the dart into the shell i shoved into the lonshot barrel tube -forgot to mention earlier it's from the front gun's extention for the main gun
You're still using stock barrels so you must not have grasped the concept of PETG, Brass, or even CPVC. I wish you the best of luck with this, but don't try to be an overachiever, start out simple.

It looks cool, and seems easy enough to do, but why not just band/bungie cord the gun?
i do this because it just seams more stable and it looks better. and there is nothing wrong with banding/bungie cording the gun

or is it a theory??? i have other nite finders that got the same ranges and then i put a brass barrel on it and it got just under 90ft but it was a arched shotOH SHIT! This doesn't have a barrel replacement! That's like 20-30 more feet! This means that most of mine could, in theory, hit 90ft.
#256253 Nite Finder Dual External Sprigs
Posted by wohnson89 on 14 November 2009 - 01:16 PM in Modifications
on a scale from one to ten on difficulty this is like a point five in my opinion.
i started off by taking the gun apart and sanding down that little piece under the plunger handle.
then you shave the inside screw holes down some so the tension spring will fit in place when the the screws are screwed on.
now place a screw and a lock nut on the other end of the two springs.
To reinforce the plunger you put a washer at the end of the plunger head.
finished gun should look like this:
painted
ranges are
about 50-60 ft
video
I don't know whats up with the sound in the video.
Its kinda crappy quality cause i filmed it on my cell phone because I lost my camera.

I've never liked the appearance of external bungees or banding. Sure, it adds power and all, but I think they make the gun less comfortable and harder to holster/unholster. Therefore, this idea is awesome and the perfect alternative for those people like me that don't want to externally band. Great concept.
Ya before i did this i had like 3 zillion rubber bands on it. it just didn't look good.

Good job thinking of something original (I've never seen it at least). Is there any chance that bolt would slam into the back or your thumb when you shoot, though?
I'm pretty sure that they don't, i did this to another gun + i added a big spring inside and i gave myself blood blister under my fingernail.(but with that shot i did get about 90-100 ft this thing had recoil) it busted the internals to crap. so i desisted to just do the external springs and i got good results.
I like the idea, makes it look much cleaner. Those springs don't look very strong though, how much power do they add?
They add quite a bit, as i said the ranges are in the 50-60ft range so thats a little farther than the 20-30 i was getting with just the AR's removed.

How sturdy is it? I like the idea of just moving the pump so you can have an uber mag l.oaded
its very sturdy as long as you use the high temp glue gun not the low temp one
Are you left handed?

This is what the finished gun looks like
before paint
after paint
[img]http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/4933/dsc02979y.jpg[img]
photo quality is kinda crappy now but you get the picture
Materials:
high temp hot glue gun.(low temp does not work well)
dremel
hack saw
needle nosed pliers
at least 7" of one inch pvc
Start off by taking out all the screws and removing the top cover. Now the gun is open.
oh and p.s. take a flat screw driver to pry off that green peice at the end.

(this is not my picture, i just found it on google image search)
Next we are going to move the the pump over
Move the pump out of the way as not to cut it. Cut it with a dremel or a hack saw and make sure to cut where it says in the picture. Set this peice aside for later.
[/img][img]
Now cut a peice of one inch pvc to form the new pump. It will need to about 7 inches long.
The next part can be put on either the right or left side. I put mine on the right as to provide easy disasembly and access to the internals.
Dremel the peice of plastic around the the back of the pump casing so the new pump can move over.

Next remove the the cap at the end of the pump

It should come off very easily.
Slide the 1" pvc over the pump and hot glue it, as you see in the picture before the last.
Put the inner end cap back on and cut the end peice off of the original pump casing. Cut where it says in the picture.

Now we can move on to the clip.
There are two options for the next step.
1)keep reading mine which goes into less detail
2)folow the link to captian slugs clip modification here- http://nerfhaven.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7433
Ok the next thing is kinda tricky, so the holes are at 45 degree angle to each other and cut exactly how i cut in the pictures.

Take your needle nosed pliers and twist out the air restrictors.
Ok now that we have that out of the way time to do the easiest part, take your dremel and sand down the little green knob at the end of the air blader.

Now re-asemble the whole gun and now we are finished with all the internal stuff.
p.s. it will be tricky cause of the the way the new pumps angle.
Now for the external stuff my speciality!!
Cut the old pump casing in these places:

I forgot to take pictures of this next part, but I'll try to explain them in as much detail as i can.
Turn over the first section where it says magstrike and sand down all the ribs so it will fit around the pvc pipe.
use a genorious amount of hot glue to attach it. hold tight for about 1 min. then atach the next side the same way. Next we will attach the bulky part at the end with more hot glue. it may take a little dremeling to get it to fit.
Now we are all done.
I will try to have a video of it firing soon but i have to fix a leek in the tubes.(unrelated to the moddifing. It was a three year old gun its bound to have leaks.)

There is a video.
For the record I never finished the gun this clip was designed for. There was too many problems I encountered with the design and machining.
For any further questions pm me do not de-rail this thread.
The LS spring is a number of torsion springs in series. I doubt you will find prefabricated springs like that unless you custom order them. However you can just buy a lot of torsion springs and attach the legs together.
Thank you so much both of you. that video helped a lot louiec3. Now it is down to which spring i will use.
