#306219 Would this work re: extended cosmetic barrels

Posted by chavez guy on 19 October 2011 - 11:40 PM in Darts and Barrels

Yes, I agree getting a longer barrel will not get better accuracy.
And it annoys me to no end that some players transplant their Counterstrike or whatever FPS beliefs into a Nerf game.

Dude, it isn't just some videogame fantasy. The idea behind a nerf barrel is that for as long as air (compressed or plunger generated) is pushing on the dart, the dart is in the barrel. But the second the plunger stops moving or the compressed air has all been released, you want there to be no more barrel at that point. So for some guns (HAMPS, big blasts, PASes, +bows, etc.) the absurd ammount of air requires a longer barrel.

Is my explanation making sense to anyone else other than me? Or am I jsut completely off base?

#312905 White lithium grease?

Posted by chavez guy on 15 March 2012 - 06:45 PM in Modifications

Yes, I use it on mine and it works perfectly. O-rings do not corrode.

I use the Lucas Oil stuff in the blue tube from home-depot. But I am assuming all white lithium grease is the same shizz.

I have an idea. Let's all kiss Beaver's ass, and tell him how much he owns us.

By the way, what ever happened to VACC and Talio? Haven't seen them around here for a while.

#321399 Vinyl Tubing Slugs

Posted by chavez guy on 05 September 2012 - 07:06 PM in Darts and Barrels

Out of curiosity, could someone explain to me the need for metal free darts? I feel like I missed a discussion a while back, because all of a sudden there are "metal free dart" posts, and honestly I thought darts with metal were just fine, haha.

That is pretty cool. How fast does the car thingy itself move?

#320184 The Remedy Metal SS Boltsled, a working and produced part

Well apparently I stand corrected.

#320178 The Remedy Metal SS Boltsled, a working and produced part

Posted by chavez guy on 08 August 2012 - 09:59 PM in General Nerf

Does anyone else see the elite blasters making the longshot obsolete soon? They can be modded similarly to how a longshot can in a way that achieves the same ranges, without having to pay $70.

The reason I bring this up, is because if longshots go obsolete, so with longshot boltsleds. And while this is definitely a...shiny...product if nothing else, by the time these are produced enough to lower the cost, the longshot itself will probably be as obsolete as the slide breech is now.

Either way, that is one nice looking boltsled. It is a shame nobody can see it once it is inside the blaster.

#311866 The Magstrike club!

Posted by chavez guy on 25 February 2012 - 11:09 PM in General Nerf

I.....I still don't understand what it is you are trying to tell us.

Edit: Okay I read through this.

It isn't a "stripper clip." It's a piece of orange plastic. That shoots foam.
Furthermore, do you have any proof that your mod actually increased range by 25 feet?

Edit to your edit: Don't compare it to real guns. For one, it isn't really shaped like anything in a real gun as far as I am aware. And comparing your nerf blasters to actual firearms is a habit that gets quickly extinguished around here. So watch out.

Oh and nice magstrike Velveeta. That's pretty tits.

#308957 The Fiendfinder (Full write-up with lots of nice pictures)

Posted by chavez guy on 31 December 2011 - 05:46 PM in Modifications

Any pointers?

If you are gonna use stock darts, just rebarrel it with brass (probably 17/32") or maybe thickwall 1/2" PETG if you can get some. If you are going to use stefans, coupler the plunger tube so you can use CPVC barrels.

#308954 The Fiendfinder (Full write-up with lots of nice pictures)

Posted by chavez guy on 31 December 2011 - 04:30 PM in Modifications

What did you do to increase performance? Air restrictor removal? Or was there something else?

You may want to consider doing a coupler or re-barrel modification, both of which significantly improve range.

#306368 The "Sabot" Dart

Posted by chavez guy on 23 October 2011 - 12:23 PM in Darts and Barrels

This doesn't seem to actually function as a sabot type round. This just looks like another CDTD. A sabot would mean like the darts are too thin for the barrel or something, and then something else behind them is what gets launched, and that thing pushes the darts. As far as I can tell, these don't do that.

#309051 Stefan Directory?

Posted by chavez guy on 03 January 2012 - 01:08 AM in Modifications

There is an old thread in the homemades section I believe titled dartsmithing. That's what your looking for.

Not to be a douche, but it is in the general nerf section, and is stickied. Although you will have to slog through 41 pages of shit to find an occasionally good post. Captain Slug's old slug making guide is buried in there somewhere.

#305124 Stationary Infrared-sensing/ remote-controlled nerf shotgun

Posted by chavez guy on 28 September 2011 - 11:56 PM in Homemades

I don't really get it. Probably because I just skimmed it.

But it has pictures. Therefore it must be true!

Could you explain more how the darts are propelled? I'm not quite understanding this part. I understand they are spring loaded or something, but I am not sure how the party popper part works.

#305136 Stationary Infrared-sensing/ remote-controlled nerf shotgun

Posted by chavez guy on 29 September 2011 - 08:38 AM in Homemades

Sure thing. The motor inside that pvc tube is turned on when the sensor senses someone. That motor then turns the base of a spring powered party popper, which then propels the darts outward 15-20 feet, depending on the angle. I got some of my inspiration for this design from HERE

Ah, I get it. There is some sort of catch mechanism at work, which is disengaged when the motor turns it.
Very cool! I could see these being widely used in some sort of objective game. Or not.

Either way, this is probably the first landmine thread I've seen that doesn't suck. And is actually good. And I have been lurking for a loooooong time.

#313897 Spider Man Dart Tag Blaster

Posted by chavez guy on 02 April 2012 - 08:48 PM in Modifications

I don't see what good plugging your tank will do. But if you insist go right ahead.

Unless you meant plugging the pump.
If this is the case, check the mod directory. Write ups for said blaster exist. However nobody will tell you what ranges YOU will get. You have to figure that out on your own.

Good luck.

#300451 Singling a Longshot?

Posted by chavez guy on 24 June 2011 - 11:41 AM in Modifications

So exactly where do you live that Homie D's doesn't have CPVC? Every one I've ever been to carries it, over by the copper tubing.

I don't want to speak for KoRnEd here, but I live in San Diego, California, and I know for a fact almost none of the hardware stores around here (Home Depot included) carry cpvc. I had to go to some place downtown.

#301612 Semi-auto 2k Prototype-its A Start

Posted by chavez guy on 15 July 2011 - 03:59 PM in Modifications

This thread is probably sick of being risen from the dead.
I'm risking my membership here, but I hope this counts as a legal necro. The second one in this thread.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Basically I have done what Merzlin did, but stick it in a shittily painted mav shell. And I used a 3k tank instead of a 2k tank.

Posted Image

Originally I had tried the whole semi-auto thing by getting the trigger to be always pushing against the magstrike push-release valve, and then the same trigger would be pulled back to release the valve, and pull the 3k pin. I did not succeed in that. I tried having bungies pulling the 3/4" PVC ring on the maverick trigger so that when i wasn't doing anything the valve was being pushed. However It made the trigger pull too hard and I thought something was going to break. So instead I decided to just make it so that I could push forward with my finger until I hear a little "hiss" from the air, and then pull back the release the air in the tank.

Posted Image
Posted Image

In the above photo, there is a shitload of hotglue on the tubing because when I ordered the check valve from McMaster, I got one size too big, so I had to make it fit. Thus the hotglue, and other scraps of titan tubing.

Posted Image
Here is the bladder. There is a check valve between it and the pump because the stock one stopped working. I also figured banding it would be good because if there is more pressure on the air in the bladder, there is more pressure putting air into the tank. Therefore, more air goes into tank and ability to cause welts is increased. Theoretically.

Posted Image
Here is another photo of all the internals.
Before anyone asks, I have not officially range tested. This is for two reasons. I don't have a long tape measurer thingy, and all my stefans suck shit. When I buy some of Angel's beige stuff I'll have better stuff to shoot from this. And yes, I tried a hopper. Even with Brit's guide thing inside it wont feed properly. So an RSCB works fine.
I hope this has somewhat contributed to the work already done here, and I'm sure someone more experienced could make something truly semi-auto out of what has been done here. I know just yesterday Banshee posted something virtually identical to what I am showing in this post, and I would like to say 2 things. One, Banshee did a better job than I did on this if he is getting 100' with streamlines, and that I had no prior knowledge of his work, as he probably had no prior knowledge of mine.

If this is not a legal necro, admins, please let me know.

#309081 San Diego Nerfers?

Posted by chavez guy on 03 January 2012 - 06:50 PM in Nerf Wars

Are there any other nerfers here in sunny San Diego? Are there any wars that happen here regularly or semi regularly? I researched old war threads and it seems that there hasn't been a SDNO since I was in elementary school. I just want to know if there is a substantial nerf community here I am not aware of.

If I am violating some sort of rule, let me know.

Edit: If you live anywhere near SD that counts too. A buddy of mine said there is an HvZ thing at SDSU, so I'm sure there are some nerfers in the area.

I love /r/AskHistorians!

On topic though, most of the (good) stuff you would find on /r/nerf exists here in the mod/pj thread or wars forum. As much as I love Reddit, that particular subreddit isn't really anything special.

#326974 Reddit.

Posted by chavez guy on 18 February 2013 - 04:09 PM in Off Topic

'Tis true, NH needs to develop some fort of way to better filter results based on "good or bad" responses.

I think that is the complete opposite of what he is saying. Beaver is arguing that the upvote/downvote system is actually detrimental to finding good content.
Plus, the system we have here is perfectly fine in my opinion. If it follows the rules and shares new information, then the mods and admins leave it alone. If it doesn't, it gets locked. Seems fine to me.

#308961 Quick Question about Unscrewing Blasters

Posted by chavez guy on 31 December 2011 - 08:26 PM in Modifications

Going along with what Exo said, if you can be disciplined enough to only do one or two project(s) at a time and get everything done before closing up the blaster, then you are in good shape.
As far as screwdrivers I used to use an electric one, but it kept stripping my screws and it was too big. Just get a set of manual ones with big fat beefy comfy rubber/plastic grips.

I don't see why Ozymandias crossed out his post, but that is actually what I was gonna say. 2 inches is really short.

Although an RSCB on a nitefinder doesn't seem like it would too well anyways. Try an inline clip.

#314982 Plunger Seals and Lube

Posted by chavez guy on 29 April 2012 - 06:32 PM in Modifications

I use lithium grease from the brand Lucas Oil. It has been working perfectly fine for me for like 6 months now. No corrosion or anything. It comes in a blue tube, and I got it at home depot.

#307717 Payload Game Type

Posted by chavez guy on 23 November 2011 - 10:50 PM in General Nerf

At first I thought this sounded pretty stupid. But I thought about it more, and it seems pretty damn cool. It sounds like (terrain providing) this could be played with outdoor century mark-hitting blasters, or with HvZ close range type ones (think N-strike) provided everyone has similar armaments. And as long as everyone knows to pull with their legs, not their back, injury sounds just as feasible as with any other nerf war.

#307050 PAS Plunger Rod and Priming Rod Repair

Posted by chavez guy on 06 November 2011 - 08:46 PM in Modifications

you might want to include the full name of the blaster you are modding: Ertl Pump action shotgun in your post, no just your n00bs to understand, but so other people can find your repair post

also good write up

Dude, this guy runs the modification directory. Chances are he is going to stick this in there (if he hasn't already) for everyone to find.

#303454 Orange Mod Works Kit Reviews

Dude, aluminium is one of the lightest metals, haha.

#321302 Optimized Mad Ghost!

Posted by chavez guy on 01 September 2012 - 10:05 AM in Homemades

Oh, duh. That seems obvious in retrospect, especially since he was referring to the mad ghost . I was imagining glue domes wrapped in E-tape until they fit in PVC.

#321297 Optimized Mad Ghost!

Posted by chavez guy on 01 September 2012 - 12:49 AM in Homemades

Host your picture on an internet hosting site, and use that URL. It cannot link to your computer. Try imgur.com, flickr.com, and photobucket.com for image hosting.

And out of curiosity, what do you mean by "electrical tape darts"? I have a feeling that wrapping your darts in e-tape may be causing a loss in range.

#304508 No Time to Nerf

I always liked your work CS. Enjoy your wife, house and job.
It isn't like someone can nerf for their whole lives (realistically) so I am glad to see you have contributed so many amazing things to the community before you left.
Just one question. Will you still be moderating and/or posting on the forums?

#305882 [Suggestion] New Member policy

Posted by chavez guy on 14 October 2011 - 09:08 PM in Site Feedback

This site has been around for nearly a decade. I don't want to speak specifically for the admins, but I'm pretty sure they have tried all sorts of things that didn't work as well as the current system. For examply, the previous one took ages to get validated (months for some people). I was an FNG and now I am a regular member. You aren't gonna be an FNG forever, so just get over yourself and suck it up. Nothing says you have to post 8 times a day to be a real member.

#303492 [Help] Stampede mod gone wrong?

Posted by chavez guy on 18 August 2011 - 12:28 PM in Modifications

I don't know if this is relevant, but I had a dream about this thread. And in my dream I found the solution. But in my dream stampedes were reverse plunger or some shit. But even still, in my dream you had to big of an O ring. If that isn't the problem, there isn't really much else I can say, haha.
