That dart tooth, annoying as it is, is necessary. Unless you want to spend your time doing a lot of un-jamming, leave it in. You can, however, remove the clip lock. (Long orange piece that slides perpendicular to the plunger.) Mine's gone and it works fine.
My LS bolt sled was starting to show stress marks in the plastic, so I reinforced it with JB Weld. You could try super glue to fix the break, and a thin layer of JB Weld over it. Mostly on the inside so it will not interfere with the rest of the parts.
