There is only one in existence, but it bears a terrible curse. For as long as you own it, you will be the first one tagged in every round of 3/15. Everyone who has owned it has eventually returned it to the same thrift store. The employees just shake their heads and place it in the toy section for another unwary fool to find. How long will you last before you, too, succumb to the curse?

#358929 Bulk mags
Posted by ToadBrews on 30 March 2017 - 10:31 PM
Well thanks for the unending support toad, have a great next war too and if you want to how one try running into the same problems I have and get back to me.
I have run three wars, most of which had over 30 people of varying ages, nerf experience, and enthusiasm, some with very little budget. I will say to you again, from experience, it is not your job as host to make sure everyone who shows up has a gear loadout that you think is optimal. Most of the people coming should be bringing their own blasters, and the available loaners for people who don't should not be magazine fed, especially not fed from cheapo magazines that don't correctly fit or feed. If you want advice on running a war, I am happy to tell you everything I know and I am sure plenty of other people would be as well. If you want me to tell you you're making great decisions by buying bulk mags to use in loaners, that's not going to happen. That wouldn't be support, that would be me lying to you and encouraging you to waste your money. People will come to wars with a jolt and have fun. Fun is what you should be going for here. You're not training elite nerf teams for Endwar or a trip to the SENC. You're having a fun event for mostly non-competitive nerfers to benefit a dying friend. You would probably be better off banning magazine fed blasters rather than trying to ensure there are enough for everyone.

#357858 Good wills and Thrift stores in New York City

You have a massive sense of entitlement and you expect everyone else to do your research for you. Neither of those will help you get ahead in this hobby, or in life. It's hilarious you're upset a random goodwill employee didn't know how much a legendfire costs when you, someone who has an interest in foam blasters, also had no idea. No one forced you to make a bad purchase. Nobody ripped you off. You picked up an item with a price tag on it, the cashier charged you the amount on the price tag, and you took the item home. Then when they gave you a store credit to make up the difference (something which was a courtesy to you and theynhave no legal or ethical obligation to do) you went on the internet and racially profiled them and called the manager a bitch. The problem here is you.

#357790 Good nerf gear site

I want a holster that does not use a belt and just velcros around my leg/thigh or something.
Thigh holsters rely on a belt to not slip down your leg and tangle up your foot. You could probably replace the belt loop with clips that hook into the top of your pants/shorts though. Apex Tactical makes several models of thigh holster and is based in the US. I just ordered some stuff from them and they shipped it the next day, so as long as you are in the lower 48 and order something they have marked as in stock it should only take a week or so to arrive.

Alternately you could just buy the nerf brand zombie strike holster from amazon or whatever, it's low quality but easy to get and will fit different models, most custom gear is suited for a single model of blaster so the nerf brand one is perhaps better if you want to be able to switch between EG a Hammershot or a Stryfe for different game modes without switching holsters.

#357670 Koosh Vortex Tornado Scans (Now a shell replica concept thread)

No, you actually necro'd this thread.
Companies don't just rent out their intellectual property to consumers. If they were to sell
(that's if they still had these molds) the original design to a consumer, it'd have to be for good reason, and very expensive. No company does that to avoid tarnishing their brand.
Companies contract out their intellectual property all the time. I don't know about toys, but it's standard practice in the entertainment industry. Most of the time it is very expensive, yes, but I would imagine that production molds for discontinued toys would be much less valuable than, EG, the film rights to the X-men. If spending fifty thousand dollars to reverse engineer the molds is up for discussion, who not discuss spending a similar amount to try and use the originals?
I wasn't saying that some random person should just take the initiative to call up and say "Hey I'm Dave can I give you $200 to use your old factory for an hour?" but more along the lines of "Hello, I represent a newly formed LLC that is interested in acquiring licensing and production rights to one of your discontinued product lines, would you be interested in looking at our business plan and discussing the disposition of any tooling or molds you may still have in inventory?"
Sorry if this comes off adversarial, I'm just trying to elaborate on my thought processes.

Glad somebody else had necro'd this so I can post. I'm just gonna put on my crazy hat for a moment here....
Has anyone considered contacting the companies and seeing if the original crossbow/tornado molds are extant and if we could just....buy them? Or rent them?

#357632 Nerf prices skyrocket
Posted by ToadBrews on 20 January 2017 - 07:43 PM
This is due to the holidays. The way Amazon works is that many different sellers sell products there, and they all have different prices. All of the blasters that were under MSRP got sold first to be given as Christmas gifts. Then the blasters at around MSRP got bought up by people with gift cards they got for Christmas. Now all that's left is a bunch of overpriced blasters. But this isn't a case of prices being raised, those blasters were always for sale at that price. The reason you're seeing them now is because now they're the cheapest available. As the lower-priced vendors get their inventory replenished, prices will settle back to where they were, and in a few weeks or months you will see things like $35 dollar Tri-Strikes and Zeus's again as reputable vendors once again compete for sales.
My recommendation to you is, instead of buying from Amazon, go to physical retailers and check for clearance items. I scored a $35 Mastodon from Wal-Mart, and while that's better than expected, it's indicative of just how good deals can be if you can find time to do footwork. You should also check thrift stores, as little kids who got blasters for Christmas will soon start losing magazines, misunderstanding trigger locks, and running out of ammo which sends the blasters straight to Goodwill. Good luck and happy bargain hunting.
