Looking for good Stryfe motors!

26 June 2015 - 12:06 PM

[To whom it may concern: This is somewhat of a repost of this post I made in late April. This post includes some more detailed information, and is also in hopes that some new options may be available in terms of buying motors (new confirmed motors, new ebay listings, etc.)]

Hey guys, I'm looking for some replacement motors for my strife. To get to the point, here's a quick rundown of the relevant mods that have been done so far and some criteria for the motors.
- Thermistor, Jam Door Lock, and Magazine Lock removed. (Mechanical locks also removed.)
- Whole blaster has been rewired, including the resisters between the motors.
- Motors are some (rookie mistake) RM2s that I have burned through. No longer have the stock motors.
- I have lightly sanded the flywheels for less dart slip.
- Need to run batteries through stock tray.
- Running Efest 14500 IMRs (3.7V each) with dummy batteries, and can do any combination of them. (I have 4 IMRs and 4 dummy batteries.)
- Running the stock rev trigger, but replacing that if necessary would be fine.
- Open to shell cutting for some 180 motors, but would prefer 130s if possible.
- Looking for performance, but something that will last. (Giving this one to a friend, don't want anything not working for a long time.)
- Price isn't really a concern, but I'm going to be smart with it. I not paying $30 for something that is slightly better then stock motors, when I can just buy another stryfe for $20.

If anyone could suggest some motors that would be great. I'm in Canada if that changes anything, but I should be able to get almost anything. Links would be appreciated cause getting scammed sucks.
Thanks!

Appropriate 180 Motors w/ Efest IMRs?

25 April 2015 - 10:40 PM

Hey guys,
I have a modded stryfe. All locks (mechanical and electronic) removed, trigger greased, higher voltage, lightly sanded flywheels, and because of an uneducated rookie mistake, RM2s.
I am currently running 2 Efest 14500 IMR batteries w/ 2 blank batteries in the stock battery tray. As you could guess, my RM2s aren't doing so hot, or in this case they are way too hot. I am burning them out. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good 180 motors for my current voltage, which is essentially 7.4V. I don't want any burning smells, I don't want any problems. I want reliable motors.
I'm not looking to move to lipos right now, however, I have 4 of these IMR's total, and am not using the other two for anything. I'd much prefer to only run 2 IMRs at once, so I can have two sets. (Two draining, two charging.)
Thanks for your help.

[EDIT] I have since moved this conversation here, with a lot more detailed information

Best Efest IMR Battery?

06 March 2015 - 06:07 PM

I have recently been looking for some nice batteries, and I was told the Efest IMRs are where it's at. I just have a couple of questions on the batteries themselves and the various (lots of) models.
Quick note: I will be running these in a modded strife. I need to keep the stock battery tray. Right now I have some RM2s that I know I will burn out, and will be getting some nice 180s when that happens.

- Plain and simple, is there a "best" Efest IMR that fits a AA battery tray? Voltage is not concern because of the strife's 4 battery tray, but in terms of capacity, amperage, flat top vs not, etc.
- If not what are my best options?
- How many should I be running? Example, its generally suggested you run no more then 3 trustfires. Surely it depends on the motor, so how many for your "general" 180 motor?
- Are the Efest chargers the best? Or is there a cheaper/better for the money alternative?

Thanks for your guys' reply, I appreciate your help. Sorry for any obvious/stupid questions. Also, if any Canadians could recommend a site to buy said batteries, that would be very much appreciated.

Buying Batteries (Trustfires/Ultrafires) in Canada

01 March 2015 - 09:25 PM

Hello Nerf Haven,
I have done all the basic mods to my strife (taken out electronic/mechanical locks and rewired) as well as replaced the stock motors with the Solarbotic's RM2s (This was a while ago, I realize now that it was a possible waste of money.)
I am now looking to buy the standard ultrafires/trustfires to up the voltage. I'm in Canada, so because of weird rules/lack of website support/Canadian import taxes that I'm definitely not an expert on, I (think) I need to order them from ebay.ca or amazon.ca. I have tried ordering a couple before but long story short I didn't receive them. There is also a lot of fake ultrafires that are being sold.

I came to ask my fellow Canadian's if they could give me a link(s) in order to buy 6 ultrafires/trustfires with a charger, and a dummy battery.

I would prefer for these to be tested sellers so I don't get scammed again. The number of batteries the charger supports doesn't concern me, I just need the correct batteries (size/voltage/capacity) in order to run in my stock AA battery tray.
Your help is very much appreciated.
Thanks, eh?

Stryfe Motor Replacement Disappointment

20 September 2014 - 11:58 PM

Hey everyone, I'm brand new here so apologies in advance for anything I do wrong.

Anyways, about a month ago I was inspired to buy and mod a stryfe. I have some modding experience with spring blasters, but this was my first flywheel attempt.
Among other mods, I replaced the motors with the RM2's from Solarbotics (These) and found very little gain in terms of dart distance. I was wondering if I did something wrong, or if my motors are bad, or if the gains are only really significant if you have higher voltage.
I have listed the mods and included some media so if there is any troubleshooting needed maybe they can help you out. They may be unnecessary, but better safe then sorry.
Finally, if everything is fine, what would be the next step to upgrading this blaster considering the mods I have already done?

MODS
Dart Lock, Trigger Lock, and Magazine Lock Removed
Thermistor, Jam Door Lock, Magazine Lock (Electrical), and Motor Resistors Removed
Blaster Rewired
Trigger Mod (Remove piece of trigger to be able to pull the trigger all the way without activating the rev trigger)
Trigger Mech Lubed
Electrical Tape Added to Flywheels (1 layer)

Note: I'm running on 4 Duracell Quantum Batteries (I believe they are standard alkalines)

Wiring: White wire goes from battery pack to rev trigger, blue continues and then is soldered to the red which continues to motors, then the black comes back to the battery pack to complete the circuit.

Video of the flywheels running. (The weird directional vibrations is from the flywheels being unbalanced because of the electrical tape)

One last thing is that I have the burning "motors running" smell even though I am running stock voltage.
Anyways, thanks for your guys help in advance, and I hope onced this is solved it can help someone else.
