Over the past couple months I've noticed s significant number of threads, asking "what gun should I get?". This thread is more or less a thread in which people ask "What gun should I get?", and people give their recomendations.

First I'll give the rules:

1. You can't just ask "What's a good gun?". You have to say the intended use of it, Such as "I'm looking for a good gun with decent ROF, and would be used primarily outside. What's a good gun that fit's this catagory?"

2. You must say if you want to use it for a primary, or a sidearm.

3. You can also ask questions about good modding materials, and where to get them.

4. Unless you know where to find the guns, it is suggested you ask where to find them in your post.

5. Asking the question about "which gun is better" is also allowed.

Lets get started!

Edit: I like the way this guy thinks. But if you have any questions, you know where to come to.

If this kind of thread isn't against the rules in the code of conduct, it is sternly looked down upon.

Most guns will be good, pick one and find out if you like it.

Alice came to the fork in the road.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

I'm not sure this is going to go over well with the higher-ups. The "What gun should I get" threads are something we want to avoid, if at all possible. Any new member should use the search button and read some posts before starting a topic, and find the answers themselves. By simply browsing through a handful of posts, it is possible for them to learn which weapons are better in which situations, all the information on operating the weapon, usually where they can find it (I fear the day when someone asks where to get a Nite Finder), ranges both modded and stock, a plethora of modification options, and plenty of other important information. This also frees up the front page of the General Nerf forum for other topics and encourages the use of the search feature, which is there for just this purpose.

If you are a new user looking for a gun, try something cheap. If you want to mod it, start with the basic Nite Finder. If you are looking for something a little less simple, browse through the modification directory to get both a description of the gun and information on how to modify it, its ranges, and usually a rough price range and supplier name.

I think this thread is a good idea, and should be stickied. If anyone makes a thread like this just link them here. This method works really well on PBNation, which has in excess of 300,000 members, lots of whom are thicker than some found here.
Not that I'd need help, but I'll start to get the ball rolling.

I'm looking for a new gun, that would be fun and challenging to mod. I will use it as an indoor/outdoor primary, so I want good ROF, and to be compact as possible still with range to hold off rushers.

Alright, I'll bite. Try the ABBB. Breaches are always fun, and the range and accuracy are very good. If not that, then try a DTG with brass barrels to hit 50-60'. Not as much of a challenge, but it's an option.

Yay for Biting! At any rate I second the Abbb. A No chain Chain Blazer would also do.

Not trying to hijack the thread or anything but I've been working on this for a little while.
This spreadsheet has helped my friends decide which guns to get and learn what they will be up against.
Its an excel file with just about every foam shooting gun and its stats.
I've been meaning to release it in its own thread but this seems like as good a time as any.
Its not complete but it has allot.
I can update it as people request and when new guns come out.
Here you go Skitzo's Nerf Gun Information Guide

I'm open to any suggestions.
The prices and ranges are probably off but, people who actually have the guns can give me more accurate stats, please tell me about any mistakes via PM.

I can also add specifically modified guns if it comes to that.

Skitzo-

Your spread sheet was a very good idea, but alot of new nerfers like input from more than one person. You're just helping me in doing the whole purpose of this thread: Significantly reducing the threads asking advice on what nerf gun they should get, and asking questions about nerf guns. So keeping this in mind, I'd like to thank you Skitzo, for contributing.

Ive been thinking I need a strong primary with multiple barrels and a decent rate of fire...can be semi auto/single shot.

Edit.

I will be indoors and using micros are preferred.

Try a 3k, six barrels is quite a bit, it can get up to 80 feet, and takes just a couple of pumps.

Yeah skitzo, that spreadsheet seems pretty useful, but I did notice that you put 10 pumps for an at3k... that's waaaaay too many. I'd stick to 4 or 5 max.

I think what Penguin might have been trying to make is a "quarantine" for these posts. Rather than clogging our forums with new topics, it'll be a nice break to just see new posts appear in this topic.

I know what he is doing, but barely anyone is using it, and not everyone will. Why? Because noobs are noobs. They don't (generally) search, but post immediately and think that we will take pity and help them because of their low experience. It's a good effort, but it will never be realized to its full potential.

Lynx: Try using a Dart Tag gun. Modded, it will reach 50+ feet and has ten barrels. It operates like a superior version of a Maverick, and they're quite reliable indoors.

That should attract noobies!

Thank you for the suggestion. I can't wait until I have a LITTLE more $ so I can buy it maybe.

You've got the gun. Learn to read the stickies, you might see this. That will answer your question.

The purpose of this topic is to service lazy noobs. Any people who actually ask a question like that in this topic are dangerously close to being in that category. I've seen you post non-lazynoobish stuff, please don't stop.

I'm looking for a gun with decent range, good accuracy, and a comfortable grip.
If possible, I would like it to still be on shelves.
EDIT: Wow. Thanks for the replies. I forgot to say, I nerf outdoors with stefans, and I've already got 7 Nitefinders.

DTG. Brassed, pteged, or cpvced, it's great for indoors. And if you have a longshot, you can do the most intimidating integration ever

Modded DTGs (it's really not that hard, it's basically an NF with ten barrels) are one of the best weapons for CQB and medium-range shots. They have a high ROF, and are very reliable, provided you don't screw up the spring or rotation mech accidentally while the gun is open. You won't normally have to mess with the rotation mech, though.

I'd say definitely the Big bad bow (BBB). No matter how strong of a spring you put in it, it will always be easy to cock just by the nature of the gun. Easy to mod, can do lots with it. Good luck!
