I still have the stock barrel in mine and have had very little fishtailing with CDTD's. Maybe 1 in 7 spins out but that's more because it was a rush dart job than anything else.

Carrtoon, I was wondering if it would be possible for you to crack open one of those magazines?
I'd like to see the type of spring and such with eyes.

And and also, out of curiosity, the distance from the magazine well to the front of the gun?

I know this is all asking so much but I would really, really appreciate all of it.
You've been a star.

-Tidge.

Distance from Front of Gun to Front of Magazine Well [without 2nd Gun attachment] = about 9.25 inches
Distance from Front of Gun to Back of Magazine Well [without 2nd Gun attachment] = about 12.5 inches
Distance from Front of Gun to Front of Magazine Well [with attachment] = about 21.25 inches
Distance from Front of Gun to Back of Magazine Well [with attachment] = about 24.5 inches

[measurements may be off by 1/8th of an inch or so]

I tried Suplementing the stock spring with a half spring from Boltsniper's FAR. (i ordered 3 in hopes of making one... never got around to doing it) and it will not stay cocked with that in there. It will go back far enough to cock. but it will not stay there for more than the time it takes me to move my hand from the bolt, to the trigger.

Tried a Nitefinder spring next. didnt add much strength, and made a shitload of noise. more of a pain than a help.

SO i'm just using the Stock spring and i average out at about 50' Not bad for just a restrictor removal.

Ok, this replacement really, really helped. I use the stock darts with 2 bbs jammed in the hole in the tip and then seal them in with hot glue. I'm hitting 110' flat almost every shot. I'm not sure if stefans will be better now.

It seems that lots of people are having problems with the BBB spring catching. I too had this problem. At first, it fired well and didn't loose grip at all. Then is slipped and didn't catch. I then chopped off about 3 rings from the BBB spring and it works great again.

Tidge, here is a video showing you the clip insides:

Magazine guts

I could not get the magazine opened because it's welded shut <_< . I decided to show you a video of how it works because pictures just don't show the depth. Hope this clears up any questions you may have had. I do think it's possible to trim down the yellow part in the magazine to fit 8 darts. You'd have to cut the plastic pieces that are welded on the magazine, but it's very do-able.

Ronster, replacing the barrel does not cure the fishtailing. New darts do. The hole in the front of the darts causes the fishtail. Using converted or plugged darts fixes this.

Any other questions? I leave for Sacramento tomorrow...

Last question; You said when you cut down the BBB spring. Are you JUST using the BBB spring now? Or still using both?

Ask as many as you want. I'm using both the BBB spring and the Lonshot spring and I wouldn't go back. The power is worth the risk!

What's the rating on the added BBB spring? I'd like to have more than just this NF spring if it will help the power when it's cut down.

It's offical. This is the new and improved Crossbow. Now, Like in Ragornocks's Crossbow mod, we should probably find a way to reinforce all the different pieces that have a risk of being snapped into even more pieces. Minimization sounds o.k., too.

Just seems kind of scary... While I'm all for testing a gun's limits, I'm not for testing OVER its limits. If you're putting in both springs, I do ask you to be careful; putting too much power in a gun that isn't designed to handle it may lead to some injuries. So don't do anything stupid. If anyone remembers the Maxshot episodes... Yeah that was interesting. I recall someone getting flying plastic stuck in their skin.

Questions for Carrtoon:
1) How long of a barrel did you add? It looks to be the standard 12" from the pics but I can't be sure. Do you think the gun is benefiting more from the longer barrel or the better air seal (in your opinion)?
2) Have you had any problem with darts sliding forward in the barrel since removing that orange nub/catch thing?
3) I'm trying to get some PETG but how durable is the plastic you're using? I'm just afraid of that barrel getting crushed in the middle of a game. Normally, if it were brass, I'd just slide some PVC over top of it but the gun's front heavy enough as it is.

It looks like I may have to pick up a second one of these sooner than I thought.

Thanks!

Hehe. Maybe we've figured out a new nerf grenade; shooting flying plastic pieces of your plunger from a strong spring.

I'm not quite sure how long the barrel is. It sticks out of the end about 2 inches, but I'll check when grab my Longshot. I believe the range is coming from a better seal between the breech and the barrel. Don't get me wrong, you need a longer barrel, but the seal is even more important.

I haven't had problems with misfiring yet. The barrel stops the dart until the dart can't be moved back any further. It is then forced into the PETG.

The PETG is fairly fragile. I was trimming down the inside of the material and it chipped a piece out. You could just encase the barrel in the gun to prevent cracking. I was just too buisy, (lazy) to do so.

Extra springs are nice but I'd rather not have my 35 dollar gun blow up just for some extra distance ;0

Anywho, I just removed the restrictor like in the tutorial but kept the stock nerf pin since I plan on only using stock rounds.

The only problem I got like many others, is that even though my gun can shoot about 50', the rounds are veering off to the sides like no tomorrow.

Guess anyone that wants to HIT anything from a distance with this gun is going to want to install a barrel more than anything ;0

I noticed you mentioned that you can shoot dart tag darts out of that barrel. Do they work in the clip? What kind of range/accuracy do you get with them?

It shoots my tagger, converted, and small 1/2" stefan darts quite well.

AsssassinNF,

I think that was a mis-type. It can't fire stock dart-tag darts. I don't think that was supposed to be a comma between 'tagger' and 'converted'. Although, maybe if you ram-rodded them down the stock barrel and into the chamber it'd work, but you cannot load them through the magazine.

EDIT: No... I think you might be right! Carrtoon said several times through-out his barrel-replacement post 'converted darts, and stock darts'. Well, maybe it CAN shoot stock darts with the barrel he put in, the the magazine won't hold stock darts. So, I suppose if you want to use stock darts (And I can't see why you would want to), you'd have to load each one by hand.

I believe the "converted darts" were the CDTS's we've discussed, and the "stock darts" referred to the streamlined darts that are designed for the gun.

Has anyone else had a weird problem with the magazine loading/breech interaction?

I picked up my Longshot last night, but was too tired to work on it. After I opened it up this morning, thinking it'd be a fairly simple restrictor removal/spring replacement, it stopped working. I had just finished putting the last screw in, I hear a little *pop*. Not a big thud, just a little tiny *pop*. I open the breech, and put the magazine in, thinking nothing of the noise, and discover the magazine won't insert properly. It seems like the breech wasn't being opened far enough, and the part of the magazine that holds the dart during loading was catching on the prong of the breech. I took the magazine out, and tried it again. No luck.

I took the thing apart, look around, and everything seems fine. I put it back together, and try it again. It works for one magazine. When I took the magazine out to reload it the same problem happens.

Right now I have it disassembled, and I have no idea what's even wrong. It would seem that the breech isn't opening far enough to allow the magazine in. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have no idea how it would be caused, let alone fixed.

The gun is priming properly, so it's not that the plunger isn't catching...

Anyone have a diagnosis?

If one of them works, and not the other, It could be (but robably not) a problem with the magazine. I'd try the mag that works for a full 2 clips. If it works both times, and not for the other clip, than it could very well be a magazing problem. But untill i get to see some internal pics, i cant effectively diagnose the problem.

Good Luck :)

I fixed it now.

It turns out that the breech wasn't opening fully, so the magazine wasn't inserting far enough for the magazine catch to engage. I didn't screw the 'endcap' like thing on the end of the plunger in far enough, so when the plunger was engaging, there was a space for the spring to expand, which caused the breech to get pushed forward a bit even though the plunger engaged correctly.

I fixed it by sawing off a 1/4" of the BBB spring so that it fits better in the plunger tube. I also made sure I had the endcap securely on.

It seems to be fixed for now. And echo: it wasn't just one magazine that was doing it. When I would put it back together, it would take either magazine. But once I took that magazine out again, it wouldn't take either.

So, if anyone else has this problem, check the endcap, and maybe cut the spring a bit.

Well here is my mod of the longshot, same thing as other people, but instead of a longshot spring I used the Home Depot spring (same one as the one used for NF spring replacement mods). I cut about 4 loops off of the spring and still it is very hard to cock with one hand (Feel the muscle burn, and no I am not weak).

The other thing that I did different is the barrel, I used the barrel from the the front gun (I removed it as per the Longshot Front Gun Mod) I haven't tested it for ranges (still working on the dart mods) but it works quite well indoors.

First, I dont care how it performs, SPU that barrel mod looks badass.

That out of the way, Ive seen complaints about the little hole in the new streamline ammo. Has anyone tried plugging the hole? Maybe with some model cement, the ones with the tiny tubes for precise application? This could even be done after pushing a fishing weight or somn through the hole, though centering it would be a pain.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned a rifled barrel. Help the newb here, isnt the stock barrel already rifled?

Anyway, Ive got mine sitting open right now, gonna go score at least another Oring, maybe a new spring for it.

A suggestion to anyone poking around inside this thing... lube goes everywhere, and this is normally a good thing but it would be a good idea to wipe the plunger endcap and plunger catch free of ulbe while reassembling it. This might help some of the reported problems on the gun not being able to hold a cock.

Sorry, could not help myself. Anyway, back to the subject. That barrel looks badass and good job for beating me to it, at least I know what my rifle will look like now. So thanks.
