This has to be awesome then.
Not in the game anymore, but it was great while it lasted. Thanks for the great years of fun, NH!

Won't be as visually appealing, but will function pretty much the same way. I'm currently trying to make the paper templates for the dart hopper hole I will need to cut in the side of the shell. The CAD software is being extremely help for this because I can turn circumference numbers into measurement templates cut out of posterboard. That's how I managed to make the cut needed for the plunger track.
So many things left to do before I can actually test the gun.
1. Cut the dart inlet
2. Cut the breech track
3. I need to go lathe some stoppers at the machine shop to insert inbetween the lip inside bushings and the 1/2" PVC that will act as stoppers for darts, and semi-seals for the brass barrels.
4. Cut some plate spacers out of 1/2" PETG tubing
5. Mill or jigsaw the breech holes
6. Make the spine/frame to hold the shells and axle
7. Make the motor mount plate
8. Wire the motor
I wish I didn't have homework to do this week...

Very, very nice. My brother was going to make one of these that shot airsoft BBs, but it would've cost him more than $300, seeing as he would have to buy special parts such as barrels, and not to mention odds are it wouldn't work for weeks, if not months.
Great to see its coming along, can't wait to get some online vids of this thing firing.
I'm not sure I get why the joystick handle is upside down onthe top of your cshg, though.... Shouldn't it be on the bottom?
As for your motor problem, once again I am going to suggest considering a crank. It might be alot of work to cock back two high powered springs at once, but simply making the crank metal and VERY LONG will reduce the amount of strength you need to use the gun. It might reduce ROF slightly, but I think its worth not having a completely sore arm after every battle with this gun... That is the role of your shoulder!

Miniguns often have grips like that. That's just the way it is.
Although I must say it was cooler as a shoulder-fired weapon.

That explains it!
What are you thinking, cap'n slug?? Shoulder fired would be the best, you could even add a pvc pipe "scope" to the side (a tube with two sets of crosshairs inside would be cheap & a good aimer, and easy to zero in without constantly regluing).

The final gun will be only a little bit longer than my arm and I am giving serious consideration to the idea that GeneralPrimevil posted about being able to strap it to my arm. Whether or not I do that will depend on the weight.

This is exciting, another amazing, quality, experimental, nerf weapon hits the block and is being built. You've got a really amazing ablility to turn stuff out; with the jackhammer (the title of which this may need to steal) and this, both designed and redesigned all on the computer. This one is already being built... Man. What program did you use for your designs again?

pfft!My current plan is for it to be both,
atleast in an optional sense. I'm going to make a frame for the inside of the joystick to reinforce it and to make it possible for it to be moved between hardpoints on the top-rear of the gun and the front underside.
Why not just make it made to go on your shoulder, its simpler and could easily be made to a turret should you get a bipod for the front of the gun... Or a tripod, if you really want to be fancy

Hrm... Promise me that if you ever build a second one, you will add that feature and go rambo for AT LEAST ONE GAME.

1. Only if it turns out that I need one. It's best that I not put too much thought about where to put the grips until I have the gun working and can figure out the best placements for my hands.1. Were you going to add the extra side handle for this beast?
2. What program did you use for your designs again?
2. Alibre Xpress, which is free. http://www.alibre.com/xpress/
1. Because I like having options. Shoulder-mounting gives a more comfortable working configuration, but results in a big blind spot and having the grip in the rear of the gun would make mounting the gun on a stationary pivot easier.1. Why not just make it made to go on your shoulder
2. Hrm... Promise me that if you ever build a second one, you will add that feature and go rambo for AT LEAST ONE GAME.
2. I don't have any current plans to make a second. It's costing $120 in materials already and I need to save some cash for when I can get back to my computer project.
Plus this thing will probably go through stefans like mad so having more than one would just be for giggles.
I'm currently working on editing a 25-page paper for a class, getting two presentations ready, and I'm going to be on a trip during half of next week. So me getting anything done on this in the next two weeks is unlikely. If I do it will be really small stuff inbetween all the other things I need to be doing.
This makes me sound like a tease, but It's just my way of teaching all of you patience.

No kidding!!!You Better get some Video of that badboy in action once it's done.
Do you have a way to do that?? If not, make sure to start researching that in addition to building the gun.
And remember, if you don't get a video within ten minutes of its completetion... Well... lets just all look at this smiley scene here:
1. O_o

The motor, battery, and toggle switch arrived. The battery is a hefty 15 pounds on it's own.

Ouch. That's very heavy!I have two different digital cameras that can record short video clips so that's not an issue. The issue is getting the gun built and working. hehe

You needed that big of a battery for this thing? The motor must need some serious power.

That is so awesome. This way, little panzie people will not be able to carry it, and allow you to become the sole user. Like the mythical bow of Odysiuss (sp?) I think. That thing sounds (and from what I've seen, looks) awesome, I hope it works well when it's finished. The battery is a hefty 15 pounds on it's own.

I just finished editing a 36 page paper which is due tomorrow. I also have a trip scheduled for this week (Thursday to Sunday) and two presentations I need to get ready before Monday the 24th and Wednesday 26th. I won't have any free time until after the presentation on the 26th.come on let us see it finished
The next parts I need to make will require more work on the lathe.
