Yes davis, you will lose your current unit, it happened to me when I switched. Alright, thanks cxwq, I'll change that on one of em.

I had something very strange happen yesterday. While testing some scripting changes on battlefield vietnam I had BFV crash a few times due to some changes in the mutt's coding. What I didn't know was that each time it crashed it caused an error in F@H and deleted my current work units and got new ones. This really pissed me off as I was almost done with one of my units. So, now I have some very large ones, and won't be putting up any points for 3-4 days.

First off let's welcome LDM as the newest member of the team!

In the top spots we have quasar slipping past baelnorn into #2 and Shinny slowly gaining and making it a true 3-man race. Other notable movers include Andrew_01 pulling into 7th, Viper moving up to 11th, thehaze into 12th, and Davis into 15th. There are now 22 members with over a thousand points contributed, congratulations!

Extreme OC now puts us in 1,246th place and estimates our arrival in the top 1,000 in 16 days. To introduce a little excitement, we now have a Threat in our Conquests and Threats chart. German Hardware Network is slowly gaining on us and projected to pass us sometime in the next couple of months. If we're going to keep climbing and stay on pace to reach the top 800 by the end of next month we're going to need to keep adding CPUs.

I am slowly ramping my output back up, but am currently limited to 5 boxes. We need to keep recruiting new members or our production will drop off due to attrition. The next time you IM/PM/email/shoot a fellow nerfer, ask them why they're not contributing to the team. The only way we're going to hit the top of the charts is if everyone participates!

Keep on folding!

Would getting more RAM help me in this at all or not?

I believe it runs off CPU, but don't take my word for it.

Well, you need to have a minimum amount of RAM in order to run it effectively, and you shouldn't enable big work units unless you have 512MB or so.

Generally speaking though, it's mostly CPU bound. A processor upgrade will have a nearly linear performance increase. Eg. an Athlon 2800+ folds roughly twice as fast as a comparably equipped Athlon 1400+ does.

I'll throw this one out there, will the program work with a MAC? Because it's the only computer I have connected to the internet.

Nice, I've started it up, I dunno how well this is gonna work out, we use a wireless DSL network, and it gets shut off at night, as does this machine unless i keep an eye on it. ...

Whenever the computer is on it will happily sit there folding. When you shut it down, it will take a break. When it finishes the job if the network is up then it will transfer results and get a new job. If the network isn't up it will wait patiently until it is, then start the transfer. No stress, just keep the machine on as much as you can get away with and it will get more work done.

Lets all welcome Jakethesnake, who debuts in 35th place. 35th place is coincidentally the point at which I'll cut off this and all future ranking lists. That way the people who stop running the client will mercifully get scrolled off the list and I won't have to change my desktop resolution to do a screencap.

The big news in personal rankings is that Shinny has moved into 3rd place, surpassing baelnorn for the first time. Congrats Shinny! Other movers include thehaze into 11th, earl_the_bunny into 12th, Davis into 14th, Flamebo into 16th, Hyperion into 21st, WEASEL into 23rd, and RenegadeNerf into 25th. Impressive efforts all around.

Extreme OC ranks us in 1,210th place at the moment, still passing over 20 teams per day. Within the next week we will be passing the teams of around 15 major universities so we're definitely getting up into a more respectable neighborhood.

I've been curious about what kind of machines everyone is running and how they perform for F@H. If I might suggest a format by example, here is my primary machine at work:

P4 2.8 HT 1.5GB -advmethods -bigWU
p1602 7:04 = 129ppd
p242 5:34 = 138ppd
P1604 5:41 = 182ppd
p1555 23:52 = 135ppd
p2008 38:49 = 135ppd

If the format isn't clear, I put processor, RAM, and pertinent flags/options on the first line. The subsequent lines are project number, time to run, and points per day calculated as (points * 24 / hours_to_run) for my last 5 work units. hours_to_run is of course calculated as (minutes / 60 + hours) for those who wish we had a decimal time system. Also, if you weren't aware, the FAHlog.txt file contains all the information you need to calculate your ppd.

I'll post the stats for my A64 3.0+ when I get home tonight.

Keep em folding!

Okay, I'll contribute a screencap and a run-down of my processor:

There's my pair of consoles open, folding away! As you can see, one of them is folding a 2.6 MILLION step WU, and the other is folding a regular 400 frame WU. I've been away from home for the past 9 days, so the client hasn't been running very often (I don't have them set as services, due to a config error on my part; so I have to run them manually). I'm trying to make up for lost time now though, as I see my rank is slipping.

My computer specs:

P4 3.0 GHz HT core, 512 MB DDR RAM

I'll try to work out the points per day, but I think it's pretty low right now. I'm really too lazy to do the math right now.

Yup. Click the Extreme OC link in my post above. Anyone in red in the Conquests and Threats section is gaining on us. For what it's worth, only one team has passed us since we broke into the top 2,000 teams. DFI-Street is already into the top 700 so I don't feel too bad about being passed by them. The German Hardware Network, on the other hand, is only running slightly faster than we are so I don't want to let them pass us.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed, since I don't really want to read through the whole topic, but is there a way I can make My Laptop only do small WU's or disable large WU's? Since it's running a rather large one now, and can't really handle the large ones.

The BigWU option (during setup) does not address the length of time your computer will have to work to complete a WU, but rather the memory requirements of the WUs which will be assigned to you. Every time the client starts up it will benchmark your computer and you will generally be assigned WUs appropriate to the power of your machine. Keep in mind that even the fastest computers sometimes take 48+ hours of run time to complete a WU and that the deadline for completing most WUs is one or two months from when it is assigned.

My points are a little low and are going to be that way for a couple days cuz I'm uploading CD's into iTunes.

I have two computers running at the moment.

One, Dell 2.8Ghz with 1GB Ram. It seems to only run the bigger WUs

while my AMD64 3400+ only runs the 250 ones or smaller. I thought I enabled it to do WUs bigger then 5Mbs but it still doesnt give me anything bigger. Maybe the combo is good though.

I'll get the other details later.

Thanks quasar!

To answer your question, I am currently running two machines around the clock. I have been doing this since the beginning. The first is my school laptop, which is a 1.6 GHz Pentium M, with 1 GB of RAM. The laptop has to run on a cooling station, so I can keep it alive all semester and beyond. It has large WU's enabled.

The second machine is the only decent desktop that I have at home. It's a P4 desktop, ~2.4 GHz. It has large WU's enabled, but its RAM isn't high enough to take on the 600 point Work Unit's that my laptop does.

Hopefully, I can con my three roommates to add their machines to the cause. I've been hinting, but have found no luck. I may just walk in to their rooms and install it without them noticing!

Errrr, I just nailed this huge 360 point WU a day or two [I think it might even be three days] ago, yet im still not up on the list. I'm now processing my next WU, and it hasn't really mentioned much about my old one, should I post some log or something?

Are you sure you entered the right Team # into your config?

That's the only problem I can see.
