Yeah, i said it. Ive broken every one of my nite finders in simply normal use. The plunger head is screwed onto the plunger shaft! BOOOOO!!!! I pulled the plunger shaft clear out the back of the gun! This is why the LnL is better than the NF, becasue it is much more durable.
And nobody blindly praises the LnL anymore, guys. Maybe n00bs but they don't know anything so I wouldn't even worry about what they say. Everybody uses NF's nowadays, because they're everywhere and cheap.
I've used both guns in wars, sometimes switching mid-round. My LnL's consistently outperform my NF's, and they are modded Identically (restrictors removed, 4inch cpvc barrels) The NF isn't a secret anymore, and it is in no way underrated.
Underrated: Ballguns in general (specifically the ripsaw)
I could go into a lot of detail, but
I wrote an article about it here!!!
So jsut read that there article and you'll see what I mean.

Although overrated isn't exactly the word I'm looking for here, the NiteFinder for sure is talked about too much. People do crazy things with it, some are cool and some are just...why would you spend your time doing that? Honestly, it's a pistol and a damn good one, just leave it at that.

I beg to differ. I think the Titan actually is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY underrated. I mean, with practice it is a good Nerf gun. It is natural for me to make a mad dash to retrieve my just shot missile. 20 pumps is for max power on a stock titan. Lemme see....... you are exactly 999,999,980 pumps off. Also, as long as it isn't firing ammo a hundredth its weight, it should be allowed in wars. Remember: there are other Nerf wars other than yours.Titan < Everything, what good is a gun you have to pump a billion times & cant use in %90 of all wars?
Overrated: Crossbow. Yes you read me right, the Crossbow. I mean any nerfer (minus me and a few others) has one and people will go all "OMG! I <3 teh xbow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111†I mean, whoop-de-do, it is a mutated BBB, for all I care. It is like the "staple cards" in popular TCGs, like MTG, everyone has one (or more) and uses one (or more) in their decks. It can induce anger. Stop jumping on the bandwagon, for goodness sake!
Okay. Thus endeth the Crossbow bashing.
Remember:
Overrated: rated to an excessive degree
Underrated: rated to an underwhelming degree.
Ps: I think you meant 90%, not %90.

BBB for me. I have modified 8 of these things in my lifetime. I am no shabby modder either as im sure THIRST can vouch for me. All 8 I have modded never got over 60'...
I wouldnt call the LnL or the Crossbow over rated. The durability, modability, and overall feel of them > other blasters. If you never had one you wouldn't really know, but people are entitled to an opinion. Personaly I think they both deserve the praise they get.
Under rated: lots of guns!
DT3 - I modded one and its a beast of a two shot springer. Most people only use the pistol or take the arrow shooters spring out for a Crossbow. Mod both parts and sue as intended and you will see the power. I'm getting 70-80' from the pistol and 80' from teh arrow shooter without bands.
SecretShot 1 - As stated before. Triple barrel it and its a great sidearm.
StrongArm - CPVCd a friends for fun and it was getting 70' flat.

The Maverick carried a lot of promise, but when it came out, it was quite disappointing, and rightly so. I recall a few members correctly theorized the little, Scout-like spring plunger, combined with a revolving turret, wouldn't add up to much even after modifications. Despite some exaggerated range claims, it didn't consistently pass the 30-35 foot range after modification, something even my SM350s can easily surpass.
The Crossbow, well, it's a great blaster, no doubt. But every new nerfer gets a major boner over it for nothing, really. The pragmatic Piney thinks it isn't really overrated; it's over-hyped. Hyped to the point of financial strain for Nerfers (and their parents) who don't have loads of disposable income. Imagine paying 50 bucks for a Nerf blaster. And not like an N-Strike, at least you get three different blasters. Fifty bucks or more for ONE plastic Nerf blaster. No thanks for me.
Owning a Crossbow won't make one a superior Nerfer. Practicing and warring regularly with a Crossbow, or a 2k, or an EaB, or even a Lanard blaster will. I'm certain that the LCM, the Horsemen, or the SoCal guys could whoop asses with Lanard First Shots if they had to...because they play a lot, and get lots of practice (or at least got a lot back in the day.)
I feel the same way about LnL's being over-hyped; but I'll save that rant for another time.
UNDERRATED: There are so many different types of blasters out there that could be winners with a little work. But two that I agree on that were already mentioned were the Triple Torch and the SM250/350 series.
The 350 is the 250's butt-ugly, fat bellied brother. But with a single barrel (CPVC, or I used an irrigation material similar to PET tubing) and a little stretch of the spring, I get easy 50 foot ranges on all four of my 350s. Best Nerf dollar I've spent. (Really. 4 for .99 on eBay.)
The Triple Torch was another one dollar deal from eBay. LDM (when he was lildinoman) took me through a mod that got me 60-65 feet consistently. Not quite the 75-80 he claimed he got, but if I added bands I might have squooged out another few feet. But for what it's worth, the TT is a neat little blaster. I may even put it up for sale soon.

The manta ray is indeed underrated, Death is near impossible to hit when he is paying attention (unless of course he is grossly outnumbered and charged).
The sawtooth is not underrated, the range is easily beat out by my side arm.
Ok, now to what I wanted to say.
It's sort of sad that the Crossbow and LnL are considered so overrated. The Crossbow/LnL combo is mostly what I use. Why? Because I have had that crossbow for 10 years now and I have been using it since the day I bought it... and it hasn't failed me yet. It's construction is really the only reason I love it so much. Sure, the range is beatable... but the gun is just so damn hearty. I have modded it, re-modded it, taken it apart, put it together, and it just never dies. I've never had to replace a single piece of it (of course it is re-enforced and modded) and I've never had a problem with it. It is sturdy (and it feels sturdy, which I love) and it is a good size. My LnL is in a holster attatched to the side of the crossbow. I like the LnL for similair reasons. It is reliable and it is a perfect size and feel. It hasn't failed me yet and it works perfectly for the application for which it is used. It doesn't really have to shoot terribly far (of course the range is pretty good), it just needs to be there to save my ass when I miss or when I am charged. In any case, I suppose the guns are overrated, but I haven't found a good replacement yet. I have like 3 of those Lanard Maxshots and I am not impressed. The range is excellent, and they are cheap. They are fairly easy to mod, as well. However, the feel is not durable, I find that it is too lightweight for my taste, and I find it unreliable (oh, and I don't really care for the cocking mechanism, either). Sure, the BBB gets similair range to the crossbow, but is not nearly as durable or reliable. I have used other guns as my main during wars... Splitshots seem to be my next favorite thing to use, but out of all the other guns, the Crossbow and LnL combo still seem to be my favorite.
In any case, that's just my two cents.
Underrated - Arrowstorm. Yeah, that's right, Arrowstorm. Mostly because I haven't seen anyone mention it in a long time and that gun kicks ass in the correct pair of hands. (Apologies to anyone who already said this).
Overrated - They almost all have their uses, so I don't see how to call a specific gun overrated.
Oh, and Piney, I totally agree with you. It's all about the nerfer, not the gun.

Overrated: Crossbow. I've never had one of these in my hands, and I want one desperately, but it gets too much recognition. There are plenty of other sharpshooting guns out there (SM1500, SM5k, BBB, Maxshot, LBB). Still, I would like to find a X-bow and try it on for size. I've got mixed feelings about it.

Underrated: Powerclip. Gets about 45-50 feet flat consistantly and has a removable clips? I mean the AT3k gets 80' flat etc. but at a practical level you can cover that 30' of ground awfully quickly and stick 10 darts in him.

Underrated: Manta Ray. I really, REALLY like this gun. Its got that distinct feel that is just totally awesome. Plus, like soemoen else said earlier; this is the only gun that has a legal shield. How cool is that? Im amazed nerf has never re-released this gun. To this day the engineering in this gun is amazing. The only down point is the fragile triggers, but that can be fixed though.
