Without removing the thermistors, your best bet are probably trustfires which aren't that great (they aren't really meant for this application and will be overdrawn in terms of current). You could use IMR's, but those might trip the thermistors. It's not really good to just change the batteries without removing some of the safety components in the circuit.

Most nerf guns are wired with 22-24 GA wire which isn't the greatest for handle high voltage/amp/current loads which is why everyone advocates rewiring with 18ga in addition to removing the thermistors from the motors before using high power batteries.

You can run two or three 3.7v Efest IMRs in your RS without risking anything, bringing it up to 7.4 or 11.1v. It's better than nothing.
