As I was reading about how to make a HAMP, I noticed a major inefficiency: the priming stroke. If there were two alternating barrels and hoppers, that would be much more efficient.

However, I had forgotten about that idea, until I had thought about something else: what if the plunger was driven by a motor/solenoid?

When I put both of my ideas together (in my mind, I don't have time for building anything), I had an idea for a full-auto electric double-barreled monstrosity.

What I need to know is "Is this doable?" Until I have an answer, the DHAEP, or as I started thinking of it, the Desolator, will remain just a mental prototype.

Will it work?unsure.gif

There have been many dual-action HAMPs. Here are some of them.

Now I'm going to quote Langley from this post.

Concept threads tend to sound like, "I'm planning to build a nerf grenade, does anyone have any advice? Here is a shitty diagram to illustrate how little I understand physics and fabrication". You may notice that there are concept threads that squeak by under the radar because they have some value. If someone puts a ton of work into making a CAD diagram, or tries to do something new and fails, and they want to share that, that's great. We just ban concept threads as a general rule to keep things simple.

Buy a pulsator and figure out how to motorize it?

Better yet, someone sell me a pulsator for a reasonable price.

Ice Nine, this isn't a concept post, this is a "consult the sages to find out if this is feasible" post.

I guess my post wasn't quite clear enough; my question should be refined down to this: "Is it feasible to convert a HAMP into something electric?"

Also, advice request: motors or solenoids?

Motors with bolt sleds.

So, you're saying you want to add motors onto a HAMP, so that the motors do the work instead of you? This could work, but HAMPs fire based on how much force you put into depressing the plunger. In order for motors to put in that sufficient amount of force, you'd need to have them going full speed continuously, which will make it extremely hard to make the HAMP anything other than fully auto.

Also, the HAMPs design is made in such a way where a trigger is removed from the design. By adding motors or an alternate method of pushing the plunger in and out, you'd have to add a trigger. Why add excess bull to an extremely smart, minimalistic design? My advice, don't fuck with something that ain't broken.

I wasn't sure about whether to use motors or solenoids. If I do make an e-HAMP, I'll use solenoids. (Wire coiled around a steel/iron/magnetic rod)
The role of the Devastator is full-auto with dual-wield available.

Have either of you thought about how much force it takes to actuate a HAMP? What about the amount of power that either of those methods will require? You might want to do some basic calculations. *This* is why concept threads suck, and are not allowed. You can argue all you want, but that only makes you more wrong.

Good point. I think I'd have to lug around a car battery to use this.

I have, which is why I mention that it would need a sufficient amount of force. Never said that the force could be easily attained, Drac.

Same thing. If you don't know the answer to, "Is this feasible?" and you don't have the motivation to figure it out on your own, you're probably not going to succeed at pulling it off yourself. No one has done this before. If it were worth doing, no one with the expertise to do it would sit down and hold your hand through it, they would just do it themselves and post a writeup afterward.
