Kitty is right-- we don't need to optimize this, it's already powerful enough. Also, the bow length = height standard makes sense with a bow and arrow, which can have a fairly long draw distance. In the Aabow, the draw distance will always be less than half (usually closer to 1/3) of the total distance between the bow and the fully drawn string. This is just the geometry of the device. Since your non-drawing hand is normally used to hold onto the bow, this limits the draw to much less than that of a normal bow.
You could get around this limitation by putting a handle on the plunger, or putting the bow in the middle or behind the plunger. But, it would look and feel much less like a bow, and as we have been over many times, the design already allows for plenty of power for nerf purposes, even if your plunger / barrel / whatever is very inefficient
