The darts are terribly out of proportion, but you get the general idea. Also, the spring would have to be weak enough to not squish the darts, yet strong enough to push them ALL the way up to the breech. It's a conceivable idea, I might actually try it if I can find a spring.

Whilst reading the responses to the topic, I came up with an idea. You take two different sizes of PVC and a torsion spring. You would place the spring inside of the smaller diameter PVC, then, attach one of the spring "arms" to a solid base inside the PVC. Next, attach the other "arm" to a dart friendly loader, (basically something that pushes the darts along in the clip without them jamming) and place the loader arm in the space inbetween the two sizes of PVC. Here is a diagram...

In addition to the above idea by iMod1, you could also add a crank to turn the drum mag clip.
My idea was more for a prototype/spring failure backup king of thing.

And that system does not look very reliable, as I'm pretty sure you'd get too many jams in the corner bend.

Put a Mav turret into it and make so that a breech is able to enter though the back of the turret
You just gave me and insane idea for how I'm going to use the leftover Tommy 20 turret from my latest project.

what about instead of feeding at a right angle where it'd have to make the journey around the bend, why not just straight up?
I know you lose the general point of making it MG42ish, but once you've got a working drum mag, figuring out the corner loading problem would be the last step.
Personally, I kind of want an AK47 style banana clip for my LS and recon.

I've always been interested in creating something similar to this by combining a maverick turrent and a longshot:
Please note that the pictures may not be to scale.
You Realize that your taking a Maverick Barrel, 6 Shots, To replace a Clip that has, well, 6 Shots. I honestly Don't see the point in doing extensive modding just to use a working Barrel Concept. Don't get me wrong, If you did it I would be amazed. But just thinking about it doesn't really work out in the end.

What you could do is, use the internals of a magstrike and hook up the pump and all that stuff then just buy like 5 clips or "magazines" do the mod to get those together and use that. The make the whole thing sideways. By sideways i mean when the clip advances dont make it got up make it got to the right or left. If you did that it'd be like a real mg42 and be fully automatic
With that, I would have to say that this thread has finally spun out of control. Besides, the correct term is magazine, the word "Clip" should be put into quotations, not to be an ass or anything.
