[That's cos Metallica doesn't give metal a bad name... I only hate Slipknot because whenever I ask someone if they like metal the conversation goes like this:

They: "What, like Slipknot? I don't like stuff like that." This can be a different mallcore band... but since we're talking about Slipknot I'll use them as an example.
Me: "No, Slipknot is not metal."
They: "Well, I guess I don't know what metal is, then."

It's just aggravating to see people have such a misconception of a whole genre because of a particularly popular band. If you want to listen to Slipknot, fine, just don't introduce them as metal... I don't really want to argue this point, so if you feel differently, tough, don't get take it to the point of a flame in the thread.

I agree with you. I personally hate the attitudes of 99% of Slipknot fans. I mean, half the fans are 12 year olds trying to act cool by saying "Maggot 4 lyfe, stay (sic)" I'm almost ashamed to say I like them in public because of the absurd reaction I get from some people.

That doesn't mean I don't like the music though.

EDIT: Oh wait...you're not talking about the fans, your talking about people who think Slipknot is all that metal is. I'd agree on you with that too, Slipknot is a bad representation of the genre 'metal'.

Don't know if it counts as rock, but Dark Chest of Wonders by Nightwish is awesome. (just like most other songs by Nightwish, although not all of them have guitars in them)

[And i'm noticing that almost everyone put Mettalica down on their list. Does nerfing cause us to like Metallica, or is that a very odd coincidence? And I forgot:

Nerfing doesn't cause you to like Metallica. It's the fact that almost everybody DOES like Metallica. Seriously, I have found very few people who don't like them. Yes, I've talked to people who think they're overated, but they aren't like "ZOMG I H8 METALLICA".

Okay, I am alarmed and yet not surprised. I have talked to people who hate Metallica, but either someone hears them and kicks their ass, or I just shoot them the bird and walk away. And why some people hate that band is beyond me. I am the black sheep in my family, more so than Rambo is here. Just kidding. :P But seriously, I mean my whole family prefers, this genre I absolutely can't tolerate for the life of me.... country. My family starts putting some on, I just lean out of my room and yell the following:

"CAN YOU PLEASE TURN THAT F***IN' S*** DOWN!?!?!?! please?" More often than not, it works. If not, I just shoot a blank in my air rifle towards a wall, echoing the sharp crack and then the music is decreased by 85 percent, barely tolerable to me. Then I go about my buisness as usual, as if nothing ever happpened.

As far as Slipknot goes, I consider them industrial metal; some of their stuff is good, but they're more percussion-oriented than guitar-driven. As far as staright-up metal goes, I contend that these guys are the heaviest band out there. Absolutely brutal.
Not to be the black sheep, but I find Metallica infinitely boring. I have lots of love and respect for the guys in the band and what they've done for the genre, but I can't bring myself to listen to them. Maybe they're not heavy enough, maybe their sound just doesn't do it for me, but something just doesn't click when I listen to them.
I pretty much stopped listening to them after the "Black" album came out. It took me a while to get used to it. I still like it, but that was the last album I bought. Load and Re-load just didn't do it for me anymore. And I moved on. But back to the topic.....Under my Voodoo by Sublime and Creep from Radiohead. Love those 2 songs. Everytime my son hears Under my Voodoo, he asks if that's me and I say I wish.

RIP Bradly:)

I don't have a favorite song but I would have to say Metallica and Black Sabbath are my favorite bands and it would be tied between The Mob Rules by Black Sabbath and Through The Never by Metallica. I have every album by both bands and I would recomend any album from them except St. Anger by Metallica. That was the one album which sucked ass, Really bad...

Agreed. Although I do enjoy a good Behemoth song here and there. My brother showed me them when I was like 10, I was scared at shit back then.

Yeah, they are bleed-from-the-eyes heavy. A friend of mine has seen them live, and Nergal came out wearing a Kali mask and spitting blood, and ripped up a bible on stage. There were Christian protesters there, and Nergal was debating them before the concert with an "I Love Satan" t-shirt on. Then you see interviews, and he's this nice, polite, articulate guy that sounds exactly like Squisgaar Squigelf. It's really brilliant vaudeville, to borrow the great Alice Cooper's idiom. On topic: Lamb of God is impressive, particularly when it comes to vocal dexterity. As far as smart, skillful hard rock is concerned, I'll put Audioslave up there with anything. Chris Cornell is one of the single best vocalists out there, and Tom Morello is godly.

Pretty much. That was 3 minutes of my life that I shan't see again. "Camelot is a silly place"...

On a more positive note, Tool (when they're not bogged down in conceptual BS) is as close to perfect as can be expected. They know how to pace; "10,000 Days (Wings pt. 2)" is 10 minutes long, but never once feels forced; there's not a note in it that doesn't fall exactly where and how it should.

Definitely gotta throw in that fucking falloutboy! I just can't get enough of "Sugar we're going down swinging", that has to be the hardest core song of all time. I just can't not listen to that song and bang my head to it.

......

All kidding aside, many of the songs in this thread are just appalling to my eyes, but of course it's YOUR favorite song, so to each his own.

Some of mine

Push the hand- toadies
passenger, hexagram - deftones
the hollow, gravity, orestes, 3 libras, vanishing- APC

Just to name a few that come to mind.

Someone better have thrown up some Machinae Supremacy already, although I may be the only one on this forum who's ever heard of them

So:

Dreadnaught - Machinae Supremacy
Fury - Machinae Supremacy
Dark City - Machinae Supremacy

Or what about some Bohemian Rhapsody? Commence head-banging on my mark!

OOOOO..... or Joker & The Thief by Wolfmother, that ones pretty rockin' as well

Any song by ''Say anything'' and still fly by the ''devil wears prada.''

The Devil Wears Prada is the best screamo metal band of all time, but you know, Still Fly is a cover of a rap song. Listen to all of The Devil Wears Prada's stuff.

The Devil Wears Prada- Every single song by them
Bring Me The Horizon - Off the Heezay, I Used to Make Out With Medusa
As I Lay Dying- Forever
Alesana- Ambrosia
WhiteChapel- Festering Fiesta, This is Exile, Vicer Exciser
All Shall Perish- Eradication
Decapitated- Winds of Negation
Anima- There is Something Vicious
Avenged Sevenfold- Darkness Surrounding, Turn the Other Way, Second Heartbeat
Lamb of God- Bloodletting, Now You've Got Something to Die For, Ruin, Walk With Me in Hell, Laid to Rest

I have so many more that I love. All of the above is either screamo metal or Death Metal. It's my scene.

^Hear, hear! I hate screamo vocals like poison. On topic; Coheed and Cambria are coming by my neck of the woods for a Christmas benefit concert. I am happy about this. Also, I'm going to be That Guy and point out that Godspeed You! Black Emperor is bleeding fantastic, and has been neglected thus far.

True, but I certainly wouldn't consider them as having a great measure of instrumental talent. Their music is definitely great, but technically simplistic. The compositions never cease to sound amazing, but it is not something I'd think of to recommend for guitar-centric music. I suppose we've gotten way off that, though...

Yes, screamo is a genre of music derived from emo. Unfortunately people confuse it with metal, but it is not. "Screamo" is the correct term.

And it still sucks....

Actually I will say the average age around here is about 13-16. I listened to a lot of crappy music during that time of my life and was just discovering some cool stuff, so I'm done with the bash session.
