I know no one used to believe my ranges (not sure if thats still true) but my first singled longshot could hit nearly 120 flat once I added a BBB spring to it. Those that used it at apoc can account for it's ranges, and it didn't even have the bow spring in it then.
I can account for it shooting about 80-90' singled. I don't remember what you said you had in there though.

Cease. CEASE.You never sees to impress me.
This is too much.. but in a good way. Good job!
Is the foregrip hard to prime? I've always seen it attached where the original primer was, not directly to the bolt sled like that.

Anyways, great stuff as usual from Hereti Corp., and nice detailed write-up. Real pretty gun you got there... hell all of your guns turn out so awesome! =)

Excellent work. I think I'll be looking here when I get my Longshot back open.
So that took what, 9 posts?
Great job, I love all your work.
EDIT: I counted. If a picture's worth a thousand words, then your writeup, without words, is worth 85,000 words. Now that's a post I'd like to see...
Good luck, the thing's a pain until you really get the hang of it.
Took 10, because I split things up more than NH requires.
Thanks.
Heh, apparently it's only 85 pics, I left out several from the total number I posted on flickr, mostly because of the duplication of effort. 85,000 words huh? That'd be a helluva thing.
I think I'm going to enjoy your stay here at the haven more than you will.
Very nice job on the longshot.
Don't bet on it, I'm having a blast.
Okay, I saw this a few days ago and was going to try it, because it is a basically very detailed Angel Breech, and possibly easier. But looking at these ranges, it doesn't look that good. I was hoping I'd get 120' range with an Angel Breech + ar spring + good stefans. But you're only getting half that. The only point of error I can see is the stefans, and the plunger head as you mentioned. Is there any other reason for error that could possibly be fixed, or would I be better off following Angel's guide?
Edit: And why does it say you need pen springs when you never use them?
It's not easier, it's actually a little harder.
There's no way in hell you're getting 120' out of a longshot, it simply isn't happening. Want 120'? Build a +Bow, or a singled Titan. It just isn't possible on a longshot.
Angel's guide isn't any different, it's the same breech with a very tiny modification. You will get similar results. Angel's was ~100' steady.
It's definitely not the darts. The only major change I haven't made is the plunger head and that'll only help a little bit for ranges.
I was originally going to use cut pen springs for the catch spring reinforcement, but I found that the springs from the other parts of the longshot worked better.
I don't even particularly like the Longshot, but this writeup is amazing in and of itself. And rangewise, I think Slowguitarman's right; best I remember, even Angel's topped at about 100'. ~Rork
Thanks, hopefully I'll be doing some more with the longshot after this as well, I have an AT2K to play with, and some pressure switches and a laser pointer to add in. We'll see how it goes.
Excellent work Heritcorp.
I look forward to more of your stuff.
I will add this to the directory.
It definitely seems some kind of integrations is in order for the dead space.
This kind of work deserves a video.
With no voices, goosebumps inspiring music and masks.
Thanks!
I'm working on the integrations now, we'll see how it turns out in the long run.
Heh, if only I was that good with video editing.
I'll see what I can do with my wife's camera, hers actually has a video mode. And I need a good mask... Maybe I'll get a steampunk flight helmet and goggles.

He does. They are used to reinforce the trigger catch.

It's easy to prime, obviously a little harder than stock being as it has the AR-15 spring in there, but not at all difficult.
Applying the force directly to the barrel assembly rather than pulling on it from below through the bolt sled makes it a little easier to cock as well.

If I were to do the mod, I'd probably cut down on the front shotgun grip. It's cool, but it make it hard to add anything else under the hood, like a SMTG.

This is without doubt the best LS writeup since FA's. Great job, I finally understand the breach. However I'm a little concerned about attaching the slide the way you did, it looks like the plastic part might snap off the brass. and I have a quick question, what kind of silver paint do you use, because I use the Krylon Fusion stuff and its whore shit.
Heh, I attached the slide exactly where the stock bolt sled attaches. It applies the same amount of force to the exact same area as the stock bolt sled does.
All I did was move the rod that applies the force from the back of the bolt sled to the front of the sled.
The piece snapping off is a hazard of this particular mod and any mod that fully replaces the stock barrel. FA's mod has this same problem with the stock bolt sled. You just have to use the correct glue and everything will be fine.
I used Krylon Metallics Silver on top of Duplicolor Black Vinyl Dye.
I use Duplicolor Vinyl Dye for a base coat, Krylon Fusion for all the solid colors (White, Black, Green, Etc), Krylon Metallics for all the Gold/Silver/Bronze, and Duplicolor MetalliCast for the colored metallics (Red, Blue, Purple).
I use Krylon Clear Coat Gloss Finish for the last coat over the top, it doesn't dull colors and it provides a nice sheen on top of the paintjobs.
He does. They are used to reinforce the trigger catch.
Incorrect, I used the springs from the bolt lock and the trigger lock (Or was it the bolt tooth and the trigger lock? Whatever, they're the same spring) to reinforce the catch.
I was GOING to use cut down pen springs, but I ended up not.
Cut down pen springs are great for catch reinforcement all over the place though.
That longshot looks absolutely beautiful.
If I were to do the mod, I'd probably cut down on the front shotgun grip. It's cool, but it make it hard to add anything else under the hood, like a SMTG.
Thanks, and it's not that it needs to be cut down, it's the fact that I had to add that rod on the bottom to correct for the bowing effect when I built the grip.
If I had left the rod out and let the force of the bowing be taken up by the upper rod in the front, there's space under there for a front gun integration, or pretty much anything else you could think of.
I will be putting something down there, I'm just not quite sure what it's going to be yet.

I did a spring replacement using a cut-down +bow spring prior to attempting to convert the breech to brass, but it gave the stock plastic bolt assembly no problems. I'm hoping that there are alternatives I can attempt before having to downgrading back to the stock spring.

I've been working on a similar Longshot mod, but in my case Zap-A-Gap has proven insufficient in keeping the orange nub that joins the bolt to its sled in place. Each time I pull the bolt back, the orange nub simply snaps off from the bolt anywhere between 1/2 to 3/4ths of the way down.

How odd, did you rough up the brass and the bottom of the nub before gluing them in place?
Mine has never snapped off, on this breech or the one that I made previous to this one. I just drip a little ZaG on the nub, and apply pressure for about 24 hours.
The XBow spring is basically a wussy AR-15 isn't it?

The Plusbow spring is very similar to the AR-15; best I can recall, it's skinnier, but the wire's thicker. The X-bow stock spring is considerably weaker, to my knowledge. ~Rork
Then umdlancer did something seriously wrong with the gluing, there's no way the numb should snap off with a cut down X-Bow spring when it doesn't with my cut AR-15+Stock LS spring setup.
CS said over in the +Bow DIY thread that the two springs were interchangeable on the +Bow (The one he recommends and the AR-15).

umdlancer, try putting some more Zap-a-Gap around the joint to further reinforce it.

Half-length would be 5-5 1/2", as opposed to the 4 3/4" length that Slug recommends.
Half length would also cause the plunger rod not to catch because the spring can't be compressed enough for it to correctly reach the rear of the gun.
4 3/4" AR15 spring seems to be about perfect for this application.

I think I can handle it...would you say a year's experience would suffice?
About the video editing, if you'd use it a bit, I'd suggest looking into the Ulead VideoStudio line. My sister was an amateur film director, and you can do some pretty good stuff with it. I don't know what version they're on now, we have 7 and 9.
I can attest that a stock Xbow spring is substantially weaker than a +bow/AR15 spring, I can fully compress the former with my bare hands and can barely shorten the latter. I can also attest that that that spring is the most beastly coil of wire I've ever touched, so I'd imagine any gun with a piece of it inside could chuck a dart a fair distance.
EDIT: Thanks hereticorp

I've been nerfing for a little under a year, so I'd say so.
They're on 11.5 now, I'll see what I can do with it, the vids my wife's camera takes always end up huge compared to the time they run. We'll see how it goes.

I really dig the paint job. I dunno about the rest though, as you said there isn't really anything new here. Since you cleared the bi-pod area and did the shotty grip might I suggest that you convert the shotgun-style grip to something more along the lines of a vertical foregrip. That would be freakin' sweet. Original too (as far as I know)
All in all good work, keep it up
-Ta10n
Personally, I think that vertical foregrips are ugly and not needed. So no, none of that.
The big difference between my mod and everyone else's is that it shotguns a sledless longshot, which I don't believe anyone has done before. At least not that I've seen.
The point was to get a writeup out there that helps people when they want to mod their stuff, not to do something unique. I'm well aware that the longshot has been done to death and I'd really have to go out on a limb to make something truly new.
