So I went over to my friends apartment (next door) to show him my newly tweaked suppression rifle (heavily modded blast bazooka) and air tank (with new valves). Our other friend from high school (a bunch of us ended up in the same out of state college) was there and had brought over smash bros. brawl. I only played for just over a half an hour. I played as Samus (there are few people alive who can beat me on N64 if I'm playing as Samus) and I had a lot of fun with Samus changing suits. It was a pain when she didn't have her suit on...she was faster but much weaker...but while transitioning I consistently turned the tides of the battle by unleashing that mega blast (saved myself from the hammer once). I didn't get to see too much of the game, but it's tempting to me buy a Wii (I swore of videogames about five years ago and the only game I own now is Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero III...I have a PS2 but no controllers...just guitars)! Not the best game I've every played, but pretty close. No mention of Pit...
I've had infinite success with his final smash, but heard otherwise at school today.
Otherwise I like to jump around a bit so here are my favorites so far:
Ike
Link
Samus
What do you think of Zero Suit Samus? I'm not particularily enthralled, except for the fact that she's... enthralling to the eyes...

Also, her up special seems to be okay, if difficult to hit with. I only managed to connect once, though I wasn't really trying all that hard.
It's going to be difficult for Samus players to get used to it, I think.
I'm not a big fan of Pit, due to lack of offensive specials. I like Ike, Marth, and Metaknight, though...only thing about them is that their Final smashes don't have as big of an area of effect as others. And I think I self destructed as Marth once, when I missed.
Dedede is fun; any one else try him out? I heard on the interwebs that he was hard to play as, but I don't think he's too bad.

Problem I have is with anonymous online matchmaking, it takes so long to find players and you can't change the rules from 2 minute match. Which means waiting for 2 minute ko fest for at least 5 minutes.
However, I say we post friend codes.

i love snake's TOW rocket launcher
I believe it's called the Nikita...
Anyway...
As a Samus player myself, I was sad to see that her projectiles were nerfed, but she's still pretty good. Her useless Up smash and side aerials have been improved.
I was also a Doctor Mario player... I miss Doc.
Sonic's great, although difficult to control at first. Kirby and Bowser have been drastically improved (which they really needed). I haven't played Yoshi but I hear he's been nerfed all to hell.
And Link seems alot slower... His down aerial seemed a little harder to hit with.
Ice Climbers Own. All their specials have been improved alot. They seem to be alot more reliant on having both Climbers alive than they were in Melee, though.
The only thing that really pisses me off (besides Doc being cut) is that Fox, Falco, and Wolf all have Landmasters for their Final Smash... that's just retarded.
The Sound Track is amazing, and Subspace Emissary is worthy of being a game all by itself. This is THE Wii game to buy.
Probably dead by now, or something.

Kirby - AWESOME! KIRBY CAN KILL AGAIN! Well, at least kill without having to train a lot. I love his hammer now. His moves are quicker. Dang, he's nearly like his N64 version!
Pikachu - PIKACHU'S AWESOME TOO! I love how Pikachu's down smash acts kind of like Mario tornado, and his uair. Finally, my first smash character is denerfed.
Marth - I couldn't get good with Kirby in Melee, so I switched to Marth after I was Link. I hate how his side special doesn't help his recovery anymore. Now, I just used his Shield Breaker. However, I love how his Dancing Blade comes out faster.
Ike - Wow... He is powerful, I have to admit, but it takes a while to get used to his speed, or lack of in his case.
Ness - Yay! His yo-yo's are stronger, it looks like PKT2 is farther, and I think his PK Fire has less start up lag(at leas when compared to N64).
Metaknight - He might be my last character. He is definetly fast, his recovery is on par and may surpass Kirby due to the fact that he can glide. Combo-able, fast, good air-guarder, awesome.
Yes! I LOVE BRAWL!

It turns out that you stay suit-less from level to level until you get another smash ball!
You can change back and forth using up taunt, down taunt, up taunt. You can also change between Mario and Bruce Campbell in the same way*.
Ike is the shit. End of story. I won the second round of my schools tournament with him, fighting 2 sonics and a link, and i only got 12 percentage on me. That counter-attack is deadly, not to mention the third attack on his normal A-A-A combo sends people flying just as much as Mario's side smash. Too bad hes so slow... Good thing he can breath fire*.
As for online play, don't waste your time. WHEN it works, its boring because you either play people who are RIDICULOUSLY bad or RIDICULOUSLY awesome. That being said its an important step for Nintendo who, consequently, simply cant realize that online play is good. Maybe if they make a fourth they might have some decent online but we will see. During an interview with the creator, he was asked if he would make another and his response was something to the effect of: it was so much fun i cant imagine stopping. After he finishes Mario Pony Adventure of course*.

That being said, it is the easiest way to unlock characters, so I suppose it has merit in that respect.
Still, it is a dazzlingly fun game.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

Also, you can't complain about SSE, because, it's not part of the core game, people are going to be using online and the other modes.. SSBB isn't designed to be always single player, and it comes out like that. Also, a lot of those FMV's KICK ASS.

Anyone play it with Gamecube controllers? A friend said that has better control?
More like: who doesn't play with a GCN (that's: Nintendo Gamecube for you noobs) controller?
That said, I haven't tried anything but a GCN controller (and it's great), so I can't give you an answer.
Speaking of which, I really should to pick up a fourth GCN controller...

My favorite character is ROB. It is surprisingly difficult to predict his attacks. If unshielded, his neutral b lazer deals decent damage and stops an Ike smash-b rush attack. Rob's punches are strong, and are in all the button combinations that I prefer when I smash. His jet attacks (Areal Down A, Areal Back A, Areal Neutral A) do considerable damage, AND have a disjointed hitbox. If someone attacks into it when the timing's right, they get hit, but I don't. ROB's final smash isn't particularly amazing, but I've found that the key to victory isn't in using the final smashes to kill people, but instead to simply get the final smashes so no one else can use them against you.

The adventure mode is interesting, all the nintendo characters in the game are all running around and Meta Knight's ship is dropping purple smoke all the time (Even though Meta Knight himself isn't behind it), and there are a bunch of weird enemies I've never seen before, and people keep getting turned into the little game-piece trophy things, and it's very, very confusing. Also, Bowser and Wario and some other guys are running around firing this huge laser cannon at people.
I think my favorite characters are Fox/Falco and Meta Knight. I was playing with my friend as Fox, and I got into the habit of shouting "LANDMASTER!!!" Whenever I got the final smash, which was just about every time the smash ball appeared.
My friend uses Ness, and his final smash is raining meteors over the whole stage. He calls it an air-strike.

ROB's final smash isn't particularly amazing.
Even if you are practically guaranteed a KO on everyone you use is on? Just keep them stuck in the beam for a little while, and the beam will cut off briefly with a discharge that can easily KO people. It does that every couple seconds at random.
Holy fuck i forgot about doctor mario. He was badass in Melee. Whoever designs the game is such a troll.
Yeah I can't believe they cut Doc. At least Mario's much better in Brawl.
Samus's nerfed projectiles were frustrating me too much and I was forced to go main-hunting... I ended up maining the slowest and fastest characters in the game, DeDeDe and Sonic. DeDeDe's Hammer is Godly (the forward smash can kill at 30%, and I can reliably hit poeple with it), and Sonic's extreme speed is very fun to frustrate people with.
I still can't believe Falco has a landmaster. Falco hates landmasters.
Probably dead by now, or something.
