#298171 Zombie Party Topeka Kansas May 28

They're getting assistance from some HvZ vets, I believe.

#316591 Who's still around from the older nerf vets?

Posted by Ozymandias on 06 June 2012 - 01:19 AM in Off Topic

Wow, I haven't been on here in years. It's great to be back. Captain Slug, Forsaken, Itallionstallion, Carbon?

Capt. Slug is on hiatus due to responsibilities/time commitments, the other 3 are still here.

#338330 What Happened to NerfRev?

Posted by Ozymandias on 20 April 2014 - 01:19 AM in General Nerf

Yah, it is a real shame the NRev collapsed. Much of Louice3 and many other's work is now lost forever. If the site is recovered. We could possibly post a read-only version in a forum, merging it with NH. On the bright side, now that NRev is down, nerfers aren't separated and now everyone has their ideas on one website.

Louice3's stuff is all on his photo-bucket. Off the top of my head, the only content on NRev that isn't on here or HvZ would be Louiec3's stuff (still on his photobucket), Taer's stuff (which no longer had photos anyway), Ragriz's Hoppered longshot, and Rogue's stuff on Longshots, which has been done by others so its not lost entirely. We lost the newsletters, so that blows.

I'll text Vincent periodically to see if he responds. My working theory right now is that he is actually a CIA operative, and that he is now deep undercover in Crimea.

So, big takeaway from this is, always have more then 1 admin on a forum.

RIP NerfHQ, NRev, and Soothsayer. Apparently, NerfHaven is the Highlander.

Jerm modified the Deluge and got 70ft. ranges. I don't see why that couldn't work here.

#312525 Vulcan "Overhaul"

Posted by Ozymandias on 06 March 2012 - 12:29 PM in Modifications

That setup looks a bit unwieldly with the giant cardboard box on one side and the trash can on the other. have you considered getting smaller boxes, possible cloth/wire boxes? by the way, has this had any problem with the added spring tension from the omw spring?

As far as box weight goes, HvZers have been using M1919 Browning machine gun ammo boxes for quite some time.

#322938 Vote for NH's Next Avatar Pack

Posted by Ozymandias on 23 October 2012 - 02:31 PM in Off Topic

Although if you want to vote, you have to pick at least one from each grouping.

Question: since there are 27 options up there, could we have 9 per grouping with a 'None of the above option' in each one if we don't have a preference in that group? Or is that too overly complicated?

Great improvement on a novelty item, but I fail to see its overall effectiveness in an actual war.

#299842 The Two (or Three) Hour Homemade

Posted by Ozymandias on 14 June 2011 - 02:19 AM in Homemades

Very nice.

Can we get a firing vid?

Also, where did you buy that check valve? I have never seen that sort of thing at Lowe's/Home Depot.

#299859 The Two (or Three) Hour Homemade

Posted by Ozymandias on 14 June 2011 - 02:24 PM in Homemades

Ozymandias -- I'll try and get a video up later today. I got the valve at Lowe's in the section with the ball valves (bottom shelf), in the same aisle as the rest of the fittings. Smaller hardware stores generally don't have them, I think because they are primarily a "contractor item." But I have seen them at Homie D's and larger Ace Hardware stores. McMaster has them as 46835K52, though beware of shipping costs.

Ah, thanks fir the info.

I guess you'll just need to keep adjusting and testing it until you get the right amount of valve opening to get the semi-auto function, the opening needs to be quite small to get the effect.

A suggestion: take the piece of SCH 40 PVC between the check valve and the ball valve, stick some 1/4in. tubing in there, and goop the space around it. That should do the trick, I think.

You might want to use a longer piece of pipe though, otherwise the smaller diameter would mean less volume per shot.

#300292 The SNAP/Revolution

Posted by Ozymandias on 21 June 2011 - 12:35 PM in Homemades

Ahtanie built a collapsible stock that might be useful here.

You're using different materials, but the basic design should still work.

#300243 The SNAP/Revolution

Posted by Ozymandias on 20 June 2011 - 04:28 PM in Homemades

To add to Zorn's comment, I attempted to make my +bow work with surgical (slingshot) tubing, and my 3/8 Nylon square rod bent at the notch. Of course, it is entirely plausible I just fucked up when cutting the notch in the first place. I probably made the cut too deep.

#300200 The SNAP/Revolution

To anybody who didn't get the reference: The Beatles - Revolution 9

Anyway, how does this spring compare to a [k26] in terms of priming difficulty?

#319816 The Official Internals Directory

Posted by Ozymandias on 03 August 2012 - 03:25 PM in Modifications

This post has some errors. Under 'Nerf' where it says elimenator, the picture is of reflex internals

That is because the reflex used to be known as the eliminator.

#317979 The NIC Spring Database

Posted by Ozymandias on 04 July 2012 - 03:23 PM in General Nerf

Alright, finally got around to taking a screenshot of my excel chart of McMaster's 11in. 'Cut-to-Length Compression Springs'.

McMaster changed up the way they calculate spring constants since I made this, however the information is still accurate unless they changed the springs themselves.

The equations I use are courtesy of Zorn in the thread he mentioned up there.

The springs themselves are sorted by the max power of the fully compressed, whole spring.

I'm not saying this info is exact, but it should be close enough.

#302532 The Giant Caulk

Posted by Ozymandias on 30 July 2011 - 01:06 AM in Homemades

I tried this a while back, but the catch always failed; then again, I think it was the ratcheting variety.

One suggestion, if you're unwilling to pay ~$5 for a skirt seal: get a caulk tube, empty it, clean it out, and use the pusher from that as your plunger head. It will need a lot of re-enforcement obviously, but it should get a near perfect seal.

#306387 The "Sabot" Dart

Posted by Ozymandias on 23 October 2011 - 04:18 PM in Darts and Barrels

Relevant: SixShot's NerfSG thread from Nov 09'.

SgNerf worked off this design, using different lengths of eraser as well as adding padding/tape.

Please correct me if i am wrong, but I believe they are the same person, because both poster's names are sixshot.

Yup, I know. Just pointing out the original post date to avoid a shitstorm.

We won't be doing any particularly complicated game types, as this is the first NIC style war we will be attempting.

Gametypes might include simple 3-15, meatgrinder, DTC, CTF, Wingmen, Gunslingers Heaven, and anything else reasonably simple.

I am not positive what this group's ranges are like, so if you come make sure you bring a primary with lower (80ish) ranges in case I have to impose an on the spot range limit.

The Gaming part of the title refers to the fact that the group likes melee, so there will be a melee round or 2, probably towards the end of the day when lighting makes finding darts difficult.

Lunch has not been planned out yet, although there are numerous nearby restaurants/fastfood joints.

Here is how I am running pistol rounds:
"Pistolsplats are not considered pistols in pistol only rounds unless they have a RSCB or something to limit ranges. Nitefinders are okay within reason.

Pistols is 3-15 with Mavericks, Nitefinders, Pistolsplats (as noted above), Tek6s, Tek4s, etc. Ranges need to be under 60 or so. I will allow pistol'd Recons, although you can have a max of 2 6rd clips. Clips on NFs/PSs can hold no more then 3 darts. Wingmen is the same except people are in teams of 2. We might try 2 teams if we have the time (we probably will)."

If anything in there is incorrect, correct me.

Meatgrinder and 3-15 with primaries and pistols are definate game types and will probably be the backbone of TANGO I. I am working on a 2x2ft. core which will be on 3 ft. legs. Carpe, Protect the VIP, and CTF are also being considered.

Any suggestions?

By the way, I do have another question: Is there a limit to the capacity of the clip on hoppers, Rscb's, etc? Also, I may need a nitefinder or 2 - one for me and one for my bro. If you or someone you know has an extra, could you bring them?

No capacity limits.

For the pistol round, I do have pistolsplats and nitefinders, though you might have to use long barrels with them to bring range down.

#309874 SOPA/PIPA and the Site Blackouts

Posted by Ozymandias on 21 January 2012 - 01:18 AM in Off Topic

The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 has already made it through Committee. Fuck. Next up is a house vote.

It will require ISPs to keep a record of your internet usage for 18 months, the information can be accessed if you are suspected of any crime, and the police do not need probable cause.

I'm trying to track down the date it goes before a vote.

Edit: From CNET, "A last-minute rewrite of the bill expands the information that commercial Internet providers are required to store to include customers' names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses, some committee members suggested. By a 7-16 vote, the panel rejected an amendment that would have clarified that only IP addresses must be stored."

Why is it the only time Congress can be bipartisan is when they're complete assholes?

#309799 SOPA/PIPA and the Site Blackouts

Posted by Ozymandias on 19 January 2012 - 07:11 PM in Off Topic

I wholeheartedly agree with this guy : Maddox's view.

Here is basically the problem with his idea: we've passed worse bills then this, with less fucks given.

The main thing that needs to happen is to convince normal people of all political viewpoints that this is a bad bill. Case in point, Glenn Beck has actually come out in opposition to SOPA, citing it as increased regulation (which, technically speaking, SOPA is).

Another option is getting rid of Smith himself. He has kept above 60% in his own district, but he might be forced out anyway. Texas is going to have to re- re-district after the DoJ told them they have to. Republicans hold the Texas house though, so Smith probably isn't going anywhere.

If this thing gos to the Supreme Court, we are truly fucked. They just ruled that Congress can take works out of Public Domain and put them back under copyright, so they probably would come down in favor of SOPA.

In it's current form, I think SOPA/PIPA would be vetoed, which means we need 34 Senators to be reliably against it to ensure it stays dead. We currently have 25 against, roughly 40 for it, and the rest are on the fence.

We're going into election season; make sure you and everybody you know gets registered, and find out where your representatives and senators stand on these bills.

#309742 SOPA/PIPA and the Site Blackouts

Posted by Ozymandias on 19 January 2012 - 02:34 AM in Off Topic

I know this has special meaning to some people (including me) so I am glad to see we could take part in this blackout. SOPA was canceled I believe so now its just PIPA.

SOPA was not cancelled. Smith will likely attach it to HR 1981, “Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011". In other words, support SOPA or you're a pedophile.

This is exactly how they (and by they I mean assholes on both sides of the aisle) passed indefinite detention of American citizens in section 1021 of the NDAA.

Time to head north.
