#298938 Cataclysm 2 - Chicagoland War

Posted by atomatron on 29 May 2011 - 07:22 PM in Nerf Wars

Good war. Build party was even better, Edwards.

+ No Cops
+ adequate weather
+ SUPA Pink darts
+ TOAD
+ Banan-ammo
+ Choco taco

+/- Location was smaller than I would have liked but was good for fast-paced rounds
+/- Prototype blaster didn't work well, but does function as designed
+/- ROAD TRIP ..in a small car

- Gnats
- Significant down time between some rounds

Fun fact; the nearest 7 11 is nearly 400 miles from where I live.

#297654 Improving accuracy and precision

For consideration as you didn't really touch on this:

The barrel wobbles in the coupler, this probably isn't a problem for most but it does happen.

Posted by atomatron on 19 December 2010 - 07:11 PM in Nerf Wars

WHAT HAPPENED TO EVERYONE?!

I got there at 1ish, and nobody was there... That's like the 8th time this has happened! From now on, I resolve to show up ON TIME

And we need to get more people to Nerf with us. TELL YOUR FRIENDS

Seriously, most males think Nerfing is pretty cool, and would not be opposed to it.

We were there until noon, Getting (everybody who's supposed to show up/host)'s numbers/contact info could help with this sort of thing.

It was pretty fun for just the four of us (Stark, his friend, Velveeta and myself), we played a few rounds, I tested out that camera mount dealie (I got like four minutes of footage) and everybody got snow in their shoes.

What time is this thing gonna be at? Cuz it's been entirely too long since I've lobbed some foam . . .

Lets start at 10.

#290576 Minnesnowta

Posted by atomatron on 10 December 2010 - 02:48 PM in Nerf Wars

I'm setting the day for this war as the 18th as it appears that the most amount of people will be able to go that day.

So feel free to post something for the next war if you can't go.

#289639 Mn War Council (planning)

I have made an unlisted google map which anyone can edit. Please consider marking up the map with parks you like and your own location.
http://maps.google.c...5dd622690057003

Good idea, I'll add the parks we frequent.

#289621 Minnesnowta

Posted by atomatron on 01 December 2010 - 02:15 PM in Nerf Wars

Arg, why do all the wars have to be on the opposite side of town... And on Saturday.

It's hardly then other side of town; it's like 10 miles from Columbia heights to Newell, that's a 20 minute car ride, not that bad.

Saturdays have been the choice day for nerfing since forever because most folks have them off, you're an exception but if another day during break works for you (like the 20th or January 2nd) say so.

I'd like to host this on a day when we can have the maximum number of people, if that happens to be a weekday or a sunday I'm down with it.

#288741 Snap-on Camera Mount

Posted by atomatron on 22 November 2010 - 06:48 PM in Homemades

Thanks for the feedback.

I've decided to ditch the down barrel view, I won't be able to aim with the camera there...

Yeah, a couple pieces of polycarb will do nicely to protect the lens/screen.

Brit, those are really cool. I might get a pair if I can find a job.

#288672 Snap-on Camera Mount

Posted by atomatron on 20 November 2010 - 10:18 PM in Homemades

I've been frustrated with how little I've been filming at wars, this is to make it easier to film. Turning (I'm taking this round out to take pictures) to (I'll just turn this on).

It's a variation of the current SNAP handle.

I used

-A section of 1+1/2" PVC
-Some piece of wood
-What I believe is a 1/4-20 1+1/2" machine screw (fits in the bottom of the camera)
-2 nails (you should use screws)

Make these:

Posted Image

Drill holes, screw the two together, drill a bigger hole for the bigger machine screw, insert it:

Snap to your SNAP/Rainbow/Bow:

Attach camera:

And take pictures

To Do/I'd like suggestions

-Protecting the back and the front of the camera while being able to access the buttons

-Vertical mount (view down the barrel)

#287706 Minnesota Haloween Nerf Out

Posted by atomatron on 30 October 2010 - 07:56 PM in Nerf Wars

It was still a good war, not the most fun I've had nerfing but good..

This war marks the two years for me. That's nearly 40 wars in total, assuming each war lasted about 6 hours: 10 full days..
Now enough about me

What went well:
+Free for all and dtc
+My bow and Rainbow preforming well throughout the day
+GETTING TWO KILLS WITH A STOCK MANTA, WEEEEEE!

What could have been better:
-manta ray getting cracked after being shot by my rainbow
-Taco bell mishearing my order
-getting really tired, which makes no sense because I did fine at Chano a few weeks ago..
-Beaver is going back to Puerto Rico, bad for nerf-dom in general

I'll post a thread at some point for a war in january... possibly.

#287656 Minnesota Haloween Nerf Out

Aw crap, this is at highland..

Now I NEED a ride.

#287655 Rainbowpump

Posted by atomatron on 29 October 2010 - 04:53 PM in Homemades

(Generic compliment on quality of the blaster and how cool/effective it looks)

Would putting a spring on the plunger rod between the steel bar and the back plate of the catch assembly work to make it dry fire-able?

Also; that plastic bin in the last pic is mine. I wondered where it was.

#287509 Minnesota Haloween Nerf Out

I could bring the ~600 stock darts I've amassed.

If anybody can give me a ride that'd be great.

#286943 Homemades Picture Thread

This is... BOW

Posted Image
it's about 4.5" tall, the barrel on it is 20". The cross section is identical to those on PACs and it can be taken apart down to the cross assembly.

Posted Image
Cutting this slot was a real pain, at the back there is a catch which can work but I found it sort of a pain and I have since made it so that it doesn't work.
It has an 11" draw and puts out 16 in^3.

Posted Image
I reamed out a 1/2"PVC coupler and attached it to the string for easier pulling, then there's a 1/2" to 1 1/4" bushing, a 1 1/4" coupler and the plunger tube of 1 1/4" PVC.

My RainBow; the pink and black

Posted Image

I used 1/2" ID polycarbonate for the plungertube (not advised as it costs 8 times more than PVC and there aren't any PVC fittings that really fit). I used a [k25], a magical 3/4" to 1/2" reducing coupler thing for the front and a 1/2" OD washer sandwich.

The handle is similar to PACs

Speed/vent holes are kind of important as there isn't much clearance around the catch mechanism for air to move.

Mine was dryfire-able before I added these:

The ride was worth it.

+Building a bow that was the coolest (ONLY true bow) on the field
+New Mobstacles
+using a hopper for most of a war and it was good.
+After using said hopper for most of the day, I appreciated how accurate my LS is
+FINDING $20 ON THE GROUND AT THE PARK
+Hangin' with the doods
+Road trip was pretty ok,
+I'm really glad we've switched to slugs
+Everybody that attended was quality
+Good mix of stuff on the field, I think shields add a lot to how shorter range blasters can be used
+I should have brought my manta

-Sorta crappy weather
-I burned through darts

#286160 Has Anyone Considered Making/using Sights?

Posted by atomatron on 27 September 2010 - 07:31 PM in Modifications

I've been using a sight for about a month now on my singled rfsg in which the CPVC speedloader acts as the front sight, it also indicates if the barrel is crooked in the coupler. I've personally found it practical up until about 90'.

The thing in it's entirety:

Mod party results:

Interchangeable stock for my RFDG:

Posted Image
Posted Image

A section of 1/2" PVC is hot glued into the stock attachment thing and then I bolted the PVC bit to the shell on both sides, (I intend to use the folding stock thing with this) also the raider stock is bolted all the way out.

Xbow fix:

Posted Image

I tapped the stock/worn out screw ports for 6-32 and cut bolts down to fit, works well so far.

We could get into the civil engineering building 9am to 5pm any weekday (it said those hours on the doors so this may not be the case, worth a shot though).
