Eclipse: 200+ FPS flywheeler

26 October 2017 - 08:02 AM

Review by Dennis Vilensky.

Hey guys, this is something I've been working towards for a while. It's a full envelopement flywheel system that runs on 180 brushed motors and fits in a stryfe without issue.

High FPS with buzz bee elites clones is 215.

Average with accufakes is 175, and with the RoF advantages of wheels, I'm expecting to be able to put up a fight in NIC games.

Wheels and printed cages should run about $30. Machined cages with wheels should go for around $70.

I'm hoping this can encourage the use of a more diverse range of blasters in NIC.

HvZ Endwar: Who's going?

21 June 2017 - 04:28 PM

Hey Everyone,

I know this forum is more oriented towards NIC class Nerf, but I was wondering if anyone is planning on coming to Endwar this year? I'll be there, and I'll have a booth or OpenFlywheelProject at Foamcon on Friday. I'd love to meet any other NH guys who are gonna be there.

Releasing Rayven, Multistage, and RS Flywheel CAD

Cages should be printed in 2 pieces. The "guide caps" are not strictly necessary, but fully enclose the dart during its path through the wheels, and help accuracy. Cages should be printed face down, with the motor holes point up.

These are totally open source, feel free to modify and reproduce these as much as you want, just credit myself and u/qxtman on reddit.

Further development will include higher crush cages with critical velocities >140 FPS. Those are complete but awaiting chrony data.

If you have any questions or suggestions, PM me.

Happy New Year!

Releasing Rapidstrike Flywheel CAD

The above link is to a folder which contains a solidworks .prt file and an STL file for my flywheel cage for RS (and stryfe, though I don't have Stryfe to measure). This is designed for an 8.5mm flywheel gap on stock wheels, which should theoretically hit about 140FPS. This design is UNTESTED, I'm waiting on my friend to print some over winter break. If you use it, I'd love feedback.

I'm releasing this in the spirit of pushing forward the Hobby, because there are no open source cages that I'm aware of. Feel free to use, modify, etc. as you see fit. As long as you credit me, I'm happy. I have no desire to sell this particular cage, if you think you can, go ahead. If you want other file types, let me know and I'll supply them if I can.

Future goals in this project are a hyperfire cage, a single-piece multistage system, and experimenting with different geometries. If you have other stuff you'd like me to persue, let me know. I need a winter break project.

If there are specific gaps for certain flywheels that people want, let me know. That dimension is very easy to change.

Credit: 95% of this was done by measuring stock parts. Flywheel gap was chosen based on reported measurements of the Artifact Red system.
