I've seen a few topics with guns and parts available for sale, of the creator's own design. The maker in me likes seeing the 3D printed stuff too, but how many people are actually doing this? Is there much of a niche for selling such designs in parts or whole in the hobby?

Do any of the wikis or any of that have lists of patents? Having hit a couple of wars this semester at school, I've had a few ideas on how to make guns that work better than the current set, but the two big worries are patents and liability. It'd be nice to see about standing on some giant's shoulders, rather than start from scratch myself. Liability is something I'd have to talk to a lawyer about anyway, so I'm not too concerned about that here. Big thing is I'm be looking at production and selling commercially eventually, and would be catering mostly to modders and serious gaming folk by revealing details of designs intended for easy experimentation, and offering a line already set up for higher velocities.
