Superlative Plunger Head Problem

29 June 2010 - 07:13 PM

Alright, so this last week I've been gathering parts and everything to make my SNAPbow. It's been going pretty well, I got the body made in just a few minutes, but then after testing to see what length I needed to cut the trigger nail to, I encountered a problem. This is the basic rundown:

The plunger head normally:

The only differences here are that I have a slightly wider Nylon spacer since there was no exact sizing in the thread, but whatever. That shouldn't affect anything negatively on the seal.

After pulling it into the plunger tube (from the back, like you would prime it, not pushing it in)

Yeah, what the hell. Obviously it just slides over, but this is a big problem, since half the time it creates a much larger cup on one side than the other, causing me to have a shitty seal, or none at all. I thought it was just that I didn't have the wing nut tight enough, so I tightened that a little bit more, but that didn't help. Then I thought it may just be the larger washer just sliding around a little bit on the steel washer underneath, so I added a second 1 1/4" washer under that to make a "sandwich". This off-centering happens even when pulling it into the tube I make sure it's even on all sides, and I'm not sure why. It may be a slight pull from one side more than the other, but that's going to happen at least a little bit in a war situation, so this concerns me.
Any thoughts / remedies to this situation?

Big Salvo Help - Problem Solved.

30 May 2010 - 06:43 PM

EDIT: Okay, if you're going to read the below text, the one tank that still leaks is leaking out of the barrel; the back is fine. What can I do to fix this? Just goop around it?
Alright, so a couple weeks ago I got a Big Salvo from a garage sale, and it worked just fine; good pump, tanks held pressure just fine, and didn't leak. Then I dremeled off the AR plates on the front, and checked to make sure the air tanks were'nt leaking, because I've heard the gun is really finicky. Still nothing, so I took a small sanding drum and sanded it out a little bit. Then all 4 were leaking. Now, I really don't understand how these tanks work, I've heard them being called "backpressure tanks", and having the 4 stage trigger. I thought that maybe some debris got into the tank, because I've heard that can also cause them to leak. Nothing came out, so I went and took a bit of compressed air and blew that in there to make sure nothing was in there. They were all clear, but still leaked. So today I went and sealed up the backs with Plumbers Goop, since that's where I thought they were leaking from. It worked for 3 of them, so that's awesome, but one is still leaking, and I've COATED the entire back with goop, and still leaking. It's not the tubing, I know it's coming from the tank itself. Could it be leaking out the barrel somehow...? I'm not really sure what to do here.
Here's a couple pics if it helps, but it's rather hard to see up close, considering my only camera is off of my cell phone.

Here's the barrel, there's no visible debris in there, apart from one glob of plastic that you can see that was already there, when it worked. I've tried moving it with my finger, but it must be melted.

Any input would be appreciated.

Problem Solved, Disregard.

Alright, normally I wouldn't post a stupid question thread like this, because I'm sure after tinkering around with this for a couple more weeks I would find the answer myself, but I'm going to a war tomorrow and need some help with this.
So, I got a Quadshot last week at TRU, and soon stuck a clip on there because I didn't want to deal with the annoying task of getting a good plunger-turret seal. What I've done to the gun is add a longshot spring to the stock one, lube the plunger head a bit for a slightly better seal, and stick a Sch.40 1/2" PVC coupler on there for my clip. I've also done Badwrench's torsion spring reorientation for reinforcement, and dremel out the stopper on the back of the plunger rod. The clip holds four 2" stefans out of the Lowe's brand foam; It's thin foam compared to some, so it can slide into CPVC without twisting, and has a tight, but not too tight fit. My barrel is very lightly flared out to prevent misfires, and is 6" long.
The problem I'm having is that no matter what I've tried thus far, I can't get a consistent clip off. I've searched for the last day or two trying to find some answers, and I have--- somewhat. This is the best answer that I've found so far. Nerfer34 has some troubleshooting down at the bottom as well, which I followed, but no luck.
What happens is about 80 or 90% of the time, the first shot of the four is just fine; I'm getting around 75 to 80 feet, just what I hoped for, and it's pretty accurate. But what it's done today is I then fire the second dart, and it fires the rest of the entire clip about 40 feet. I honestly have no idea what's going on at this point; I've tried using 17/32" Brass as my barrel because my darts are tighter in that than CPVC, but it still shotgun loads--- except about 25 feet less range. I've tried a different piece of CPVC, thinking that maybe that one was just 2 or 3 hundredths of an inch wider, but no cigar.
If it helps any firther, here's a picture of my set-up:

It's just CPVC sanded a little bit and hammered into Sch. 40 PVC.

Nb-1 Missle Blaster "modification"

31 January 2010 - 08:16 PM

Alright, so after being validated a few days ago I guess, I just looked up near my controls to find the "re-send validation" thing was gone, I decided to post something to "contribute" to the NIC here. Anyway, I picked up this neat little blaster at Goodwill last week, and planned to modify it. It was in just about perfect condition, the original stickers and paint still had that glossy look, but the ammo holders were gone and no ammo. Nevertheless, I bought it for two dollars. Keep in mind while reading, this really isn't much of a mod, rather than a showcase of the NB-1 Missle Launcher, since I've found very little on it when searching.
Without further rambling, I'll get on with this "mod".

Materials:

-Your Blaster.
-6 inches of OMC PETG (Thickwall)
-Electrical Tape

Just from that list you can tell it's going to be the hardest mod ever.

Honestly, I love this thing. It may suck ass, it may be wierd looking, but that's exactly it, it's a misfit--- like me. Notice the tiny air output, if you can even see that. Sorry for the blurry pics occasionally, my phone has a good camera in it, but it's hard to steady due to its round shape.

So let's get started. First you're going to want to cut off that long black "barrel" right at the nub. When you're done, it'll look something like this:

Posted Image

Next you're gonna want to de-burr that and widen the air output hole just a bit.

Posted Image

After widening that as much as you want to, next we're going to take the black piece that has the hose connected to it off of the main shell, (don't worry, it comes right off, just wiggle it around and pull it off) and wrap it with some e-tape.

Posted Image

As you can see so far, this is pretty self-explanatory. Just wrap enough e-tape around it until your desired barrel material (PETG or Brass would be best, it wouldn't build up enough pressure to launch a dart out of CPVC) fits on there snugly.

Posted Image

Then you're done! In this mod I wanted to keep as much of the stock look as possible, which is why I used PETG. Make sure to use a loose (but not too loose) fitting barrel material, since this gun really doesn't build up any pressure at all, to be honest and could'nt launch a dart out of CPVC.

Q and A:

Q: How do you even use this blaster, I've never even seen it before.
A: You pull the black handled pump out, and just push it back as fast as you can for the most part, to fire the dart / arrow.

Q: What else could you do besides this barrel replacement?
A: Not much, sadly. You could possibly overhaul this thing (lol) by taking off the black hose and the port it connect to and put a barrel straight on that, so the air isn't directed through a hose. You'd have to fire it backwards though, which would be kind of awkward, even more so than this blaster is already. An idea I also had was to take maybe two rather powerful extension springs, hook them on maybe where the ammo holders would be, and to the pump as well, so you can add a bit of accuracy.

Q: Where are the screws?
A: There acually are none on this blaster, the shell is just glued together, I guess.

Q: Why the hell did you even bother to mod this?
A: I was bored, and for shits and giggles.

To anyone who sees this at a Thrift Store or Garage sale, I'd say buy it. It's really a fun and nostalgic blaster if anything, especially if you can get it for under $10 or so. And as far as ranges go, I'm not going to bother measuring. I'd say maybe 8 feet. Yeah, really.
