B.A.N.O. Revamp?

25 July 2013 - 01:24 AM

It's been a long time since I last hosted a war, due to a busy summer, but I've been looking forward to August, since it's when my schedule clears entirely. Are there any users from Norcal/ The Bay Area that would like to attend? It's hosted at William Cann Neighborhood Park, in Union City from 10:00 until we get tired (4:00 or so). Rules will be posted if there's any interest shown.

Sunday Nerf in Novato, California

20 March 2013 - 11:16 PM

I'm sharing this here for someone from the Novato Nerf Nation Facebook group, so if you're in the Bay Area and interested, then you should check it out.

They host weekly wars on Sunday afternoons, usually from 3:00 P.M. to 6:30, and the location changes from week to week.
For more info on the rules, locations, etc. here's the Facebook group page and here's their next event.

I hope to see some of you at their upcoming events.

TARC: Team America Rocketry Challenge

20 February 2013 - 12:34 AM

Has anyone else participated in TARC at their local school/youth group/etc.? I did it this year, and my team qualified, so we'll be heading to Washington D.C. for Nationals in May, and it'd be pretty sweet to see and/or meet some nerfers there. If you did do it, what results have you had? What fatal errors have you had? Any interesting stories to share?

For anyone who doesn't know what this is, we essentially have to:
"Build and fly for a qualification score before March 25, 2013, a model rocket that carries one raw egg “on its side” to an altitude of 750 feet, stays airborne for between 48 and 50 seconds using a 15-inch-diameter parachute as the sole recovery system, having a gross liftoff weight of no more than 650 grams, and a rocket motor no bigger than 80 N-sec of total impulse (power class “F”). "

I think this should be fine in Off-Topic, if I'm wrong, Moderators please close this.

BANO #4: Kicking off the season

23 December 2012 - 03:53 AM

Hey everyone, I'm planning another Bay Area nerf war, sometime in mid to late November, and I'd need to know what weekends work best for everyone. (Yes, weather is a factor, so we'll re-schedule if the day we pick gets rained out.)
This war will also be sort of a "debut" for the new Norcal nerfing group, B.A.N.A.N.A, Bay Area North American Nerf Alliance. It's my attempt at helping share and promote all the various nerf and HVZ events around here so we can get more people to show up, and create a tighter community. What does that mean exactly? Not a whole lot, but for people that attend I'm going to set aside a bit of time to talk about it, and shoot ideas back and forth.
Location: William Cann Neighborhood park, Union City CA
DATE: Jan. 26th from 11:00 a.m. til whenever we get tired! (usually around 4 or 5)
Same rules as usual, no ridiculously overpowered blasters, no sharp objects in your darts, and no 3/0 weighted, or slingshot darts.
There's a burger place a short walk/drive away from the park that we usually go to for lunch, and we usually do lunch around 1 or 2.

Gametypes: Team Deathmatch, capture the flag, pistol rounds, etc. (And maybe defend the core...)

Dart restrictions: No pointed objects (thumbtacks, nails, etc.) can be in your darts, no exposed metal, wirewrap darts, slingshot and 3/0 darts are pending my approval, I'll say no unless you send me pictures of them and they're not poorly made. Missiles, arrows, balls, and other oversized foam ammo is allowed.

Blaster Restrictions: Use common sense (No realistic blasters), no singled cobras, titans, roto rockets, or homemade air blasters unless you put shotgun barrels on them, with at least 3 barrels on them. Plugged big blasts, LBBs, and similar air blasters are banned unless they've got a perfectly functioning OPRV. I reserve the right to spot ban blasters, so I'd advise you bring a back up (You should always bring a back up anyways)Melee is allowed

What to bring: Water, blasters (Primary, secondary, and bringing back-ups is a good idea.) darts (Stock or stefans) and EYE PROTECTION! If you don't bring any, you're not allowed to participate! Optional: Stuff to trade and/or sell, nerfy stuff for the raffle, etc.

P.S. If you're not a member of any NIC forums and need to message me, do so at Righteousfondue (at) yahoo.com

All attendees must be 13 years or older to attend, and I reserve the right to kick anyone out if they're disobeying the rules set, and enforced by me.

Heads up all, looks like rain, so the war is pushed back to the 24th.

DISCLAIMER: By attending this war, you have to A. Allow me to show your likeness in my war videos which will be posted on youtube, or B. Wear a mask of some sort to cover your face, I'm not going to go and edit your face out just because you didn't listen to my rules. If you don't want to do either of these things, then you're not welcome at my war, and I will have to ask you to leave.

PETG Couplered Panther

09 December 2012 - 01:24 AM

First off I'd like to give a big shoutout to the good people on the Nerf Modders Welcome for all the advice on various projects of mine, and the wonderful collaboration between members. This mod in particular I got off of Just Some Bob, or Bob O` Bob, when he found out that PETG fit snugly into the wider part of the Panther barrel. I've done this on 3 panthers so far, and this one was done for a friend, hence the random scuffs and gunk on the shell. I apologize for the potentially large crappy pictures, it's late, the lighting in my garage sucks, and I wasn't using the best camera.
Let's start.
First, open up your blaster, I for one simply snap off the orange tip, since I never have any use for it, and have managed to do so without damaging the shell in the past.

Sand it smooth if you want
Posted Image
Cut here with a dremel, pipe cutter, hack saw, or anything you really want.
Posted Image
From here on out, you're going to want to keep your blaster pumped to keep plastic debris out of the tank (Also learned this trick from Bob)
Posted Image
Break this peg off, it doesn't have to be clean, just do it any way you can
Posted Image
From here, use any sanding bit on your dremel that will fit, I used a conical sanding bit, and another weird sanding drum that didn't have sand paper, but was a solid piece of coarse material on all sides. I don't know if this is entirely necessary, but I did it anyways. (Shaky picture, sorry)
Posted Image
Take the stock barrel, and mark it where the ridges are near the front of the barrel, then again where it normally connects to the AR chamber
Posted Image
Sand the openings so they're sloped and it's easier to put barrels in, then wrap it in tape (I used packing tape) and glue it into the stub, with the wider end of the barrel sticking outwards.

From here you can plug the pump if you want, but I chose not to.
Finished product!

Group shot with my panthers

Ranges? I have no idea at all, it depends how your PETG fits your darts, whether or not you plugged it, if you put 17/32" brass in the PETG, etc.
I use short PETG barrels with 17/32" inside them for stock darts, and I get at least 60' flat. That's probably a really low estimation, but I've never been able to actually measure any of my ranges, I think I can do a firing test video at the HVZ game I'm going to tomorrow, with a tape measure and some chalk, so look for that some time soon.
Thanks for reading!
