Im not trying to be a snot nosed kid but if I am correct i think you guys are trying expand your community here at nerfhaven, and its easily the best nerf site there is. There is so many resources here, I ask a question that can be the most newbish and within 1 minute i have 1-2 replies fillled with all the information I need. But I feel that some of the new people here get "shot down" a lot. And over silly things too. I know I have bad grammar but i think some people take it a little too seriously. If you cant understand what im asking, dont post in my topic. If you dont like me or dont like my posts, dont read them. I think that some people are a little too upset about these things and this isnt gonna bring new people into this community. Also I have noticed some people get really upset over people mentioning ebay auctions. Now this is just an example of a noob breaking a rule and i completley understand why its so frusterating and everything to have this autcion you are bidding on exposed, but these kids get beat up a little hard. I think a way to prevent this is to maybe PM newcomers the list of rules, and ask them to read it, or take the main points out for them to read. I understand that I may be a little out of line on saying all this. I think I have maybe 15 posts or less on this site, and im pretty new, plus I have no authority on this site and dont run any of it or have contributited to it by showing a list of all the mods or a video directory (which was SWEET watching by the way today, kept me occupied, lol) But I figured I would just voice my opinon. I will appreciate all the help from everyone, and keep this site running.

To tell you the truth, I sort of agree with you. There are many new people that get banned for doing the silliest things. The admins can be harsh at times. The members themselves can be harsh too. For example, when i posted a thread about my shittiest creation (my firefly whose plunger cracked after a few shots), i said i had done some mods and i didn't post them because i didn't want people to copy them. People automatically assumed that i was talking about some uber-important-life-changing mods. The reason i didn't want people to copy was because they would mess up their twenty dollar fireflies like i did. When i read the comments i was speechless at the disgusting comments some people wrote. For all of you wondering how i achieved around 86 feet with my firefly, here are the mods.

AR removal
Brass Barrel Replacement
Add Cut-Down Industrial Spring
Modification to the plunger system to make the gun cock about 2.5 cm more
Enlarged holes in the back of turret slightly

Oh, and did i mention the shots were angled? If i didn't, i would like to point out that they were. If you want to know how i made the plunger rod move back more, please PM me and i'll make a write up. I am sorry for the problem i caused, and i'll remember to type down my comments in a clearer manner next time.

In the end, you just need to understand that the admins are trying their best to keep everything under control. Members in the haven can be skeptical and mean, but you just have to learn that they have a reason for it. You just have to get used to it, cause that's the way things roll around here.

While I value your opinion, I'm kind of wondering how you missed the Code of Conduct. This is the "List of Rules" that govern our society. You read it before you signed up, I hope.

Don't get me wrong, though. I used to be quite a noob, with very many (deliberate, I might add) spellings errors. I asked pointless questions. I was put in line quickly.

That's because we don't usually cut people much slack. When you signed up, you agreed to the Code, agreed that you would abide by it's laws. So, if you persistantly break the rules, your membership doesn't really belong here.

Sorry if that came off as harsh, but that's just the way it works here. We call it "Haven" because we want to keep it as close to that as possible.

On a side note, you seem to know what you're talking about. You're not like most other noobs. I hope you don't get suspended.

There's a lot of fucking backseat moderating, and it gets on my nerves more often than not. Unfortunately that is simply the byproduct of the standards that we've been trying to adhere to. If we, as site owners, and now ambassadors are going to hold people to a high standard, then those that were held to that standard will always seek to hold others to it as well. Personally, now that we have a solid core of articulate members I really don't sweat the small stuff anymore. But those people that make up that core base aren't apt to let you slide on what they themselves were held to. So suck it up and don't let it bother you. If you're doing your best to be understood and none of the site staff has said anything to you, there's no reason to listen to the surrogate moderators.

You make an excellent point and a valid one as well, in my opinion. And don't consider this a plug by any means, but it's well known that at NerfHQ, it's a more laid back atmosphere where rules like grammar and what you complain about aren't upheld as much. There is also less backseat moderation, is my sense.

And most users visit both sites and just tend towards one more frequently.

Sorry to offend you since if I remember correctly, you are one of the moderators at NerfHQ. There isn't as much members there as there is here, meaning if you ask a quick question it may take a while to get an answer. Here, it is quite quicker. Also, NerfHQ has alot more concept and design threads.
I do however post sometimes on NerfHQ, but I still prefer NerfHaven. Again, sorry if this offended you in any way.

I understand where you're coming from as a new member, but you have to understand this isn't exactly a newcomer-friendly environment compared to other forums. The Code of Conduct exists for a reason, and we ask that new users read and understand it in order to participate on the boards. Messaging all the new members with a list of the rules and board policies would be not only a waste of time on our part, but totally redundant. It is up to the user to read and comprehend the easily outlined and easily accessible board rules and guidelines, and they are more than welcome to PM any of Ambassadors or Founders like VACC or myself if they have any questions. We can only do so much to educate folks and at the same time keep things running smoothly. If someone is too dense to figure that out, well - then, like VACC said, the core group of members will let you know what's up often times. I can't think of anything else to add to this that's already been stated many times before.

I think it's good that you're voicing your opinion, however, you are still fairly new to the site (like you pointed out yourself). I don't want this to turn into what happened last time a bunch of relatively new people rallied in support of shit they didn't fully understand due to the fact that they haven't been here as long as some other members have. I'm not trying to come off as an elitist prick, that's just the way things go around here. Savvy?

1. Good spelling/grammar will help you get more answers to your questions, if people can't read your posts, they can't help you. Plus it gets kind of annoying to read posts with lots of mis-spellings. Adding a spell checker to your internetz isn't that hard.
2. Some people do blow shit out of proportion, which sucks, and backseat moderating is annoying as fuck.

No offence taken and it's true I'm a moderator at NerfHQ. I'm also a member of NerfHaven and use it frequently, especially for wars. Each site has it's strength. We try to accommodate new nerfers and hope to make the answers to their questions more readily accessed through the wiki. However, I've never noticed NerfHq to be slower to respond than NerfHaven, if anything the opposite, albeit we have many off-topic posts.

We are one community, not two competing sites and I hope the community understands that. As a moderator at NerfHQ for multiple years now, I'm still friends with some members of the NerfHaven team. There are no hostilities between us, six-five-two, we just cater to different audiences. And I'm sure Groove, OMC, CX, or VACC would all tell you that NerfHQ certainly caters better to new nerfers and is more accepting of poor grammar.

I'm going to offer the opposing opinion, of a newcomer to this site. I like the high standards. I think if you're old enough to have an account on the haven, then you should be old enough to spell and conjugate. I know that language can sometimes be a bit tricky, so here's what I do for a little assistance when I'm not 100% sure. Highlight your entire post, copy and paste into your word processing program, run spell check, copy and paste back into your post. Simple.

There's also the argument of the code of conduct, and everyone else is completely right about this. You agreed to abide by the admins rules; therefore, it's your job to make sure you're following them. I think this site helps teach people to not be lazy about their communication skills, which in my opinion is a community service in itself.

However, I do agree that things can be a little harsh here. Maybe people should be able to have a warning, or a certain amount of posts to be properly spelling and conjugating. This may already be in place, but you have to admit that it would get frustrating having to very frequently make corrections that should have been avoided. So I can see why it is harsh, it must be a pain in the ass to baby sit members who can't spell. If I remember correctly, they teach this in school.

There is one thing I DETEST on this forum more than anything. I am NOT going to ban this kid, but everyone needs to learn something. This is NOT a place for freedom of speech. What you say would hold true in a public place but not here. We have rules and if you CHOOSE not to follow them, there are consequences. The higher standard Vacc spoke about is exactly that. I was INVITED to join this site back in the early days. INVITED. That means they liked me enough to let me in. It sounds very elitist when you say it, and it should.

I guess I am really to blame because I flip flop on the issue of new members all the time. I am the first to open the flood gates to let people in, but at the same time, I am always first to ban new dipshits. It's a double-edged sword, but a necessary evil of trying to weed out the idiots. I TRULY believe (although lately I have been questioning that), but in the sea of mtreldon's and other assorted douche bags, there will be one Talio, FA24, CaptSlug, Zero Talent, or Frost Vectron (the list goes on). If 1% of our current users elevated to that status, I would be amazed. It IS a possibility though.

Bottom line, get your shit together or get out. Stop bitching and DO something about it. Continue to do your part and we will handle the general douche baggery. I know this has been said before, but it is the truth.

Vacc is 100% on the money. You should take some time and go back over my earlier posts, and I mean WAY earlier. I was a dipshit back in the early days, but an articulate one at that. More importantly, I NERF. That is a standard above all forum lurking is held. If you can put up on the field, then you are welcome here. Case in point is FA24. I didn't know WHAT to think about a body builder guy who came on here with these crazy mods and NEVER SHOWED HIS FACE. Then he comes to APOC, from fucking CANADA, and gives me THE longest lasting bruise from a nerf gun I've ever had, and turns out to be a level headed and all around cool guy (who could easily have torn my own arms off and beaten me to death with them, but that's neither here nor there). I think I have digressed long enough. I hope you can all learn something here.
