One question.......
Is flat Level? Because I know level is flat.
Until a standard is set there won't be any consistency in distance reporting. Your responses are greatly appreciated. Later Mod
p.s. aspects like accuracy and dependability seem like a equally worthwhile pursuit...just a thought.
p.s.s. Please direct your flame responses thru pm's if you would. The negativity thing is a downer...

What bothers me more than exaggerated distances is that so few people bother post any kind of deviation in their ranges. I would much rather see the difference between the minimum and the maximum range for a given gun than just seeing the absolute furthest it's firing.

Obviously, it would be easier to just stand at the beginning of the tape measure, but technically, that would add anywhere from a few inches to (potentially) a few feet, depending on what nerf gun you are testing and how you are holding it.
On the other hand, someone who measures from the muzzle subtracts a bit of distance.
An extreme example: Holding a BBB one-handed at arms length. With my arm length being around 2 feet, plus (estimating from memory here) about another 2 feet composing a cocked BBB with 6-8 inch barrel...All together, it's around abouts 4 feet.
Personally, I have measured all of my own ranges from the muzzle to where the dart lands. but that resulted in what seems to be quite short ranges compared to the norm. I'm sure its mostly my fault for modding badly or using too big/small darts, but I wondered if this was adding to the (really crappy) ranges I got on my BBB. I mean, it barely outranged my modded NF!

My opinion can be summed up in four words: Who gives a shit?
People blatantly lying about their ranges irks me but someone usually calls them out and makes them look like a dumbass anyway. Really, I see no point in measuring ranges at all unless you're doing a nice clean writeup, and even then you could simply say your gun gets average range compared to others (just about all Big Blasts top out around 80-100', NFs at 50-70', etc., and that isn't that great of a difference).
Most people will probably disagree with me but that's just my two cents.
