You win WratH? I guess I could've rattled off a list of all the Power Metal I know too...:P

Shorty - were you able to find any Biss, Black Masquerade, or any of my other recommendations?

Sorry Spectre, I forgot I wasn't supposed to be arguing, some things really bother me though.

Sam, decent list, in case you were looking for some clarity by saying "(I think)":

Arch Enemy, At The Gates, Behemoth, and Necrophagist are all Death Metal.

DragonForce is really Power Metal, but the only real difference between Power and Speed in my mind is the lyrical themes.

Black Dahlia(though many people argue they are Death Metal), BTBAM are Metalcore.

Not sure which Sedition you mean. There's been at least 4 Seditions with equal popularity that I can think of.

Long has the debate raged whether Tool is, in fact, metal or not. I say nay, but that is one point that I can easily see both sides of. Jesu is Industrial Metal(Not sure there's such a thing as post-rock metal. Post-rock is usualy too light to be considered metal in my mind.) however.

Good list though.

Uhh no...only 'cause you didnt list your recommendations like others did where I can just copy and paste on YouTube. But I'll try Biss and Black Masquerade later.

If you like Kamelot, take a look at Effeminatea. Their lead vocalist- Simone Simons- did some guest vocals on the Balck Halo album. Pretty much anything in WratH's post should be to your liking as well. If you don't mind slightly less "clean" vocals, Korpiklaani is good stuff. Hmm, other good bands would be Iced Earth, Artension, Dream Theater, Edguy, Elis, Labyrinth, The Liquid Tension Experiment, Luca Turilli, Sirenia, Within Temptation (a little more Gothic Rock than metal, but still good :nugget:), and of course, the guitar god himself, Yngwie Malmsteen.

As for classic metal, I'm surprised no one's mentioned Blue Oyster Cult, though I guess more people see them as psychadelic than metal. Helloween definitely fits, though :P

Anthrax
Cannibal Corpse
Exodus
Lamb of God
Megadeth
Metallica
Pantera
Slayer
Testament
Venom

These are mostly older bands, all of them are pretty decent by some standard or another. A few aren't very well known compared to others. I doubt you'll like some of these, but again, they're all metal and they're all good.

~Zach

Exodus and Metallica were formed 1 year a part. Exodus has turned to more screamo though. Manowar's song King of Kings is simply amazing. I must add Bloodbath and Dimmu Borgir although they are black metal and are sort of devil worship.

Exodus has turned to more screamo though.

Now thats some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Their newest album(which I'm guessing you're referring to) is some of the thrashiest thrash I've ever heard, I honestly don't know where you're coming from on this. Have you ever heard actual screamo?

What the fuck? What does it matter that they were formed one year apart? Do you know what Thrash(commonly pronounced Trash, incorrectly) is? It is not screamo. I saw them open for Hatebreed a year ago and it was probably the best goddamn show I've seen.

  • Alchemist(Progressive Metal)
  • Am I Blood(Thrash)
  • Amon Amarth(Death Metal)
  • Amoral(Death Metal)
  • Be'lakor(Melo. Death)
  • Dark Tranquillity(Melo. Death)
  • Decapitated(Tech. Death)
  • Despised Icon(Death Metal)
  • Desire(Doom Metal)
  • Devin Townsend(Progressive)
  • Dimmu Borgir(Melo. Black)
  • Gojira(Death/Trash)
  • Katatonia(Death)
  • Mekong Delta(Prog. Thrash)
  • Mercenary(Melo. Death)
  • Mors Principium Est(Melo. Death)
  • Meshuggah(Death/Thrash)
  • Opeth(Progressive)
  • Persefone(Progressive)
  • Psychotic Waltz(Progressive)
  • Soilwork(Melo. Death)
  • Wolfpack Unleashed(Melo. Thrash)
Some Metalcore:
  • All That Remains
  • As I Lay Dying
  • August Burns Red
  • Becoming The Achetype
  • Protest The Hero
  • It Dies Today
  • Still Remains

  • Meshuggah all the way
  • Mushroomhead
  • Slayer

  • Wintersun

Other stuff?

Try out the Mars Volta.

Try old Black Label Society, the albums "Stronger than Death" and "Sonic Brew" are brutally cool.

I could name a million other bands you should listen to...

Is it particularly their style(lyrics, type of guitar)?

Couple more suggestions:
X Japan
Shadow Gallery
Symphony X(Think it was mentioned already though)

Also - 'A7X', GNR, and SOAD are not metal - not sure on Satan's Messenger, but from what I've heard they're not metal.

If anyone is into crossover thrash, I reccomend The Exploited (their newer stuff), DRI, and Municipal Waste.

If anyone wants to talk about punk, though, I've got a bigger list.

This is more not funny than your first comment. Emo music is the shit. But forget about that.

The only metal I listen to is System of a Down, and only about half. I'm not a big metal person.
