He was saying the GPU was integrated on Macs in general, not the iPhone. My assumption was that you needed to buy a whole new machine rather than just a new GPU.

My PC runs just about as fast as it did when I bought it without any defrags, but I'll take your word for it.

First off, I agree with OMC almost entirely. I hate Apple products. They really arent user friendly and make ver little sense to use. I do however own an iPod, purely for the availability of 3rd party products that are compatible. I will mention that it is my second becuase (no surprise) the first one shit the bed for no reason at all. There are so many other products that are far better than teh iPod, and as soon as mine breaks again (which it undoubtedly will) I will be getting something else.

Back to the iPhone.
From everything I have read, it costs several hundred more than most smartphones and similar products, ut does far less. It can only run on AT&T, you have to buy an overpriced 2 year plan with them as well. Touch screens are no good because they easily get smeared, smudged, cracked, and scratched. The applications for the iPhone are nowhere near as numerous or usefull as those for other phones. Also, the lack of entry into the shell causes problems. If a battery were to go bad, the only way to fix it is to ship it off for repairs. Any other phone if something goes wrong you go buy a battery, pop open the cover, and swap it. Im also a fan of SIM cards, which the iPhone of course would never have because it makes sense. The only possible plus is that it plays music. However, most people who purchase one I assume probably already own an iPod, so whats the point?

In summary, iPhones are a waste of time and money. None of the two dozen or so reviews Ive found around the web have been possitive. For anyone that wants one, go for it. Just remember that you made a fool out of yourself for falling for one of the biggest marketing scams in a long long while.

So, for those of you who don't read digg or keep up with the news.

We have, the guy trying to steal the reporters microphone instead of one of only 4 iPhones in the country.
The iPhone root password has been cracked. Pity there's nothing to do with it yet.
Oh and yeah the iPhone cleared 500,000 units this weekend I hear.
The iPhone has now been completely disassembled.
You can use it as a prepaid phone by entering a fake social security number.

And most importantly the iPhone firmware has been leaked/downloaded.
Nothing can be done at the moment, there's a lot of encryption and shit.
But time will tell.

Sort of right, sort of wrong.

The Mac Mini uses integrated graphics (which uses shared main memory). The iMac generally uses a Radeon x1600 (integrated graphics on the lowest end model). The Mac Pro and the 22" iMac use an NVIDIA 7300. So, they're generally not integrated graphics (which really aren't great for performance), but they still aren't replacable (unless you spring for a Mac Pro).

In summary: if you're a gamer, you probably don't want a Mac. But like that's news.

Well, I wasn't trying to say they were bad for gaming. Someone, maybe Jergling?, was arguing that integrated graphics were better for graphics and whatnot and also said that Macs have integrated graphics for the most part, which I was trying to say was bad, even if you're not a gamer.

Yeah, we're saying pretty much the same thing...I'm just extending on it. As a whole, hardcore gamers are much more likely to want to upgrade their video cards at some point, as well as being more demanding of their video performance*. I know that the only times I've ever upgraded video (PC or Mac) is when I was trying to play a game.

*This is changing with Aero and Quartz Extreme, but it's still overall pretty true.

Now that Apple is "in", it's trendy to hate on Apple's products to show how savvy and freethinking you are. It's ironic that the more-radical-than-thou crowd has managed to largely stifle actual criticism of Apple that goes beyond recital of the old chestnuts.

The iPhone has real problems and drawbacks. It needs an SDK, a rev2, and a price drop. It needs more fleshing out in areas like GPS. It needs a better carrier. But honestly, many of the people complaining about how much the iPhone sucks haven't done their homework. No SIM card? Fragile? Poor battery life? Just another smartphone? Impossible to type on? I guess being anti-trendy is the latest trend, but this is ridiculous. "Look at me, I'm cool for hating Apple! I'm hip! I'm rebellious, just like the rest of you!"

Most people criticizing Apple have real reasons. I'm not talking about them. For the few that this applies to, please at least do a little research first.

It's not trendiness, it's common sense. It's trendy to have an Ipod, it's not so trendy to carry around a Rio Karma circa 2002. But I do, because I enjoy quality over trendiness. Macs are still not that mainstream. Compare number of mac users vs. PCs. As far as the computer world, Apple is dead. However, they've moved onto bigger and better things such as trendy mp3 players and now phones, with easy enough to grasp interfaces. These products are for people who want trendy and a nice little package (the common buyer), not the most intuitive superior product. Most people don't give a rat's ass.

If the people want an Iphone, give them an Iphone.

You are making a mistake in reasoning. You claim that your mp3 player is objectively superior and support that by selectively discarding important factors of comparison. Specifically, most people find the iPod to be more aesthetically appealing and easier to use than its competitors. These are real features, as significant as hard drive size. You may not find the iPod to be superior in these regards. That's okay. You may also find that those features do not justify the higher price for you. That's also okay. But it doesn't make you better than everyone else.

As far as the computer world, Apple is dead. However, they've moved onto bigger and better things…

I'm assuming that this is a claim of fact rather than a troll. If so, you are mistaken. Apple is not abandoning or neglecting their computer business; they're simply expanding into other areas. In fact, their success in other areas has helped their computer business as those who like their other products try their computers.

I hate Apple, which is why a refuse to buy an Ipod, Iphone, or any other overpriced "I" junk. You can get Creative Zen or Muvo MP3/WMA/video player for 100+$ less than a stupid Ipod....

Apple is there to make boutique computers, it's that simple. They haven't improved their OS in years.
