The lighter idea? Complete waste of butane. It would take an actual torch to concentrate the heat enough to make any difference at all.
If you have access to a torch, you can also just cut it with that rather than heat it up and then cut it.

Anyone have a recommendation on what kind of method to use to cut a (presumably) steel AR15 action spring? I tried wire cutters and I can't get the part I want to cut into the bottom of the wire cutter so it isn't very effective. I also tried using a butane lighter to heat the section of the spring to weaken it, then cut it, but that also didn't work.
Before I had a dremel, I simply hot glued the spring (only the specific part of the spring i wanted to cut) to a piece of thin wood. Make sure you use a lot of hot glue. Wait until it dries, then take a hacksaw and cut away. Though, it will take a long time and will get hotglue stuck to your hacksaws teeth. You must pick off the hot glue from the blade every so often otherwise you blade will just be a thin piece of metal without teeth.

Alright, I'm having some issues with my Longshot's catch spring. When I have an Ace #49 and a LS spring in it, the catch seems to be too weak to hold the plunger back. I've added a couple more springs to the catch, but it's still not working. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it? If it helps at all, I've also done an angel breach.
This was the spring I put into my first LS and I had the same problem. I solved it (kind of) by cutting off about three rings of the spring with a dremel. It still had some problems with the catch on occasion but it wasn't worth the trouble for only 45-50 feet. I ended up just sticking with an nf spring for the same distance but no problems with the catch. But if you can get an AR15 spring, I have one in my newer LS and it's amazing.

*edit* And what rokor said is a definate must if adding any springs to a longshot. The catch only grabs a very little of the plunger, and will without a doubt slip if there's too much preasure on it.

Well I don't know much about longshot modding, but I know enough to get a longshot hit 90 feet. Anyway, try reinforcing the catch spring with a few dabs of hot glue.Alright, I'm having some issues with my Longshot's catch spring. The first one will reinforce the catch. The second one will make your gun's shoot farther. Thanks, but I figured it out - the added springs were breaking off of the catch. By reinforcing them with a few dabs of hot glue, do you mean reinforcing the bond between the spring and the catch, or doing something to the spring itself? I know FA24 did something involving springs and hot glue in his Doomsayer, but I'm not clear on what the effect was. I realize this is off topic, but could someone explain that for me?

Alright, first of all, if you've never modded a nerf gun before, the Longshot may not be your best bet to start. It's complicated, difficult to mod, and takes quite a bit of effort to get working well. Try a Nitefinder instead.Hi, I've never modified a nerf gun before, but have seeen how much better they can be. Can anyone help me modify my Longshot? Please?
If you are dead set on modifying it, however, there are lots of excellent write-ups here on Nerfhaven, both in the original post of this topic and in the Modifications directory. Look for one there that suits your needs. I would stay away from the Hereticorp Assault Rifle and FA24's Longshot Modification - they're probably a bit beyond you at this point. Work your way up.

About that link that modifies your LS to shoot taggers, does it weaken your the bolt? and does it leave room to integrate other modifications? Also is this the only Tutorial or way to modify your LS to shoot taggers?

I have a small problem though. The washer head replacement wasn't working at all for me, so I went out and found a new O-Ring for it. It seemed to be perfect.
It's called a "1'' Universal O-Ring". It was a bit smaller than the stock LS o-ring, so it took a tiny bit of stretching to get on the plunger head. It's about 2 times (maybe a bit less) thick though, so it made an amazing seal.
Now I have two problems which I think are connected. One is that when I try lubricating the plunger tube and then inserting the plunger rod and check to plunger tube again, it seems as if there isn't any lube any more. It looks to me as if it all got forced down to the bottom of the plunger tube.
Second is that once the gun is together (also when I try and pull the plunger rod out of the plunger tube) it's almost impossible to pull back. It's not the springs, it's a LS spring with a cut down AR-15 spring (Hereticorp's way). It seems like the O-Ring is either causing a lot of friction on the plunger tube because of the lack of a lot of lube, or it's creating too good of a seal.
I don't understand why though. When I just insert the plunger rod I can move it easily in and out. But once I screw it in and it's been in there for a while and I try and remove it (without the screws), it takes a crapload of force, me pushing on the breech opening slot side to remove the plunger rod.
How can I fix this? It seems like my O-Ring's fine when I'm just testing it out, but once it's all together it's a pain in the butt, practically un-usable. I have to prime the Bolt with the stock pushed against my chest and pull really hard.
This has spiraled beyond uselessness into utterly stupidy.
Read it again until you figure it out.

Hot glue. Hot glue it on. You can also glue a washer to it. Just search. When I finally put back the plunger tube, i noticed that the connectors looked really fragile, like I may have screwed it in too tight, and it looked like it would snap off if I were to add a new spring. Could anyone tell me if it would, or if i could somehow, strengthen it. I will try to get some pic.s if i can.
Oh, and I fixed up your post for you.

You post quality is unacceptable. Please correct your spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.i've modded my longshot a long time ago... only did the basic AR removal (the gehtto way if you must know, a hammer and a metal center punch-thingy). i have recently opened up my LS again, because i have moved stateside (i was in england) and it will be easier for me to get parts. while i was opening the spring thingy (dunno what you call it) its on the back of the dart thing that has the spring in it. when i opened it, and finally put it back, i notised (after screwing it back in) that it looked really fragile, like it may haved screwed it in too tight, and like if i added a new spring that it would snap off ........ could anyone tell me if it would, or if i could somehow streghten it.... i will try to get some pic's if i can.

I'm hoping to get another Longshot soon, and I have 2 questions about the bolt.
1 - What is the absolute best way to get the peg out of the gun without breaking that center bar that holds the dart? I'm thinking of seperating the orange part of the bolt and the black part that is inside of the plunger tube, but when I did that with my last Longshot, it shattered the black piece and fucked up my plunger. Is this the best way or should I try something else?
2 - Should I seal up that hole in the bolt?
And then, should I try putting a small strip of e-tape under the 2 o-rings on my plunger head to extend them out and increase the seal?
Thanks.
... to be able to get a better burst or sustained fire, rather than blowing the whole load at once.

1. Based on the color, looks like a new gen. I have only handled one of these, but I went to drill out the back of it, and the black part separated from the orange bolt. That made it real easy to cut the peg down.
Make sure you don't destroy that piece with the "center bar" because it provides a good attachment area to put the bolt back together.
2. If you are talking about the abou 1/32nd inch wide hole in the top, yes.
