So there was no major rebuilding required? It looks like the gun fit together very easily.

Thanks for the pics :D

Sure, no problem. There isn't much rebuilding to do. It's pretty much just chopping out the interior of the gun to make the plunger fit, cutting a gouge for the cocking mechanism, adding a few guides, and gluing in a trigger.

Shiny darts man, but did you watch the video? I am in NO WAY trying to make conflict, but it is a clearly circular yellow thing! Let me break it down...

Here are your "asshole" darts.
They are long, unbent pieces of Nerf brand foam that have a very nice hotglue job. Love the metal flake.

Here is a frame from Carrtoon's video, the moment he pulls the trigger.
Posted Image

Alls, well. Looks like a normal yellow dart flying toward the cardboard target.
But, low and behold, when the "dart" strikes the cardboard, this is what we find.
Posted Image

It looks like a yellow circle. Lets zoom in for a closer look...
Posted Image

Hmm... looks like some kind of ring is sticking to the cardboard. Is it a photoshop job? I dunno, it has a nice round shadow to match its... uh, roundness. May I reiterate, nerf darts are straight.
Again, while I may sound like I'm trying to start something, I'm merely trying to clarify what seems to me to be physically impossible. What is that ring?

I hope you're kidding. Stocks have a hole in them to fit over barrel pegs. asshole darts also have holes in them, because they're made with stock foam. The short shadow is just a lighting issue. I'm pretty sure the guy who shot the dart in his own video knows what kind of dart it is.

You all must be fucking kidding me.

He shot the god damn dart through the cardboard. If he were to turn the cardboard on it's side, you'd all see *gasp* the dart protruding from both sides.

The gun is powerful, and he only shot it from 10' away at the most.

It's not a ring. It's not "stuck" to anything, unless you count the interior of the cardboard.

Your name explains it all, Anothernoob. So no worries.

You obviously don't have a Nerf blaster that shoots through cardboard yet.

Most of us who are rolling our eyeballs back know the look...because we do it all the time. It's just a shocker to see a Crossfire, even with the really hopped-up NiteFinder internals installed, do the same.

Hey Carrtoon...how's the repetitive stress test coming along? Any parts showing signs of wear, tear, or strain? With a spring that powerful, it's generally only a matter of time. (I'm referring also to the unique way you have to cock the blaster, as you explained earlier.)

I can't get over the fact that it looks like a modern-day Lock n' Load mutant.

So far, the Crossfinder is holding up. With the powerful springs, I make sure NEVER to dry fire them. I use the stock darts cut off and weight added that fit quite tightly in the cpvc. This allows for a slower hit with the plunger head. To date, I've only had one breakage. The plunger head on my first NF was blown off, but I fixed it with a wider, longer screw. I haven't had any problems, believe it or not, but I also haven't nerfed anyone yet! Usually I make a gun, fire it about 10 times, and it sits in a pile for weeks. Can't wait to get some real usage out of em!

I still don't like the feel of the Crossfire in my hand. I may start to sand off the uncomfortable handle and then paint it. We'll see...

Oooooh, I see it now! The cardboard is like close to the gun. Wow, my bad ya'll. For some reason to me it looked like the cardboard was a large sheet of cardboard in the corner of a room about 30ish feet away. It was a perspective problem. I thought I had gone crazy or something! Thanks for the help and sorry about the trouble.

Carrtoon,

Very clean and well-executed integration. The lines are clean, the photos are great quality and big enough to be seen, the explanations are descriptions are good. As always, excellent job, Carrtoon.

Last night when I first saw this I went downstairs and ripped apart one of our stock Nite Finders and took my CPVC modded Crossfire to try it for myself. I finished it just about 20 minutes ago, and it's working very well.

I have to say, it's one of the sloppiest mod's I've done in a long while. The lines aren't very clean, the guides for the plunger catch aren't very secure, or even very straight. The trigger plate extension is just a snapped off piece of the Crossfire's ammo holder.

It's nowhere near as nice or as cool as yours, but it works. Excellent idea, by the way. I never would have thought a Crossfire would fit a Nite Finder plunger without destroying the integrity of the gun's case. But is is very do-able. As I said before, excellent concept.

And you must be getting sick of hearing this by now, but it looks like a mutated Lock'N'Load.

I am a bit worried about putting a stronger spring, though. Like you said, you have to hold it differently to cock it, and a stronger spring would probably decrease the life by a lot.

I'll try it out and see if it's too much.

Again, and excellent idea, excellently executed, with excellent documentation.

P.S. I like the paintjob, but you may consider adding some trim or accents to it.

Sincereley,
Pat

that should change about mid-july. sound ok?

does some one have a comparison of a TTG (old version) and a NF plunger assemblies? because, as some one said, the TTG plunger assembly is thinner, and might fit in the gun with out cutting the sides, and that would be even cooler.

Very nice. You really seal those NF's off well. I can only pierce carbaord with one of my pump guns. At2ks and such. Must be those springs and all. Very nicely done.

to reinforce the insides, fill the parts of the shell that are prone to breaking with "great stuff" which is a canned sealing foam, that cures about 80% in an hr, if you did not already know. due to the perfect density of cured "great stuff" it helps to mute the gun, it absorbs most of the vibrations that endanger the life of the crossfinder, and if you clean the inside of the case fairly well, it will bond to the plastic. did I mention that it expands? (if you do not give it room to expand, it cures slower, and is much denser because it is forced to do so. [a good thing]

I was noticing the similarities between the two assemblies, and I'm considering picking up a nitefinder or two and doing extensive tests (I've already got an old-style TTG set). I'll have a hard time justifying it, other than for science, but we'll see. This is another reason for me to get one. (Or two, or three...)

Haha!!! Can you imagine the Crossfinder with foam pouring out of the holes! That would be interesting! I've tried this in the past and have had mixed results. First it helps if you don't overdo it, and second it really works well if you never want to open your guns again. On one of my lugered NFs, it worked well, but then I had to make the seal better on the plunger head and it was a pain to open and clean out. FBR also works. I cut a section of it in half and put it in one of my NF shells around the cylinder and it helped a bit. Thanks for the tip and when I'm completely done with it, I'll probably do this.

hm... you're right about not overdoing it, I generally only fill the crucial parts, that undergo a lot of stress. the area around the conection between plunger tube and barrel, a tiny bit in the back, to support some of the weak plastic pieces, etc, are all areas that I would "stuff." the handle I fill with FBR, or I put crayolas into it, to make ammo holders, and fill the remaining spaces with STUFF. generally, almost as soon as it cures, I take a box cutter and extend it about 1" out, and cut the foam in half, so that I can *CLEANLY* open the gun again, which is great. this allows you to open the gun, without sacrificing the major advantages to using "GREAT STUFF" ^_^

a crossfinder with foam pouring out the holes... wow... that'd be a good laugh... "hm, my crossfinder seems to have developed rabes..."
