I'm not sure if this has been asked yet but i was wondering what you used for a trigger.

Alright, finally got outside to do some range testing. This is with a BBB spring, so nothing too powerful; I'm hoping to replace the spring to get some better ranges. I'll probably try home depot or something next week.

AVERAGE: 76.5'
Of course, if I take out the outliers, which I'll put as the 90's, the 59, and the 61, then the average is:
RECALCULATED AVERAGE: 77'
Well, that didn't make much of a difference. Well, whatever. So the average as of now is around 77', I expect a spring replacement to do wonders, maybe adding 10'. So after re-gluing the bolt-handle to the rifle itself, and then adding the new spring, I should be able to get high 80's low 90's. Which would be really nice. Time to go hunting for a new spring.
I didn't angle the rifle any more than 5 degrees that I'm aware of on any shot. I guess I just had some good darts on the 90's, or something. I looks like in my zeal I broke the seal the epoxy and bolt handle had with the bolt itself. I do believe it may have had SOME effect on range, but very little.

Eh, I'm going to try searching home depot; 4 weeks is quite a while to wait for a spring, and I don't know enough about spring dimensions/materials to know what I'm doing. But thanks for the site.

How hard did you find it was to make this? Because if it's easy, i have a feeling that guns almost identical to this will soon take over the field of Nerf.
Beautiful work, though.

It wasn't that bad actually. I think I can say with confidence it's a hell of alot easier than building the FAR.
And the thing is too long to be of great use on any type of battlefield; the main purpose of the gun was to test some concepts I've had, mainly the bolt and the trigger system.
Assuming I can get my tube clip to work (Currently 2nd iteration is built, working on improving it), the next gun that I'm building should be far superior to the SOFAR in versitility.

I would have to disagree with the length/unusable thing, if you look at any bolt-action rifles from WWII, they were pretty long, but very usable.
It will simply need to get a little more range to be efficient.
I would suggest using the same spring as in the FAR, I think it'll be a little stronger than one from a BBB, and you should be able to get some better ranges from it. (I think)

Range, eh? Managed to fix that problem, fortunately. Ended up I had a stock X-bow spring; I basically switched a BBB spring and a cut part of the X-bow spring (to make up for the loss in length) for the original X-bow spring in the SOFAR, and did some retesting.

It must have gone farther than the others.
