Bolt, as I suggested before. It may make your life easier to sell kits of these guns. It'd require not as much effort and pain to make them and you'll also sell more. Just a suggestion.

Yeah, I`ve been thinking about doing kits as well. The problem with kits is there are different levels of them. What I was thinking of doing is to supply a kit with the raw materials cut to length but not dremeled any. This would be easy on my part to do. It would include everything you need to build the pistol: All PVC, springs, screws, aluminum, balsa, etc. But none of it would be dremeled. If people wanted a kit that had the dremel work already done, I might as well build the whole pistol. I was thinking maybe $15-20 for the basic parts kit.

$15-20 for kit of the pistol is a pretty good deal Ill think about it. Are you thinking about adding a spring clip that goes into the handle of the pistol? That would be pretty cool.

I don't think that a clip in the handle is too close...if it was possible and bolt did it, I would start a new religion that worshipped him. The FAR is the most ingenious design for a nerf gun, period. This thing is completely awesome, and not all that complicated to build. And, because of it, I rented and watched Equilibrium.

That sounds like a good price for the kit, though I already have enough of the parts lying around that it will be cheaper to just buy the rest of them. That said, I'm probably going to wind up with enough extra material to make a second one, if I can even get the first one to work.

My first big question with the construction is about cutting the 1" PVC needed for the 'Frame'. Here's a pic in case that wasn't clear:

Anyway, in the past when I've needed to cut PVC crosswise like that, I've done it with a Hacksaw, which not only makes for bad cuts but it usually takes me 2 or 3 tries to get one cut straight enough to use. How did you cut that piece? I looked at some PVC shears in Home Depot, but the ones I saw looked like they'd only cut lengthwise...I'm assuming that's how all PVC shears work?

Also, a list of the Dremel bits used would be extremely helpful (especially about cutting that aluminum), but I'm assuming that that will be in the write-up.

An in-grip clip would be pretty hard to do considering the size of darts. You could have to use extremely short darts. Probably under 1". But that wouldn`t be the end of the world. If it was to go in a spring gun then the plunger and plunger tube would have to be behind the grip which qould effectively turn it into a rifle. If you use CO2 it may be possible to retain the pistol look and function. That would still be pretty complicated to emualte in PVC.

For the kit I was thinking of cutting all the PVC pieces to length and marking the parts that need dremeling. The kits would be easy enough to assemble on demand so if anyone is interested PM. I think I`ll se the kit price at $20 to account for the spring price and other materials.

BllodMoon, I did that cut with a Dremel with a cut-off wheel. I first use a piece of angle iron to mark a straight line down the PVC with a marker. Then I just freehand the cut with the dremel. It's an acquired skill. At least it was for me. I sucked at it at first. My method is to hold the dremel in the right hand close to my body. I hold the PVC in my left hand and actually move the PVC rather than the Dremel. Think of it as ripping a piece of wood on a table saw.

All this talk of a kit is making me want to buy one more and more. And only $20? That just sweetens the deal. You should look into selling these kits over a dedicated website based on how much the guns go for on ebay. I'd definately buy one.

In order to achieve a clip loading pistol you would have to have the handle right under the barrel, like this:




Too bad I dont have photoshop of it would look much better...

Now to me that looks kind of stupid but whatever floats your boat.

I dont know about you, but I think the chopped clip loader looks pretty sick. Anyways, Bolt, yer another amazing home made. Keep up the good work. I too would definately be interested in buying a kit for this Pistol. I believe 20$ is a bargain!

Nice image there. I guess the big obstacle I still see in developing a pistol with the clip housed in the grip is the trigger mechanism....for the trigger mechanism to contact the plunger, I believe that there would have to be some wire or something that would pass right through the clip.

Does $20 include shipping? The shipping on just the spring for a lot of the sites I've seen seems to be in the $7 range, so your deal is looking better and better. I'm gonna check around some local places that sell guns/parts, see if they can help me out.

And, apologies in advance for being an ass, but Bolt, on your sig, I believe you mean 'Achtung'...I'm a German speaker and those things get on me after a while.

That looks a lot like a phaser from star trek or the gun in the new Planet of the Apes. I think I could probably live with that. In real pistols the trigger transfer bars run along the side of the frame and the magazine. There is no reason that you couldn`t do that with the homemade. That wouldn`t be too much of an issue.

I was thinking $20 per kit plus shipping and charging like $5 to ship. If someone wanted they could order multile kits and the $5 would stay the same. Any objections to that? Too steep?

I actually knew that about Achtung. Surprsing that no one or myself caught it before now. My sisters husband is German so I get a fair amoutn of German exposure, but that doesn`t mean I can speak it....at all. Thanks for the catch though. I fixed it.

Damn, how much would you say of the work requires dremeling? Like is it pretty much impossible to make one with a kit without a dremel?

It would be near impossible to build one without using a dremel. I plan to mark sll the cuts on the pieces of PVC in the kit but not actually do any of the dremel work. As I said before, if I were going to do the dremel work, it would make more sense to just build the entire pistol.
