F@H just isn't working anymore.

I was on vacation and completed multiple WUs, all of which were rejected.

I think my computer is slowing down, too.

Anyone else notice this besides the all-mighty Pineapple (you have a sweet golf cart if you're reading this, by the way) and myself?

Yeah last night, a 250k one finished, but my mom cut my internet off and it didn't let it upload, and when it came back on it just said closed connections, so all that work for nothing :D .

Edit: (exerpt from log) [10:57:50] Completed 250000 out of 250000 steps (100)

is that a firewall problem or just cuz the internet was off? I mean ovbiously it won't work without the internet, but will the firewall prevent it from uploading later?

Sorry for all my grammar errors, it's too early

No sweat RAMBO, your work unit is in the queue. It'll transmit as soon as you get the internet connection up.

I had one of mine go nineteen tries before I found out and hooked up, and as soon as the connection was established, away it went to F@H. That is, when I didn't have I/O errors or CLIENT_DIED messages. That sucked.

What program can be used to view SPOT files? and I don't think it's in my queue anymore. Also, why is it that everytime I open the console, I have to download a new Core?

Reedit: That 250k WU I finished, it didn't save or some shit, so now I have to do the damn thing all over again.

Edit Again: Does the GUI version take longer than that of the console, because I have 95-99% of CPU usage going towards it and it still says like October 27th.

The grapics version is a waste of time. It shows you pretty coloured spheres in intracate arrangments, instead of doing the folding like a good little program. It'll take more time, and it'll take up more CPU, more often.

Get the console, because as Cx said, it's more efficent.

Plus the Gui crashed my graphics driver, so I had to switch over to console.

go to services (control panel -> administrative tools -> services) and stop the one that starts with FAH. Then open a command prompt in your FAH directory and type:

FAH502-console -configonly

It will go through and ask you all the questions again, with your old answers as defaults. When you're done it will exit. Restart the computer to fire the service up again.

Damn, I feel so stupid. I don't think I set F@H to be a service to start out with, and I want to re-configure it. I've spent about a half an hour trying to follow your directions, Cx, but it's just not clicking. Maybe these directories are different because I have an older OS? I'm currently running on Windoze ME, so would that make things different than XP? I just hope I won't have to re-install the console for the 3rd time. Sorry to be asking such dumb questions, but it's in full interest in my contribution to the NH team.

Argh, I've been working on this WU for about 4 weeks now. 5000000 (5 million) friggin steps! I have 78/400 frames completed. As far as folding goes, I'm in a pretty pissy mood.

Well, any help to the above problem would be received with great thanks.

4 weeks to get 78/400 on a TINKER is an awfully long time. It does sound as if you haven't set it up as a service and it isn't running most of the time. Unfortunately I haven't used Windoze ME so I haven't a clue how you can stop the service - if running - perhaps someone else can help out with that?

I think your best bet is just to reconfigure it whether it's running or not. Open a command prompt in the directory it's running in and type fah502-console -configonly to launch it in config mode. It should default to your name and team number and then either ask you if you want to set up a service (answer yes) or remove a service (answer no) before going through the rest of the configuration.

After you've done that, just restart your computer and check the (fahlog.txt) log file when you first start up, then again in a couple hours, and you'll know if it's running.

Sorry, without a better knowledge of ME I can't help more than that.

RAMBO, October 27th is not your ETA, it's the deadline after which they reassign that WU to someone else.

Is is possible to have two different computers folding for my one account?

TS

*EDIT* By the by, I just downloaded it on my new comp. It seems to be going, but it's been at 0 out of 2500000 for a while. And I just brought up task manager, who says that I'm using 95-99% of my CPU for the FahCore_78.exe. Any help?

TS, you can have as many CPUs as you want folding for your account. Just enter the same name and team number for each one you setup.

None needed, you're doing just fine right now. GROMACS, eh? Rock n' roll.

I think I got my blues worked out on my comps...I lost five work units to 'unusual circumstances'...I gave cx a copy of my logs and he thinks I'll be fine. I'm not overclocking, and my comps were running 24/7 in a pretty much climate controlled environment (except for my office, no a/c, one fan, and it can go into the 90s in the shade). I just need to reboot every now and then.

I also poured a can of Diet Mountain Dew on my keyboard and CPU...the theory here is that the extra caffeine boost will help with off-line productivity. It seems to be working a lot better, and running cooler, too.*

-Piney-

*Just kidding. I wonder how many people would actually try that. This is a built-in disclaimer for Piney, cx and admins, and NerfHaven if you're dumb enough to try that. But I don't think anyone on the NH folding team is dumb. We rock.

Okay, now that Nerfhaven is in the top 800 teams, extremeoverclocking.com has given us sig images. Below is the url and how to modify it.

Here is the basic URL:
http://folding.extre...000CC&c5=FFFFFF

This will generate a custom Nerfhaven folding team signature. Where is says "baelnorn" simply substitute your folding at home username.
If you only want the personal stats for your username, and not the second part where it has the Nerfhaven team stats, then simply delete the "&t=45293" out of the above url.

I hope this will encourage more people to join the folding team, and at least provide some eye candy for contributing users.

Fold on
Baelnorn

*Edit*
Apparently we can't have sig images in the nerfhaven sig box, perhaps cxwq knows how to do this.

Okay, it's been about a month passed, and 200 more places up the list.

We're in the top 600 now, and I noticed that the activity has tapered off somewhat. For myself, my home computer just fried it's power supply, so that one is out until I can get a replacement power supply (and hopefully it's limited to the PS and not the motherboard). But with my laptop and office comp going, they've somewhat fell into a groove where it's doing about 80 pts./ day average. Not shabby considering my (by comparison) old equipment.

But I noticed a lot of you 'pulling out'. Point averages are dropping individually, and thereby places dropping too (I was wondering why I was moving up again).

What's the story? Too much CPU cycles being used? Interferes with games? Napster won't work with F@H? Broke a computer like me? (though no fault of the F@H program) Just tired of helping?

I'm just curious. We're still doing pretty darn good, considering the circumstances.

Don't fall away!

COMMITMENT; the ability to stay with a worthy decision, long after the excitement of making that decision has passed.

-Piney-

EDIT; there are some newer guys who are movin' their way up the list....good on ya, mate! Team_Slaya, Iladar, SNAPED. Others too, sorry if I forgot.

I`m still plugging away. Currently have 9 CPUs running. I`ve been steadily cranking out about 380 points a day.

I have notieced the same thing though. Interest has just seemed to have died off completely.

As stated in posts before, my laptop ain't cranking like it used to be. I used to pump out about 1800 points a week on it alone. Now that number is between 700-1100. In addition, the desktop at home (500 miles away) had Folding @Home uninstalled by my brother (again) because it slowed the thing down. That leaves me out of computers. I let my laptop basically run 24/7.

I'm still contributing with my personal machines. I just changed jobs this week so my office PC has gone away. My new desktop at work is a PIII 800MHz with 256MB of PC100 (!) so I won't be putting up those huge numbers anymore until I can find some new horsepower.

If someone wants to take over as official cheerleader and give us regular stats breakdowns that would be swell. I don't have time at the moment. First person to crop and host our stats charts from all three stats pages gets the job!

My folding has been suffering thanks to a power surge that fried the mobo on my 2500+. It also caused a kernel panic on my other 2 so I lost the units it was working on and a couple more days of productivity reconfiguring the OS. My 3000 a week average should be back pretty soon though, and maybe more, I picked up a 2800+ but don't have a mobo or power supply for it.

@ Boltsniper, how long have you had those 9 running? I haven't really noticed a huge spike in your folding average. I had thought about buying some cheap XP processors and clustering them, not just for folding, I do some processor intensive work like crawling. Is this similar to what those 9 are doing, or are they just 9 boxes?
