From what I've seen, this gun might be better unmodded.

Hrm, no. I don't know what you've seen, but it's pathetic unmodded.

I noticed that once the air restrictors were taken out, there was a big gap between the source of the air and the dart. Is that what you're talkin about when you say to put foam in there and make sure there's a hole so the air can get out of?

Yes.

Evil, this gun is better modded. I might not have been clear enough. There were air restrictors on the place where the pegs are.

Dont just take the air restrictors out. Drill them clear and then put them back in so that gap isnt there.

They are talking about putting craft sheet where the cylinder meets the plunger, like on a powerclip. It helps form a seal while still allowing the barrels to rotate.

I am new to the forum and this pretty mucht the only post i've read so please don't get pissed if someone already reported this.

My friend and I each got a maverick in Jan. and were so impressed with this newe nerf gun, that we made all of our friends buy them and we use them as the only weapon for in-dorm fire-fights. Of coarse we figured modding would make them better, so we found thsi site and a few others and heres what we have to report:

Our first mod, was making the rotary chamber able to swing fully out of the gun for better reloadability and all around coolness ( more like a real revolver). There are "tabs" of plastic that need to be dremeled off to do this, one on the front gray piece, and 2 on teh back, you can easily figure it out if you look at it. Thsi mod was successfull 100%

The rest of the mods pertain to muzzle velocity:

First thought was to put more tension on the spring, so a spacer was introduced behind the spring ( I used Foam-Core presentation board). Thid made very little improvement. 5% sucess.

Next step was to improve airflow, one quick thing to do is lube the o-ring in the airchamber for a better seal. The main mod was to disassemble the rotary chamber and drill out the caps that the dart rests, against. We first drilled the 3 air holes per cap that were quite small and spread them as far as possible, while still leaving the main dart holding pin. This mod increased distance by 10 ft. giving a total of around 40 ft with a very slight arc. 50% Sucess.

One small mod I tried was to take out the 6 springs 3-pin plastic pieces in teh back of the chamber, this makes no difference in range but removing them maked for much louder (and probably harsher) dry fires.

Lastly I tried to take care of the seal between the rotary chamber and the air-compressor. I used the mouth of a balloon as an o-ring and glued it in place with a strong model glue. The thickness of the ring didn't allow for mechanical rotation of the chamber but did provide a very tight seal. I manually lined up the barrel and fired and there was NO difference at all in distance. 0% Sucess.

Nothign was tried with stephans as this is my first nerf gun purchase since the Misslestorm and I have not figured out exactly where to find the foam tubes that you all use.

Hope this helps someone.

Hey, I've been on NerfHq for a little while and decided to join here. Tell me if I'm completely off the wall here but, it was under my impression that the whole front is not needed. It's simply there for looks. That is what I thought...tell me if I'm wrong.
Determining that this is unnecessary, why doesn't someone just saw off the front end, so the revolver section is open, and extend the barrels?

That'd be cool, but its neccesary. The front supports the revolver, and its swivel.

Well, it can be done. You would have off the front, take the swivel entirely out, and glue it onto the rotating mechism. The swivel wont be needed if its an open barrel assembly. It would lose the revolver feel, but be easier to load, and look sweet...

Tell me who said that and I'll personally tell them they're a dumbass. Unless it's angled, or has a NF plunger. Other than those two, whoever said that is a dumbass. A complete, and utter, dumbass.

You said 75' in the thread you posted in no less than 5 minutes ago.

I did the modd and i got 70'!!!

I get 75' on my recently modded maveric! its no lemon at all! whered you get that idea! Besides these have good rof.

Plus, unless you're using some INCREDIBLE form of darts, or have replaced the plunger shaft, I do believe that distance is near impossible, given the size of the Maverick's plunger tube, AND the poor seal.

I never said you didn't, just show me a picture then, because nobody is going to believe that you're getting that kind of range with the stock plunger.

well who said i didn't do the nf plunger?!?

Dude, many NF's don't even get that range! And they have a good seal! My NF may get around 70 on a good day, and thats one out of 20 shots. Seriosuly. I doubt a Mav, with the seal and weak tube, can get more than 60'. If it was angled, I understand, but with the way you are putting it, I think you are exageratting.

Lieing on the internet is stupid, its not like they are ever going to your house to see if your gun fires that far...

or maybe they will....we have some weird people here.

I say you didn't. Stuffing the NF guts into the Mav is a bitch, and you haven't been modding long enough to pull it off.

chores, how did you measure those ranges?

mmmmhhhhhmmmm.SURE you did. SURE IT DOES. Lets just leave it at this. Chores, you have been nerfing 8 days, give or take a few. You didn't mod your Maverick. Dont become another YWNM, from NHQ.Even If you did mod it, they get 40-50 feet. In my personal opinion, the mav's a piece of junk. Got buy yourself a mad hornet, but DONT say you got 100 feet with it. Case closed. There are TOO MANY threads alive just for the purpose of trying to prove nOOb's wrong. Everyone on this forum knows Chores didnt do anything He said he did. Chores, take my advice, DO NOT lie or exagerate on the NH or NHQ forums WE CAN TELL.

Cxwq, that's one of the funniest things I've ever seen posted here. 70' flat? Maybe if you have metal reinforcement and a butane propulsion system replacement I don't see that happening. Just to give an idea of how far that is, that gets similiar distances to cxwq's modded EAB and I seriously doubt with a plunger as big as an EAB and a unique spring mod that cxwq thought up that a mav, no matter how heavily modded, could challenge that. I'm not so sure a NF can get a legit 70' consistently.

One thing I think we can all agree on is putting Duct Tape (one of the best fix-alls) around the grip of the gun. This is minor, but at least it increases the level of "hold" we have on the gun.

Also, I'm thinking of adding some copper tubing at the end nozzle to make it more like a rifle, but it would make it look more like an elongated rifle.

Yeah, I use hockey grip tape for most of my guns handles.

Also, I'm thinking of adding some copper tubing at the end nozzle to make it more like a rifle, but it would make it look more like an elongated rifle.

If you mean to have a barrel extention, you would have to put the tubing right on top of the place where the darts come out. Even then, the barrels don't always line up exactly, and you would lose air from the barrel to the copper tubing (and the gun is horribly inefficient as it is). Include the length of the copper tubing, I would be suprised if the dart even got out of the gun.
