I'm a pretty amateur modder who was wanting to experiment with a simple improvement to Nerf barrel extensions. My idea is to nest a brass barrel (I'm guessing a 17/32") into a Retaliator barrel extender. After measuring the unit I determined the primary dimensions to be an ID of ~21/32" a length of 8.75". That's a lot of dead space between the stock barrel and the brass barrel I assume I'll be using, and I'm not interested in trying to center that thing in a vat of epoxy. With that in mind, how should I attempt this mod?

You could wrap the brass in a lot of tape, or try to find a size of plastic pipe or pipe fitting that fits between them to make a bushing.  I would take the barrel extension and the size brass you want to use to the hardware store and just wander the plumbing section test fitting pipes and fittings until you find something you like.

There are multiple ideas that come to mind:

1. If you have access to 3-d printing, design and print a ring-esque spacer to fit on each end so the ends of the brass are centered, then epoxy putty (or friction fit if you design it to be so). This would be moderately easy, downside is access to such a part. You could always commission another nerfer to do so on r/nerf or https://www.reddit.com/r/nerfexchange

2. Measure and mark dashes at each cardinal direction. Do the same on the end of the tubing. Use hot glue to try to hold the tubing in place temporarily and line it up, then epoxy putty. Remove the hot glue.

3. Search for tubing at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. with the exact inner/outer diameter as you desire, and cut spacers similar to #1

4.Wrap the barrel as Langley suggested.

These solutions vary in complexity, I would suggest #1 if possible, as it will be the cleanest.

Langley's Solution is the best if you don't feel like searching for a perfect fit tube or have access to such a method. #2 requires a bit of craftsmanship for a straight install, would not recommend if you are shaky on your crafting skills.

Keep in mind that if you do not have an air-tight connection from the main barrel to the tubing you are installing in the faux barrel, this will actually cause worsened ranges rather than improved.

Since you mentioned it, I decided to take apart my Retaliator (which was a pain BTW) and realized that there was an opening in the breech where the dart tooth sits in the primed position. I suppose this will be a problem. Do you think that taking out the AR and adding an upgrade kit would get the air pressure high enough to cause the air to "clog" the gaps in the breech until the dart can leave the barrel?

Not really, no.  Those gaps are less resistance than the barrel and dart present to the air flow.  Also, it is generally considered a bad idea to remove the air restrictor in a Retaliator/Elite series plunger, unless you pad the plunger head.  Peg removal is always nice, though.

On a similar note, can I (should I?) replace the barrel on my Rapidstrike with a brass barrel? I just ordered a bunch of Koosh Gen 3 darts and I heard the spiraling in the plastic tube on the RS can sometimes spin them out of control. My Rs also has 3x 180s and a BSUK wire and switch upgrade kit. Any thoughts?
