Katachi, can I mabey see a flat, profile view of your NF with the barrel on? I cant really tell if its funky from that angled one. Definatley sand those ridges down to make it smooth with the rest of the gun.

Langley's got a point- but Katachi is just more used to modding asthetically pleasing guns for college kids that are amazed with 50ft ranges that modding really isn't that big of a deal for him. Yes, I live near him, and yes, I also mod guns for probably the same college kids he does. So yes, I know what the fuck I'm talking about. Being more used to modding asthetically pleasing guns, he's just not used to seeing guns that don't look like they came out of a factory that way. He's only been here a while, he'll get used to it. Just give him a break, he'll soon understand why we are so obsessed with range over asthetics. Eventually.

Oh, and with all this work, I didn't lose a SINGLE screw! How the hell can THIRST lose all his screws??? In the pieces he cut off, there's SIX SCREWS he could have used as replacements! He lost those too?? Maybe he ate them.

TIP: When taking a part guns, get a dixie cup or mug, or hat or SOMETHING to keep screws in. I like to have a small cup for screws and a large one for other parts. That way, nothing gets lost. It's all in a cup. Like pizza.

Seriously dude, I sense way too much ego here. I'm talking about previous posts. Some people just really don't have the skills or tools availible to them to spend 3 hours painting and remodling a plastic toy gun. It really comes down to how much you care about a plastic toy, and whether or not you like it's functionality better. I paint my guns black and silver, stenciling in designs... I don't say I'm the master originator, I say I think I do a good job with my paintjobs.

With your "6-7 creative people" comment, you seem to be trying to belittle about 650+ other members? Seems a little bit of a big responsibility you've taken on, because I'd like you to prove your theory. You've got to watch your words, and the way people percieve them, because honestly, I think you're trying to say you're the best the ever was. People have done clay on guns before, you're not the frist to cover up holes... and actually, you're not the first to claim that you are the person who has the skills.

I didn't like your analogy with the college by the way. It didn't quite make sense. I understand the instructions part, but I don't see how a case held together with tape is bad. If you're running twin AMD 2600+ overclocked at 3GHz, and hiding four 1024 RAM sticks in your piece of shit case... you'll impress them no matter how crappy the case looks. Same goes for Nerf. A ducttape monster could shoot 120', accurate up to 100', that'd impress me. I'd tell the guy to clean up the tape a little bit... "but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.".

That's pretty much it for me. Oh, and the cup idea. Used so many times it's almost an unwritten law. You see... everyone finds a safe place to put screws, it's common sense, and it's logical. No need for the tip of the day to be: "Okay kids, remember, you want to find a safe place to put your screws, because if you lose them, you can't use them! You wouldn't want that now would you kids? Didn't think so!" Can you see how that could piss some one off? It's so logical that it boggles the mind as to how someone could not think to put screws somewhere.

As to THIRST's screws... I know what he with them, don't I, THIRST? I'll tell you one thing... he doesn't eat them. He eats CPVC shards.

Katachi, I have a lot of respect for you. Nice NF, looks good! And I like how you went through and explained your process of making it.

Anyway, I would much rather have a good looking gun that a shitty looking gun with all sorts of crap on it.

Heres my simile;
At a car show, does the prize winning car have to be able to run a 12 second quarter mile? No, its great paintjob and aesthetics make it stand out from the rest. I would much rather have a 17 second pretty new mustang than a 13 second crappy and rusted honda crx. And in real life, I do have that slow 17 second mustang. But I like it because it looks very nice, and I don't care if it isn't the fastest, most functional car on the road.

Same with nerf... But people have different opinions, if you wanna run around with a functional piece of shit in your hand, by all means go ahead. I have functional peices of shit that I have made, *cough e-taped single barreled at2k cough*, I just would much rather use my clean looking SM1500 which doesn't get as much range, but oh well.

Along with my Night finder and Lock and Load. My nightfinder outranges my lock and load, but I rather use my lnl simply because it looks better. In our wars, that extra 10-20 feet doesn't matter much because it is hard to hit someone 70 feet away. Most of the shooting is around 10-50 feet.

Whatever, I'm rambling, some people like fuctionality, some people like aesthetics, lets just get along.

Eh, I use my duct tape roll that sits on my table- I have two so one of them is stuck to the table and serves as my screw-holder.

Wrath, nice points, but Katachi is just trying to say that Bondo would replace Duct Tape, and it would be much nicer. It would only take a few extra minutes according to his description.

And for the college, many of the students just nerf with weapons that go 50ft., which is pretty much every one once modded, so having the coolest looking one is of ut-most importance.

Xedice, you deserve a cookie. That was a great explanation. Although I have one hot glue monster, my 4-barreled sm5k, I would not use it in a war because it just looks so incredibly bad. I guess I'd have the advantage my opponents would be laughing so hard, but you get the idea. It's just a matter of personal preference and situation, so well, yeah.

Wrath, I thought THIRST ate pvc dust... or particles, not cpvc. I remember it in his old sig or website or something.

It should not be the burden of the forum regulars to be patient with new users who come in and criticize everyone on the forum. It would be one thing if he was simply presenting his designs, but it's quite another to take the opportunity to bash everyone else while he's at it. This forum was created specifically to cater to nerf war vets and we have a long history of deleting new users who don't really belong in this community.

Who goes through the trouble of making an account on a nerf forum to post how they hate nerf?

Indeed. And who goes through the trouble of making an account on a forum to post about how lame the users are?

I dunno about you, but id rather use tape than bondo. Id actually like to be able to take my guns apart and maintnence them. And rubber bands on the outside because theirs no room to make them inside on most gun katachi, like you would know though...

Actually, even in the nitefinder, there's room for internal banding. So he's got you there Ninjz. Actually, with a little creative dremeling, I'm not sure if there's many middle-sized guns that you can't hide the rubber bands on.

Cx, I see your point- so my apologies. Maybe just a warning?

How often is it used in a war though? Wars aren't every day, nor every week. We have wars over here only a few times a year. Don't know about your wars, but we don't have them all that often, usually just in the spring/summer. But I look at my guns a lot, they are in plain view for me to see just about every day. However, I don't fire my guns everyday, nor do I measure the range of them every day. See my point?

I have to agree with Xedice. I have really never been to a war, and the only real way I have to interest people in nerf guns is through asthetics. My first crossbow is basically designed for pure looks, it only fires about 70ft. from both barrels. However, I haven't had anyone complain about how it looks. Yet. My true functional guns aren't the neatest, but they work well, and are very sturdy.

Whoever asked about me eating cpvc, it was a bit of a joke, it was my old nhq custum title and sig. I got it taken away for being a so-called

It's not just a coincidence, every time we have a fight there's always a common instigator. THIRST, you're on that list with others.

instigator. Fun stuff.

A pretty gun is cool.
A high-performance gun is cool.
Very few people take the time to combine both.
I respect both camps, I think you guys need to be a little more open-minded. Better yet, have your pretty guns on display and hide your arsenal of pvc monsters. That way people will underestimate you until you sneak up on them and put a round through their sunglasses.

I doubt this thread will change any opinions. We might as well argue Batman vs. Superman. Batman has the style, Superman has the power, both are popular. Enough said.

This is the best debate I've seen here for a while.

No way, dude, Batman would obliterate Superman!!

A few months from now, new laptops will be out that weigh less than a two pounds, can fit inside a large envelope, and have great contemporary looks. The army has computers made from the same company. These laptops are bulky and quite heavy. However, they work much faster, (albeit with less memory, because less is needed), and can stand much harsher conditions. The non-army laptop will be disfunctional if submerged underwater. The army laptops can be dropped from 5 feet without sustaining damages. It can be run over by car wheels. It can even stop a bullet (I don't think the laptop would still work, though).

We're going out to war. A nerf war. I'd prefer a gun that has "function over form."

I won't stop here though. After I finish modding my gun, I try (and still am) to make them look cosmetically intimidating, or just cool. When friends come over, I don't need ridicule on top of the fact that I actually am nerdy enough to spend time modding nerf guns. At a nerf battle, I'd appreciate it if people admired the way my gun looked, as well as how it performed. But this has been said several times.

Although I feel cosmetics do have some value, I still feel that the function of the gun is more important.

We're going out to war. A nerf war. I'd prefer a gun that has "function over form."

It's true that the military's heavy artillery is ugly as sin, and works effectively, but this is the whole point I'm trying to make. Why are you arguing over which is better? There is no right answer. I'm trying to show you people how you can have BOTH.

Have you seen how much of an aftershock "Form vs Function" has had across multiple topics on multiple forums? There is obviously is some demand for better looking guns. The forums arent' just "hey! Let's talk about performance and parts!"

You're all offering some valid points and I'm glad this whole whole process hasn't completely degraded into one big counter-productive pissing contest.

CXWQ, if you're going to go through that much trouble to dig up old posts and dirt on me, you should have seen that I don't bash people, and I don't bash nerf. All my comments have started out as suggestive improvements or criticism, and some people instantly see it as a direct attack on them and a chance to flame someone and look l33t in front of their friends.

Furthermore, am I really threating your way of life that much? Why am I here? I'm here to show people that there's better ways cosmetically to go about case modding a gun, and share advanced electronic designs once I complete them. Apparently, I come from a completely different world of nerf gamers. Mine is full of prop makers, kit builders, engineers, programmers and mechanics, all with a desire to find a safe legal gun game they can play in the city or on university campus. There is nerf after high school!

It's not like I'm some 13 year old kid who comes in and posts "U SUCK! UR GUN IS DUMB!" every chance I get. If I dont' like it, I'll tell you I don't like it, but the DIFFERENCE is that not only will I tell you what I would change if it were me, but I give the steps to make it look like it was done professionally and offer help to anyone who wants it. How many of you have IMed me on AIM for comments or questions already? I get questions DAILY from people. I am happy to contribute and people appreciate it.

The other point you all seem to be missing is one I've stated several times now, and again with the computer analogy. When you play with people who have also done all they can internally to a gun, and the ranges are getting comparitavely close, people start working on the aesthetics. When you've done all you can internally, and the 20 people you game with have done the same thing, people natrually are going to turn to case mods. When everyone goes to a war with a Tech Target, all modded internally as much as possible, people are going to want theirs to stand out. At least they do here. Hey, maybe middle and high school aren't as competitive as college and the thereafter. Maybe that's what I'm missing here. Consider this "Nerf Cram School" then :P

And THIRST, I've said a million times, I'm sure any gun you make will have much better range than any internal mods I can do. I don't hate anyone here, and I take ALL criticism lightly. I'm twice as old as some of you so it's not going to bother me a bit if you decide to call me names. The list of things you lose points for in the NHQ contest was meant to be funny, not serious. You said yourelf it's all in fun. I still don't really care who wins the contest, I just painted some guns up to try to inspire people to paint their guns with a bit more than than a solid color. Heck, I even told you how I did it and what tools I used! I still can't believe you spent that much time on a "Katachi" gun. :P Hella funny. The other forum I post in is 419Eater.com . It's for another hobby of mine, e-mailing Nigerian scam artists and wasting their time thinking they can scam $30,000 or more off of you. One of the fun things to do is to waste their time and money by requesting pics of them holding silly signs and e-mailing them to you. These are reffered to in the 419 community as "trophies" and are prouldly displayed as how far the scammer will go to pacify you. It's good practice writing/acting, and putting my photoshop skills to use.

THIRST, thank you for the trophies. With my name on it even! I have one of them as my desktop wallpaper and I'll be printing them out soon. :P

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, I'd start another post for being back "on topic" but apparently, it's bad forum ettiquitte to make muliple posts in a row in your own topic. Hell if I know. I ususally stay out of these things...

It's been about 12 hours since the last coat of primer, so I'll be slapping some paint on in a bit. Plenty of pics then.

I never said I used Bondo to seal up the shells. Go back and take a look at the pics! There's a seam! Not a very good one, mind you, but the concept is there. Yes, I can take the gun apart again.

A 2 barrel "attachment" is coming. I'm not intrested in attaching or modding the gun to take it. I'm sure it works for you, but the whole reason I wanted to do it was to show one of the fine uses for Bondo Jelly :P. You're gonna love it.

Back later with update pics!

Hey dude, no hard feelings. Im sorry bout that whole she-bang!. Anyways...You did insprire me actually, expect a triple barrel camo painted NF with pleasing aesthetics coming tomorrow. Hehe, gotta give me props on the MK.1 and MK.2 though...Damn guns are fun as hell to screw around with.

The list of things you lose points for in the NHQ contest was meant to be funny, not serious

But either way, you meant it...

Anyways...Im confused, 2 barrel attachment? Do you mean a turret, like Mantis's infamous Banana clip!

I pretty much blew it out of proportion too, though I aint apologizing on nhq.

Please think better of me Kat...

THIRST

The Katachi gun took me a whole 2 seconds to make, because the cases/internals were already tkaen out and crapped up. All I did was wrap it in some e-tape, zipties, and do a quick paintjob. I think drawing Katachi on the duct tape took me longer than making the actual guns. Hehe.

Jezus Khrist, that's a mouthfull.

Just show us the final result when you are done.

I'm used to differences like this. You guys have to understand it. Hell, try getting a Woodsballer and a Speedsballer to agree on playing style in Paintball. Try getting guys from MechWarrior 3 to play MW4:Mercs. It ain't gonna happen. While it may seem the same, there are differences. Usually big ones. You just have to find some kind of median. Some people need to take the dicks out of their asses and the jizz out of their eyes to see that.

And take a shower while you're at it.

There will be plenty of suprises for you when you get back. The painjobcontest ends tonight!

Here's some new pics. The paint's about 10 years old, and I hit the bottom of the can so it comes out in big drops now, instead of an even spray.
