Edit: There appears to be a problem with this link, even before it started getting mass-clicking... worked for me earlier, hopefully it'll work again soon.

I found this article scouring the 'net today actually for more info on the comlink because I'm thinking about buying the trio from ItalianStallion. Hasbro's site was down that usually has those cool directions/old manuals for many guns, etc. I found this, and I was wondering about others' dealings with the police. On my campus, the police are usually cool with us as long as we stay indoors at night, with 30-40 players all drawing guns, I can understand that. Ergo, we never brandish outdoors and always have police contact for designated time and academic building we're going to play in, etc. It wasn't always like that. They only recently worried we were going to go outside. Anyway, the administration gave us the go ahead to keep playing because it's 30-40 less people, almost 1% of campus that isn't binge-drinking every Saturday night for six hours. I still haven't finished this article, but I thought it would be cool to discuss it and our own run-ins with Johnny law. Do you cozen him? Run? Does he confiscate your firearms? Is he cool with you? Are you cool with him? I want to get some perspectives and discuss this interesting article above. On a personal note, before we cleared ourselves with campus police and the administration, they did threaten to confiscate our "facsimile firearms" because they are contraband and not supposed to be possessed on campus. I.e. if an officer saw someone brandishing such a thing in the dark it endangers both parties, etc. I'll post more in response to you folks and as I complete the article.

Edit: This appears to be the site of the people who run this thing.

I believe someone brought up a topic about that article a few months ago.

Anyway, I don't really have problems with cops since I nerf on private land. I might try to go to a school or park one day, but until then I think I sit pretty nicely with the law. By the way, what college do you go to? If it's w&m as I think I've gathered from your posts, than I might be able to coax my older brother to going to one of your wars, as he'll be attending the school next year.

I was part of a nerfing student org during my undergrad years, and pretty much we did a lot of the same things you do, we had a contact with the PD, and pretty much let them know that we'd be in the same place every week. A few times there we outsiders who called the cops or campus security showed up to find out what was going on, and we delt with it by explaining our student org status, and show them our guns and boffers to reassure them that there are indeed safe "toy" guns. Being polite and complying with the requests of the law is the best way to deal with them and to get back to shooting foam at each other.

This is why I'm such an advocate for Nerf and somewhat less enthusiastic about Airsoft.

When the PD sees us playing in a park with guns, they are MUCH less likely to approach us if we were shooting each other with motley colored, toy-like guns, (despite the PVC or brass or copper sticking out the end of them), then if we had AR-15's, Beretta 92s, and Glock 17s, even if they shot "plastic pellets".

More so, Nerf is played (at least the way we play) like tag, except with the advantage of a dart-firing tool. "Safe paintball", if you will. No scenario games, frag grenades, cammies, or SAS outfits. We just Nerf!

A lot of the police response/ reaction would be based on the attitudes and intentions of those who are playing at the time. Cheating, foul language, encroaching on others who may be nearby, and other such behavior is what would give Nerfing a black mark in the public's eye, and make it that much harder to play in "public" places.

Just my two shekels.
