I don't think the gun is going to be able to have a clip and range together, one or the other.

Search for "autobow". Magfed and gets 50'!

Nice picture/drawing! I can see a few major problems though. In order for the trigger to hold the pencil in place you would have to put a stop behind it. That would make it impossible to pull the trigger. :( Also, when you cock the gun, a dart ends up behind AND in front of the pencil. I don't think the gun is going to be able to have a clip and range together, one or the other.

Sketchup FTW.

I'd put a rubberband under the trigger to keep it in place, and I could've sworn I'd tried that trigger design before and it was ok. It *seems* like it should work, since the pivot point is almost in-line with what it's holding back (so you've got more shear to worry about then pivoting) and the pull is 90* to that. Anyway, since it's supposed to be cardboard, it'd be easy to mock up. [Edit] Mocked it up, that design will at least work for launching rubber bands. Might need more rubber bands for support, and it might need paper-clip reinforcement if made from cardboard.[/edit]

As for the dart issues, I'm aware that those need to be solved, but I thought I saw DB do it and my plan was to just include a 'tail' on the pencil/dart pusher that occupies the barrel when it's in the 'fired' position. You could probably use that tail to charge the blaster too. A better solution, that did not put anything on the pencil/dart pusher, would be ideal since it'd keep the mass down; but that can be figured out later.

Something I realized about prototyping here: many, many, many people already make and use Knex blasters. It'd be a pinch to use Knex for building Nerf-dart launchers.

I think this thread could use a significant dose of Lego shooters as well.

I think this thread could use a significant dose of results as opposed to sketches.

Build something, share it, talk about it. But once the talking starts to supersede the building and sharing, the noise becomes asphyxiating.
