Ha, I'm sorry about that. He couldn't control himself.

Nazgul, keep it to MSN or something, maybe PMs.

Anyways, to stop the hijacking...

Nerf Doesn't hurt that much guys. Blah, continue on, the Canadians have left your Americans and others to yourselves...

I would request the CFM discontinue posting in the thread. Thank you.

Topics like these lead to cardboard armor. Please desist before someone goes out and buys a kevlar vest. :P

Nerf really doesn't hurt that much. Bruise, blood blister, whatever, any air gun can do these. If you want real pain, go out to an East Vancouver bar and start insulting mothers/significant others.

I always thought the idea of using foam darts was to reduce the pain of impact... That, aside from general cheepness of blaster quality, is all that really separates Nerf from other airgun-toting games. Perhaps some of us might want to invest in figuring out how to reduce the force of impact of our darts, so as to rid Nerf of eye safety, rather than talk about how we hit someone with a piece of lead shot and were suprised when it bruised the skin.

..And don't mind "The Canadians," they all hail from Eastern Canada, so they can't be expected to accurately represent the rest of us. :P

True, Mike. Watch what you say, though. I was born in Montreal and lived there for 5 years.

Oh you hurt my feelings!

Not really. The story is true, but I'm not a huge... fan... of the French or thier hope-to-be-seperatist Quebec.

Oh, and making darts that don't hurt... Zero darts. Gotta love that 2mm Foam Craft Sheeting.

Moi duex cents.

I thought Zero Darts had a fishing weight (a.k.a. lead tip) in them. Am I mistaken? Oh yeah, felt provides less barrel friction but is much thicker.

Hey schmucks, I'm french canadian, so fuggof.

Oh, I'm just making a political joke regarding the value of the Western Canadian vote. Lighten up, I have no problem with French Canadians... Unless they arrest me for speaking my native language in public. :P

The key to decreasing the impact force is decreasing and rebalancing the weight of the dart... Which is also a key to reducing range, sadly, but it's challenging to win them all.

I'd have an updated writeup of the modified Zero dart I've been using (single bb weight, 4cm length, straw-hollowed body, etc.), but I need to get my web-based affairs in order first.

I should try felt...

I should try felt...

I haven't tried foam craft sheet before. I use felt, because I have a ton of it at my place. It works great. Maybe it has a little less friction in the barrel than the foam?

Edit: Since I play mostly with kids much younger than me, I put a 4 mm foam cushion over the weight which greatly improves comfort. They hurt less than stock micros, so now we only play with stefans. I also experimented with rounding the foam tip to improve air flight, and I need to do some measurements.

Good idea with the padded end. I might have to do that cause I play against wusses. Even a stock RF20 hurt when they were barely in range. One is even 18 and he says it hurts. I'll have to make more darts.

As for felt, I can barely get felt tight enough around 1/2 inch backer rod in order to get it in 1/2 inch PVC. I was able to get it to fit in 3/4 inch PVC nicely though.

Shouldn't you only pump a 2k 4-5 times? I'd think the tank would explode after ten.

well, I'm pushing it, the airtank is already slightly deformed, I'm planning to re-enforce it with some copper and epoxy.

I'm still afraid of it :nugget: ... :P :) er, blowing up.

Hmmm. I must have much thinner felt. I got mine at a arts and crafts store called JoAnns Fabrics. It's just simple craft felt. I bought it in small sheets of ten cents each. Also, the colored felt helps to make it visible on the ground.

My felt is fabric. I hand sew it on. Thread holds better than glue. Even though it may be that I only have four made, the darts suck.
<EDIT>The "felt" is actually fleece. :P My bad. But still, having really powerful guns that shoot really heavy Stefans is sweet. Here's a pic of a can that had one shot from a supersoaker shooting a half ounce weighted half inch Stefan.
