My first attempt at making a HAMP.




No tape to disintegrate, no yarn to deal with, no fuss no muss.




Plunger assembly...assembled.


So the main construction is pretty standard. Personally i like the rscb placement, it's nice and comfy and the ball valve keeps the plunger from coming all the way out. However, after having my e-tape seal turn into a bunch of black goo and a SNAP that became yet another of my creative abortions, I wanted something that took the best of both worlds. Super simple HAMP construction/mechanics and the SNAP's great (and durable) rubber plunger seal were the goals I shot for.

So, all I ended up needing was a 3/4" plug, 2 O-rings, a 1.25" washer and a screw. I'm not entirely sure about the specific size of the O-rings but if you manage to talk your way into the Home Depot tool room like I did they have a little O-ring kit with the perfect size O-rings which i bought for 15 cents each.

Ranges were taken outside & I'm averaging 50ish feet with streamlines and ghetto neighbors looking at me like I'm a weirdo. Anyway; feedback, advice, opinions, musings or pretty much anything Capt. Slug has to say is welcome.

Cool! Designs that increase efficiency with less than linear increases in complexity is really what homemade building is about.

the body is 1.25" & the plunger is 1"....barrel length is an arbitrary cut at the moment but I going to be playing with different lengths to see what works best next.

Nice take on the design, I like how it looks. What exactly is the plunger rod made of? It looks solid...and the space that it has to fit the O-rings in is perfect. Also, do you have to point it down before every shot? That's the usual downfall of an RSCB system like that.

My experience with RSCBs in homemades is that you really don't need to point the blaster down after every shot if you ream out the barrel end and keep it relatively level. It works with my SNAP pistol...

At OP: I love the streamlined design. Is it uncomfortable when firing?

Also, do you have to point it down before every shot? That's the usual downfall of an RSCB system like that.

The beautiful thing about RSCB's on HAMPs, is that they will vaccume load most of the time.

How easy is that to hold? Does the ball valve get in the way at all?
Did you make the plunger rod from scrap? Or did you modify a solid rod?
I like what you have done here, I think I might need to build myself another HAMP.

@carbon: the plunger rod is 1" pvc. The body and plunger are the 2' cuts they sell at Home depot cut down a bit with a 3/4 " plug crammed in the plunger. I sanded the back of the barrel into a cone shape so i can pretty much give it a slight tilt down and the next dart is ready. If you do this the plug needs to be sanded a bit and then i hammered the crap out of it to get it into the pipe.

@ darksircam & cheyner: I find it comfy to hold, the handle is 1" pvc and fits my hand pretty much perfectly and the second tee section glued on is a pretty decent hand hold. Also, the ball valve isn't in the way at all. I think a shoulder stock may be in this thing's future as well as some way to store extra darts.

I'm guessing the plunger tube is 1.25" PVC (1.36" ID) based on the 1 1/4" washer used to retain the O-rings. Given that, 50' is pretty decent. But what in the world did you put e-tape on the inside of your first plunger for?

Maybe you should take that advice? Most cities have ordinances about, well, ordinance.

@ kane: Yeah it's 1.25" and i'm prerty sure I saw somewhere on the forums someone had used e-tape as a plunger seal but either way, when I started making this I had NO idea what I was doing as far as making nerf guns of any sort goes. Also I gotta give you props buddy since 2 of the HAMPS you posted inspired the whole handle-riding-along-the-rscb thing.

Guys I'm thrilled about your spud guns and their legal status in the town you live in, BUT, that's not what this thread is about. I'd rather not have talio or Capt. slug come in here and be like "This thread sucks and you're all idiots" and shut it down (and we all know how much they love to do it), at least not for my first thread. However, any useful / on topic feedback would be super duper awesome.

Okie dokie sorry 'bout that. On topic, I love the shape of this hamp. This design smooths out most of the things I didn't like in the first ones, which are the plunger head design and shape. It looks hella cool and hella comfortable. Props.
